  • This is a simple how to video that will show you the procedure for replacing the V belt (otherwise know as the CVT belt) on a Yamaha Majesty YP 400 YG this covers the years from 2005 through 2014. The model year I'll be working on is a 2009. If you haven't yet hit that like button, subscribe and share, it really helps me out and don't forget, "I'm just a MAN in a CAVE causing MAYHEM!" Oh, one more tip. Check that fan plate!! Some people use the tork wrench to put the main nuts on and it way over tightens the nuts! This causes stress cracks on the fan plate. It us NOT meant to be more than the the 40ftlb setting. These stress cracks can make the disk break apart when driving higher speed and it gets hot. Mine was riddled wirh tgise cracks and I had to replace it. It was so hard to get that nut off. Set waaaay to tight! Just an extra thing I found when rebuilding mine...thanks to your great video!!:) I thought I saw cracks on yours...u might want to recheck on both bikes...:) anything for safety!

I've only had one of my bikes worked on by someone other than me. It was a recall situation. Never even got a state inspection as required here in PA. I'm about to do this on my morphous and I'm sure I could have done this without this video, but doing something a second time always goes smoother. I feel like I've done it once by watching this. Possibly cut my time in half. 👍🏻 Great video, well done mancave!!!

Good job, I just moved a majesty 400 motor into my Morphous, its nearly a direct engine bolt on with a few things to move/modify, its so important to take care of the transmission,,,,Also if you put in Dr Pulley sliders, it not only will wake up your bike, but it will decrease crusing RPMs as well, if you notice the belt wear mark line on your variator, there is still a few more MMs for the belt to travel before it reaches the edge, the sliders will give you more travel, speed and top end, it essentially puts your bike in the power band once you find the right weight,,,, but really the majesty is a great fast scooter,,,TY for the video

Just check them both. Once you’ve torn into it that far it’s easy to look at both. Depending on what rollers you have you’ll see flat spots or the clutch will have signs of wear similar to brakes. Hope this helps👍🏻🇺🇸

Hey buddy! so i bought the 400 like yours, same year. It seems to have a LOT of vibration ,so at 10 thousand k would that mean a bad belt and variater rollers? I don't dare take it uo faster than 25 klm...it just feels very rough. I know it needs air filters but that should not create such vibration. Any tips for replacement stuff. I would install the 5 pad clutch as I hear the 3 pad obe is very rough vibration. Also what about the rollers? Sone say replace with higher grade 15grm, or the 18 grm origional, and others the italian grade( Molasi ?) ones...but I dont know weight. I am giving it new oil, spark etc. Most people ride until it fusses then and sell. Anyway, thanks so much! It's a challenge to learn to ride as you feet go much further out! But made it out on my first little ride and did not fall over. Yeah!:) Cheers!!

I’m still running the stock equipment I just changed the belt after 14,000 miles the engine does run a little rough which is typical for a single cylinder, but the rollers and variator were all good when I checked them. Only way to really tell if they’re bad is to tear into it and check everything if you have flat spots on the rollers then you know they’re bad but if you don’t they’re probably still good.

Hey ManCave, I have a Yamaha Morphous 250, I noticed that it has the same covers underneath like yours. Well, I was running mine seemed like transmission wasn't "shifting" and then heard a snap. Could it have been the belt that snapped? Is that common? Mine has 18k miles. Just traded it and don't know previous history.

    • @ManCaveMayhem

Same thing just happened to me at the same mileage on my morphous on the highway. Pretty uneventful, just a snap, motor responding to throttle but no excelleration. My immediate thought was drive belt. Not that I'm a genius mechanic or anything but watching the belt drive warning flash for a few thousand miles was my first (and last) clue.

not a bad video. I was very impressed that you actually didn't use the impact to tighten the variator or clutch bolts back up. a lot of bad mechanics do this because there lazy and you can damage the threads on the crankshaft. it happened to me lol. not very fun and now I don't trust mechanics lol. i would add that you should of mentioned checking the variator surfaces for wear and the importance of it for example if the variator is worn and there's flat spots on the edges it can affect acceleration and also lower the bikes top speed.

Ok. I have 2 tips about the aluminum cover. When you remove the small screw, Remove the CENTER NUTS! It takes the pressure off the seals. Also there are release slots along the cover to try and gently pry it loose. They are in-between the small nuts in a few spots. You won't need the mallet. I got thexremival info from a mechanic in Europe. The cover just about falls off when you remove those nuts! Like who knew?? :) hope this helps for future fixes. Cheers buddy.
