    The 3 on the neck is not the date. It’s the model designation
    2 Strat
    3 Tele
    4 Jazzmaster
    B means standard 1 5/8” nut width

    I bought a 1973 Telecaster in 1973 after I got out of the Army. Beautiful guitar, long gone.

    One of the best of your restring videos. This tele is all kinds of genuine old-school cool. Earned its relic rather than buying its relic!

      I hate guitars that are reliced, to me they are just as fake as Chibsons! I have particular dislike for guitars that have a poly finish and that have a relic job on the body and then the neck is brand new.

    also 1971 was the year they switched form 4 to 3, along wit the micro tilt, prolly an overlap model, used up all the parts from the 4 bolt

      A regular Tele didn't have the three bolt necks. Thinline and Custom Teles did though.

    The letters on end of neck denote nut width..

    I love how the guitar's got so much vibe with all those little nicks and dings

    if it were a reissue say of a 50's the telecaster decal would be under the fender decal, forget what year they began putting it after, 67 was it? but it's just a regular tele from the date on the heel . . . I like it

    The break is sometimes at the solder junction(s) at the pickup. Reheat and fixed.

    Nice job, I like the noise cancelling middle position so it's a good idea to check the polarity of the new pickup.

    On single coil pickups
    twist the wires together' full length of the wires' cuts down on noise' like shielding.

    If it was recrowned before those divots got so bad there would have been lots of meat on those frets.
    Once you get small divots they quickly turn into large divots as the strings seat in them and cut deeper and then your fets are ruined, a recrown of the frets once you notice the divots will save you money in the long run, especially with vintage instruments, and you will get much more pleasure from your instrument!

    i dont like teles but with that said, id have the pickup rewound and put back in the guitar. putting a mexican strat pickup in it is not the way to go long tern to maintain the value of this guitar. the ferrels need to be correct as well for same reason. of course the frets need replacing but that acceptible in a restore or even expected to be honest its 50 years old. the neck plate serial number should tell the the date story for sure. if it doesnt match the neck date then its a put together guitar.

    Aww man you should just fix that original neck pickup! It's a snap to do. Those late 60s/early 70s tele pickups cook!! Great vids though brother. I wasn't trying to be a dick to you.

    Neck pickup is saturating as it's too close. Fret string at last fret and should be around 1/8" gap between string and pickup cover. On this vintage, needs to be adjusted before pickguard is refitted.

    I hate adjusting those truss rods. I’m thankful we evolved away from that mess.

    5:48 probably Asian-made because of the "PTP..."-sticker. They look like Mexican pickups but they have less windings and stronger magnets instead. It might sound really good though.

    looked like 3 oct 72 u never really said ,, i love my 78 tele but if indeed it was oct 72 that would go nicely with my 0ct 62 strat ,,

    wow that style Design haven't really changed all that much in over 50 years...but yeah , it looks in bad shape,, those worn out frets look bad that makes it hard to kinda play.. maybe if I were on a budget I would only change out the ones that need replaced..

  • @whommee

    looks and sounds like she is from smack dab in the middle of the early 70s!.. Good video and great job you done on that Tele. Don't fret what those so called purist say about replacing that pickup,, 70s tele pickups didn't sound good anyway !

  • @vayabroder729
    @vayabroder729 6 місяців тому

    Fender pickups from that era weren’t that hot; maybe better idea to put some premium pickups there like Duncans, Fralins, Lollar, etc and put the originals in the case.
    Regular Telecasters never came with the three bolt tilt necks; they were always 4 bolts.

  • @TeleCaster66

    Is that a legit Telecaster neck pickup for a vintage instrument? Not constructed like a telecaster pickup.

    • @caseylm100
      @caseylm100 6 місяців тому

      It’s a fender tele pickup. They all pretty much look the same on the outside and fit. A MIM tele pickup sounds decent, maybe a tad brighter and louder than a vintage one
