I find Anna's black dress very telling and foreboding. She's the only one wearing a black dress (like in the book), and it is very simbolic of her tragic relationship with Vronsky.
I love how the camera movement, the very conscious placement of the dancers around them and the music makes you literally feel Kitty‘s despair and the impending tragedy. This is a masterpiece.
agree.... Alicia is brilliant...... the best Kitty ever..... only in this movie I love Kitty more than Anna..... (I rate 9 from 1-10 for the dancing scene and Kitty..... but for the whole movie....I'd prefer RAI TV miniseries....... There are the best Anna, Vronsky, and Karenin.... yet no other goodlooking Levin and Karenin like that Italian version....)
Alicia Vinkander look at the end is haunting...despair, anger, helplessness, hate and rage, betrayal. And that last step is done with such a hurt pride. Bravo ^^
The clip cuts off JUST before this moment but the light which you can see in the mirror is the headlight of a train, marking the start of another theatre-esq. transition between scenes. The train appears to drive right up behind her - a sneaky bit of foreshadowing to the ending! 😊 I adore Tolstoy’s novel but actually really enjoyed this film: to adapt the book is nearly impossible given how complex it is, but it was a very satisfactory attempt. Much more accurate to the original than I expected it to be! Kiera Knightley was impeccable. 👍🏻👍🏻
I always felt that a series needs to be made on Anna Karenina so that every part of the book can be presented because seriously you can't leave anything out .
I love this scene and the whole movie. The movie itself is an act of seduction, not unlike what Vronsky did to Anna.... promised her a life of beauty and passion instead of the dull monotony of her life with Karenin. The mezmerizing colors, movement and unspoken emotions are just breathtaking.
I love this dance scene... probably one of my favorite of all in movies. However, I'm a a little sad that they did the same pattern than in Pride and Prejudice (the "feeling like they're alone in the room" effect). It broke a little of the magic for me...
The symbolism of Kiera’s black dress and Alicia’s white dress could be taken lots of ways. I think it’s interesting though how black and white balances each other out but two whites don’t work...
agree.... this version of AK is not my fave.... but the dancing scene and Kitty are THE BEST ..... Kitty.... I mean Alicia robbed my heart..... she is the best Princess Kitty Schebartskaya.......
So romantic, powerful, and intense. You could see them breathing each other in; consuming each other with their eyes. Savoring each other’s touch and touching. 🔥
This scene is so intense, revealing, erotic and full of chemistry between two human beens. Anna and Vronsky emotions are about to overflow with passion, but Anna doesn’t yet want to be aware of what is about to happen. "So this is love." as she would later say.
This novel by Tolstoi is so deep in many levels that it is a shame having being adapted by HOllywood so many times. The only way to value it IS BY READING. It is not just a love story.
While that's true, I wouldn't say that Hollywood's necessarily done a bad job of adapting this novel into movies (personally, I'm more offended at how often Wuthering Heights gets adapted into such failures of films). I'm fond of the Greta Garbo and Vivien Leigh adaptations, but as far as capturing the negative psychological impact the affair has on Anna, the 2001 adaptation did a splendid job of capturing her downward spiral into depression and madness. I don't dislike the 2012 version, but I definitely like it more for the cinematography, costumes, and music than the (lack of) faithfulness to the spirit and point of the book.
indiciaobscure this article has been running through my mind for the last two days, it talks about how AK is definitely way more than a love story www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/the-moral-urgency-of-anna-karenina/
Not sure that Leo Tolstoy would agree with the dance and the movie at all. There is no any spirit of Russian aristocracy of XIX century in it. Probably, the reason is in not quite correct translation of the novel.
But the Russian aristocracy were Obsessed with all things French. The style of hair, and of the dresses are very similar to those worn in Russian by the aristocracy of the late 19th century. Also the music and dance are variations of popular music and Waltzing from that time. Obviously there are many deviations but overall it’s very harsh of you to sag that there in no spirit of the Russian aristocracy of the 19th. I think they’ve captured something of their grace, their style, their arrogance, their avarice, their humour and their weaknesses.
It's part of the traditional polish dance... It's meant to be a lot because it's supposed to symbolize connection. I personally think they're beautiful
I´m classical dancer and I find the hand´s movements beautiful. The coreography is so original, the movie itself explores a new way to make cinema, so the dance do is as well.
Aaron Taylor Johnson is ravishingly charming and moves elegantly. Sadly, Keyra Knightly is utterly unsuitable for the role, a rake would look prettier and more attractive.
I like how Kitty's partner is changing constantly and Anna and Alexey stay together
It shows how long they danced together which is quite scandalous for the time considering she was married to another man
I find Anna's black dress very telling and foreboding. She's the only one wearing a black dress (like in the book), and it is very simbolic of her tragic relationship with Vronsky.
One of the most beautifully done dance scenes in film.
agree
Before cinderella
You must have seen very few dance scenes!
Mehh
I agree
How Alicia can act upset and hurt while still remembering all the steps to this complicated af dance is beyond me.
She trained to be a dancer for quite a long time, that might help, she still has the ballerina body if you look closely.
Lmfao! Yess!! But I mean she was a dancer so that explains it.
i think she is a dancer? went to ballet school
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol😆
I love how the camera movement, the very conscious placement of the dancers around them and the music makes you literally feel Kitty‘s despair and the impending tragedy. This is a masterpiece.
The swoosh if the dresses, stop and start. So masterfully done! Each swoosh and swoon so good!😳😳😍😍😍
He s only seen her once before but the chemistry was off the charts. So she knew who was asking to dance without even turning. She expected it.
even if it's very unlike the book, this movie was so beautiful it would be a lie to say it was awful
Veela the second waltzre
Veela
It was so lush!!!!!
It's not to to different from the book. A few changes but not anything major.
While I'm not super into this adaptation, it managed to perfectly capture this scene from the book. It's so breathtaking and so intense.
Alicia's so good in this and you could really see that she is a ballet dancer due to her grace and even just her posture (epaulement).
2:57 the small taint of blood on her lips signifying how she bit herself to hold back the tears was a nice touch

Funny how people either adore or hate this dancing scene. in either way it means that it touches everybody' s deep heart chords.
E Lisa love it!!! It’s a mirroring of their chemistry and frustration
Alicia Vinkander look at the end is haunting...despair, anger, helplessness, hate and rage, betrayal. And that last step is done with such a hurt pride. Bravo ^^
Idk where to begin with the beauty of this. The costumes, the set, the choreography, the music, the swift camera changes
love this sound track, one of the most mesmerizing waltz
Same this soundtrack is one of the best

I had a hard time breathing as the scene went on. I can feel the fucking tension rising, it felt like it was going to explode at some point.
I absolutely love the choreography!

Okay, seriously, every dance scene Keira Knightly gets in a film is absolutely a masterpiece. ✨👌🏻
This movie was a delight to the eyes . So artistic way of falling from grace
I love their chemistry and especially the game of eyes that can be seen in several scenes
I always felt that a series needs to be made on Anna Karenina so that every part of the book can be presented because seriously you can't leave anything out .
One of the most beautiful dances I have ever seen in a movie
Still amazed by this scene. Wow.
That choreography is gorgeous, love this dance scene!
That is one of the very best dance scenes in a movie!!

Could be expceted though since both Joe Wright and Keira Knightley are involved in this project
Hamdi Ali hassan and matthew macfadyen.
Marie-Jeanne Dubreuil actually I think this scene is well done because that's exactly how it was described in the book
That’s the most eerie waltz I’ve ever heard.
The symbolism of Kiera’s black dress and Alicia’s white dress could be taken lots of ways. I think it’s interesting though how black and white balances each other out but two whites don’t work...
It’s actually not a black dress but a very dark blue
DAT DRAMA, YO.
Alicia steals the show in this! she can dance AND act!
agreed, she was so elegant
agree.... this version of AK is not my fave.... but the dancing scene and Kitty are THE BEST ..... Kitty.... I mean Alicia robbed my heart..... she is the best Princess Kitty Schebartskaya.......
Finally got to watch this movie tonight and I’m so in love with it. Especially this scene and how intense it was
I would like to have the step by step of the choreography 😭
If someday I get married, this would be my waltz
I love the chemistry
I literally feel the same way and want it for my wedding dance as well.
This movie was beautiful I’m not sure it was just me but every movement Anna, Vronskei and Alexei felt like a dance
Beautiful music 🙂🌺🎵
So romantic, powerful, and intense. You could see them breathing each other in; consuming each other with their eyes. Savoring each other’s touch and touching. 🔥
So elegant, so graceful and classy!!!
Love this scene
This scene gives me goosebumps every time
Wow!!! This is so beautiful
What a scene!!!
the dance seems too hard to practice and to memorize
wow...Dancing charmer...with beautiful Eyes!!!!
I hate seeing Kitty getting screwed over but I love the chemistry between Vronsky and Karenina.
This scene is so intense, revealing, erotic and full of chemistry between two human beens.
Anna and Vronsky emotions are about to overflow with passion, but Anna doesn’t yet want to be aware of what is about to happen.
"So this is love." as she would later say.
Love the costumes...esp the Chanel Haute Joallerie and that feathered hair bit...even if it's dyed victorian crown pigeon feathers!
A joy to watch
Ok but why don't we have balls like this anymore? I wanna do this choreography with somebody

It's not a love story at all! I think of it more as a seduction/madness story. Unless you include the Kitty/Levin parts.

im sad coz ill never dance with a partner, wearing a beautiful dress, in an historical elegant setting
Perfect
Lovely
OMG I forgot Alicia was in this.
This is where I first noticed her and was mesmerized.
@@elizabethmcleod246 I agree..... She stole my heart in this movie.... then she become my favorite actress.....
No comparable to the scene with Sophie Marceau's version. 1997's version is much more glamorous ❤❤❤
What is the name of the dance with the hand gestures Vronsky and Anna do?

What is the name of this vals ?
What kind of dance is that?

"I m en to so vo bo station"
Somebody should to learn talking to English people
Why must all the Hollywood European adaptations have a British accent?
its better than doing fake russian accent the whole movie and british english sounds more magnificent and royal
Нет, нет и нет. Ни капли русского нет ни в героях, ни в сценах.
Kitty is so annoying.
These handmovements are just annoying and irritating!
No
+HeartXXBlack I think that's the point.

This remake was a disaster.....
JML It wasn't a remake but an adaptation.
it was? That's not what credible critics said. bye.
Pretentious cinematography.
The hand movement is totally disgusting.
Not as disgusting as twerking and the dancing done nowadays
Joanna An I would go to the ends of the earth to find the choreographer to teach me the hand movements
People are at different spiritual levels, therefore, see things differently.

Exactly, Valerie Vallonie! I would like to learn it sooo much!!!
What a waste of money … total crap

True to every word
Most complicated dance in history. How did they remeber it all?!?!😫
