I enjoyed listening to you because the depth with which you have covered Arthasastra. It is rather amazing that Kautilya did such an in-depth theoretical analysis of the political economy. We Indians are proud of Kautilya. The whole world has much to learn from him. Hope we all will avoid open war and solve problems through diplomacy. Let us all believe in peaceful coexistence instead of increasing one's power through destruction, killings and spoiling earth's atmosphere.Unfortulately all politicians are power hungry!!
Gandhi was inspired by the Bhagavad Gita which contains the direct word of God. It was this that defeated the British without firing a single shot. Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna's teaching also went on to found Buddhism. When the Mongolians came to India, they were converted to Buddhism and sent away peacefully, without bloodshed. No, India should not adopt the Arthashastra. The world should adopt Sanatana Dharma. Aum shanti shanti.

Aptly noted at the end, ''maps are not permanent.' If statecraft (and its subset warmaking) were to be compared to the running of rapids in rafts or canoes, then the Arthashastra of Chanakya Kautilya is something like a handbook for rivermen. The water is constantly changed, and the character of a river, though cyclically similar to its prior conditions, is infinitely variable in its speed, depth and the changing likelihood that it will carry one's craft over a rock, onto a rock or into a stultifying edy. The riverman/statesman must attempt the passage with either an inherently buoyant, flexible but hardly steerable raft or with a faster, more dirigible, but also more fragile canoe: Sometimes there is a choice of craft, other times there is no option.

I consider one of the great contribution that I have made to the humanity (archaeology in particular) is my discovery of the Asokian Four Directed Lions symbol may be referring to the original home of the Moryan kings as Chandra Gupta (Ashoka's grand father and founder of the Moryan empire) is from a place called Tak-Ka-Shi-La (which in Tibetan language means "Four Directed Lion's Pass") in present day Afganistan-Pakistan Border area.......... so I discovered that Ashoka could be of Tibetan ethnicity...... It would be hard to believe that Chadra Gupta came from a place called, in Tibetan sounds like, four directed lions pass ("Tak kah si la") and his grandson choosing four directed lions as his signature (or amblem) could be coincidental....... I think Ashoka chose the four directed lions as his emblem to indicate the name of his lineage's original home land (since its in Tibetan, he must know Tibetan to interpret it correctly....)
interesting lecture, very well presented, but sadly the selection of font colours in the slides, is very bad. there used to be a red book for editors back in the day when there used to be books. slide craft could benefit from knowledge of book craft.

Dr Goodson made a few geographical faux pas in his lecture. To a good military strategist, sound knowledge of geography is as critical as warcraft or diplomacy. A wrongly quoted grid reference will certainly change the course of battle, if not war. Also, correct way of pronouncing the original word is too, important, for, in some ancient languages like Sanskrit, wrongly pronounced word would certainly change the meaning and context too. You don't need this during war, I guess.
