You unplug the washing machine to a) prevent fire (cable fires of unattended household appliances is a thing and houses have burned down before because people ran their appliances while not being home - NEVER leave with them on! A family friend is in the voluntary fire brigade, the stories you hear...) and b) to save electricity (some household appliances have no real on/off switch and will use a tiny amount of electricity in standby).

@@saratemp790 I'm a German and can confirm, Phil speaks High German / Hochdeutsch. I'm not a language expert, but guessing from his voice, I'd put him into the "West Central German" dialect area (yellow part of the map), which is where I'm from. In this part of Germany, we speak a clear and standardized version of German very similar to what you're being taught when you're learning German from classes and textbooks. Understanding is the most important part! =)
@@DeanaandPhil Yeah actually I understand Phil a lot better than many Germans. He seems to have the same accent my father did. What kind of accent does he have?
@@saratemp790 I am from Germany and Phil talks really "Hochdeutsch" ( sorry I don't know the English word) i am from the south west of Germany and then they talk Swabian, for non- German and German who talks Hochdeutsch it is really hard to understand Swabian sometimes it's hard for me to and I live here😅😅 but in my opinion all German dialect really hard to understand if you're somebody who talks Plattdeutsch you think it is in other language the first time I have heard i thought it was another language😅😅😅
@@saratemp790 he speaks as we call it "hochdeutsch" without any dialect.
This is probably why people say they can understand Phil so well. You would, most likely, have the same experience with anybody from this area.

My dad was stationed in Germany (US Army) when the wall came down and has a piece of it, plus I was born there:)

ask her to read "Prometheus" by Goethe - its my favourite poem! ;)
Ive moved from england to germany. Its been a year now and im currently learning germany. I need B2 for mr uni. Loving these vids!
i got the slight feeling you will regret that commanding...
and it's "Waschküche" actually
the music video snippet was hilarious :)
