    I knew I could count on you having a video on these. I bought the 25X today at an auction for 185 bucks. When I opened it and saw the bucket inside it threw me for a loop, but not anymore. Thanks for providing so many meaningful videos.

      No problem! You can even remove the bucket completely. I haven’t used it in a while and have no problems.

      @@SporenSprout Really? So you just load the bags onto the rack instead of using that bucket?
      The bucket takes up more space inside than one would think. Not using that bucket would definitely help. Where do you place that pressure release tube when not using the bucket?

      @@RipperUA-camOfficial Yes I can fit like 9 bags of substrate in there without the bucket. There is a gap between the substrate bags you can feed the cord down. Works great.

    Have you noticed any issues only using 1 gallon of water? My manual says to fill up to the machined line, which requires 2 gallons. I would imagine this is so the entire heating element remains submerged. Filling with 1 gallon would leave the top section of the heating element out of the water, so I just wasn't sure if that would be an issue. Using 1 gallon would certainly be more convenient and energy efficient! It takes sooooooo long to get up to pressure using 2 gallons. Plus I have to distill 2 gallons of water to use it, so that energy cost would be cut in half as well. Thanks for the video!

      I don’t fill to the machined line, I fill until right above the element and that works best for me everytime and the water is still slightly above the element after the sterilization cycle.

      @@SporenSprout Awesome, thank you for the reply! And you haven't noticed any extra corrosion or degradation of the heating element on the non-submerged section? I don't know how to phrase it, but like the section of the heating element that comes out of the water and connects to the wall of the unit, not the submerged ring.

      @@trynadyna9662 No problem! I boil the distilled water on the stove and then transfer it to the sterilizer to cut down on the time it takes to get going also. Good luck!

    Can you use the sterilizer without the insert to stack more grain bags since there is a rack above the heating element?

      I just use distilled water and sometimes I add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the water when sterilizing a batch.

      @@SporenSprout I mean the outside man. Mine spits out water when I release the valve and it dirties the lid quicjly

      @@SaltyJuan ohhh I know what you mean. That doesn’t happen to me because I put the rope on an angle leaning on the jars or bags. If the rope reaches the water below it does that.

    Nice. I have been waiting for it to steam, hold 5 min, then letting pressure build to 10 PSI, vent to 0, then build to 15 and run 2 hours @ 15 psi

    The pressure reached only 12 PSI, and turning off automatically once it reached 12 psi. It would restart once the pressure dropped to 10 PSI, but I was unable to reach the desired 15 PSI for proper sterilization. Any suggestions?

      Yes it plugs into a regular household outlet with 3 prongs.

    I noticed you didn’t open the control valve a second time to vent for additional 3-5min. Was that intentional? My first time using this device and was wondering if that’s necessary. Thx

      I do not vent at 15 psi because I have had no problems not doing so. If you do that while making agar or liquid culture it will spill inside the pressure cooker anyways. I just make sure steam is coming out of the vent before building pressure initially.

    Is the electric model worth the extra cost? I see the stovetop model is way cheaper. What are the advantages of the electric model?

      Yes, I would say so. The main advantage is not having to use a stove and being able to set a timer and walk away from the machine until the cycle is finished.

      @@SporenSprout I've heard that the temperature is more variable when using stovetop models and thus you have to keep an eye on it. Is this what you're referring to? Is it really a big deal if the temperature isn't as stable? Isn't the important thing just that your temperature is above a certain level (120-130°C)? I'll probably shell out the extra money and go electric, but I'm still curious about this.

      @@Invisible_Difference Not really, the stove top version you will never be able to just walk away simply because you can’t just plug your stove into a timer and have it shut off when it’s done automatically. The electric model has a built in thermostat and keeps it within 15 psi range.

    I always have a lot of water coming out of the pressure valve when it's steaming. It runs down the side of the PC and onto the control board. It really stresses me out. Any suggestions?

      Redirect the hose so that it is not directly above the water. Remove the inner bucket entirely. Use a tad bit less water.

    My psi fluctuates from 15PSI to 22PSI. Is there a way to tighten this variation ? Id rather it be closer to yours of 15 psi to 17-18 psi.

      @@danielgibbs7081 Yeah there’s a small bolt under the control module that you have to use a small wrench to turn and it changes the calibration.

      The calibration just sets the knob to 15 PSI if I understand it correctly. My problem is once I have it set to 15 PSI, once the pilot light comes on it goes all the way up to 22 PSI before it shuts off again.

      @@danielgibbs7081 Can’t you just set it to like 12 psi then? I’m not sure how that can even happen. If it’s set at 15 psi it would fluctuate from 15-12psi. Are you sure you have the same sterilizer as the one in this video?

    Another thing I wanted to point out, is this really 41qts? Seems like it’s 41 qts without the inner container. But with the inner container it makes it not really 41qts but rather 23 qts. Just seems like the inner container is the same size as my 23qt presto.

      Yeah the inner container does cut down on available space. I don’t really use the inner container anymore. Without the inner container It can fit 9 5Lb substrates, 12 3Lb grain bags, or 9 quart jars.

    When yours hits 17 PSI, you turn it off? When i turn mine down to 1, it loses pressure pretty quick.....

      mine has to be put on 6 for it to stay at 15 PSI

      I guess every machine can be calibrated differently so it’s not the same in every situation. Keeping it at 6 seems like the most common way to stay at 15 psi. Just have to find the sweet spot for your machine and go with that.

    How the hell do u plug it in my plug doesn’t fit standard outlet yes I’m in the USA, no one mentions this anywhere and I can’t find an adapter

      You bought the wrong unit then. You will have to have an electrician install a 240 volt outlet probably. You can also look into returning it for the correct unit as well.

    My unit doesn’t shut off automatically no matter what I do, could I have a faulty thermostat?

      You need to calibrate it. You have to unscrew the bottom plate and stick a tiny wrentch in there to hold the nut and turn the dial while holding the nut while the unit is at 15 psi.

      I do it that way and It is the way suggested buy American.
      It really doesn't add much time to the proscess .

      You want to rid all the air out before it reaches 15 (removing all air pockets and displacing with steam). If you burp there will be a very quick pressure change which could damage bags, filters, crack glass or overflow lC’s etc. the manual says it’s safe to but they are referring to items not affected by drastic pressure changes like used in sterilizing tattoo equipment, dental tools etc.

    Can you use this on a laminated countertop with the optional base or is it recommended to be on a metal table?

      It gets to 250-255°F so if that temp will warp or damage the resin on your counter then yeah it's not a good idea. Plus laminated = plastic or resin so that would just be off gassing every time you use it, right into the closed room .
      I'd just put it on the stove element if you have enough space

      These units have an inner basket which also regulates heat.. Presto is just putting inside a pot

    hi, the pressure of mine didn't reached 17psi even though it had been run for more than 2 hours, if there any suggestions for me to overcome this problem. i had tried many times to do my sterilization

      Does the guage read ìn PSI or something else? Some gages don't read in PSI but if you look up the equivalent, it will tell you what PSI it is actually reading. If it is an actual pressure cooker with a wobble weight on top, it will only got to 15PSI before it wobbles and releases the pressure, keeping it at 15psi.

      It’s a little over the top for canning purposes but yes you can use it for canning.

      You can try the bonsai filtration one. It is cheaper , but also taller, so you can do more jars.

      @@SporenSprout well everytime I try I get reduced volume of substrate like a 30% reduction in volume to the point where the need dont even hit the dry vermiculite layer I'm using albumin foil for the lids, microphone tape lids are shut tight, I run it 15 psi/20 ps for 90 minutes, first time it reduced dramatically and water got in without microphone tape i applied micro pore tape second time and less reduction no visible water entered in fact seems a bit dry anything i can do I'm about to try just using it as a boiler like i used to with a presto and had very few contams
