Personal dislike aside, it's odd that he never acknowledges Mani's massive innovations and contributions to Indian commercial cinema. Some anxiety of influence there surely? As for RRR being a circus, the same can be said of all superhero films and most action films. We need to dig deeper into where cinema and circus diverge. Is the point that when cinema borrows circus-like elements, it becomes less cinematic? By the same token, if cinema borrows from dance or music, both forms of art and entertainment that, like the circus, pre-existed cinema, does it become less cinematic?
He requested Maniratnam to write the dialogues for Shiva film while dubbing in Tamil which he refused saying "Any one with common sense can write these dialogues" and it irked him all these years. This was confirmed by him and also Suresh chakkravarthy (who wrote the dialogues). Wondering how come he concluded Maniratnam will write dialogues for a dubbing movie.

Can't agree more on RRR. The movie might have worked with masses, but movie has a weak plot, so many loose strings in the storyline, over dramatized sequences. Movie is technically very sound, sets are grand, and gives a good visual experience. That's the only bright part. P.S. : For those who want to troll me for watching Bollywood, I like good cinema and a fan of good telugu movies like C/O Kancharapalem.
You may think RRR is just a marketing gimmick and Kancherapalem a movie wonder. Your opinion changes with time. Trust me. It happens to everyone. Don't assume my views are opposite to yours. Just that your idea of good and bad will keep changing.
RRR isn't a plot driven film in the first place .... It's a character driven film and symbolism driven film.... Watch it again wearing different lens, you will appreciate a ton of things about the movie you missed when you watched it the first time....

You can create wow moments using technology, but without a solid plot it is a dud. RRR has a bad story, lacks coherence, and not knitted well on multiple occasions. I have expectations from Rajamouli and has loved his work like Eega. But, RRR doesn't work for me, might be for them who love VFX. Good for them :)

Rajini basically imitated Mahendran in Mullu Malaram and did good.. but his limitations were not exposed fully as he didnt continue to "act" in multiples roles... he had template reactions for many things... like he would bite his nail like a girl everytime he feels shy... he would keep his two fingers between eye brow meet and sleep to convey his sorrowness...

I think you misunderstood his response. That was more a rhetorical statement. He meant that he is such a big start that if he acts ( not acting) then the equation would go wrong..
Rajini basically imitated Mahendran in Mullu Malaram and did good.. but his limitations were not exposed fully as he didnt continue to "act" in multiples roles... he had template reactions for many things... like he would bite his nail like a girl everytime he feels shy... he would keep his two fingers between eye brow meet and sleep to convey his sorrowness...
