I used to play the bubble paste when I was a kid. I would wrap the paste straight around the end of the straw then blow it until it's big and almost translucent, you can't stop blowing until it's almost stretched out. If it's too stretched out, you won't be able to close the bubble properly. I have never seen a magnificent bubble that big before

Magnificent Bubbles has been sold for decades in the US under the name "Bloonies" but usually in tinier tubes with straws that are the size of a lollipop stick. You can get them for $1 at most dollar stores. They smell like chemicals and are a right of passage for kids in the US. 😂 Because of the smaller straws though, you rarely get a successful bubble though.

40 years ago when I was at college training to be an Occupational Therapist, as part of the course we learned woodworking for 2 years. One of our projects was to make a Jacob's Ladder. It is a very ancient toy. The first documented description of a Jacob's Ladder dates to the 1880s in a journal called Scientific American. It was quite amusing to me to see your surprise and entertainment with it Jackie :). I've been watching your videos for quite a few years now. Thanks for all the work you do!

I have glorious childhood memories of the touchabubbles--especially because my house has an indoor second-story window to the kitchen, and that gives the bubbles plenty of time to become touchable. We stacked them on our fingers, etc. Turning on the ceiling fan is a mistake, lol. The bubble "ghosts" will last indefinitely!
It's very funny to me that you thought the Jacob's Ladder was unique and creative because that's an antique toy--google says from the 1800s. I mean, I suppose it was unique and creative over 200 years ago =)

*Edit: Super ELASTIC Bubble Plastic... and looking at the vintage ads, it is the exact same thing. Maybe we had difficulty because we tried to "re-blow" the bubbles... it was a loooong time ago, so forgive my fuzzy memory. 😂
    The second bubble toy...
Reminds me of a product from the 70s called, "Super Fantastic Bubble Plastic".
But the goop/plastic was thicker, and you would nearly pass out trying to blow it up into a ball. BUT they advertised that you could play with the ball - kinda like you would with a beach ball.
That product died kinda quickly, so I don't even know if any vintage ads remain, but I might look it up later.
    😁👍

When I was a kid in the 80s we had Super Elastic Bubble Plastic which is like those magnificent bubble things with the tube. However back then they were made with materials that created noxious fumes and could be dangerous when inhaled through the straw. I remember they stank SO MUCH. I stayed! Just like the bubbles did for over an hour :) -- PS I remember being a kid at the local bookstore and they had a Jacob's ladder and I always wanted one! I am pretty sure my pap who was a wood worker made me one :)

I used to play with the magnificent bubbles as a kid. They weren't called magnificent bubbles at least I don't think, but I used to chew on the bubble solution.

I used to beg my parents all the time to get those balloons ( 9:45 )
    whenever we went to London.
Those days don't really happen anymore but it was still really fun, a good little souvenir.

Unrelated to the topic, but as a recent Ancient Magus' Bride fan, seeing that little Elias in the back makes me very happy!

Ah, the 'latex' bubbles that you can catch. I bought some for a 4th of July thing at my job for moral (we didn't realize they were those kind). One person was blowing them all over the office. We had the flattened bubbles stuck to the carpet for months afterwards.

I have texture issues, don't like those stretchy bubbles or the sands.
The ladder however, I've made them with paper, coins (to give the paper weight) and ribbon. I love them. Had one as a child, my first fidget toy.

I bought those plastic bubbles thing in hamleys years ago, and im so impressed how well the pigment is showing on the newer ones. mines were almost transparent with a little bit of color hue to them but that may just be the camera exposure playing here lolol.
i was in london for a student exchange and let me tell you they were the highlight of our group's evening :D
