Good to hear that he's still doing stuff relatively heavy :)

Ben anonnimous The beginning perhaps. Its noise metal for sure, but the times arent as crazy and its overall more cohesive. I like it much better than a lot of dilingers newer stuff. Jamie is an excellent musician IMO. Granted, he isn't doing anything new here, but it sounds a lot better than a lot of the drab shit coming out today. Dillinger's newer albums seem to be half made of poor attempts to get a song on the radio, and half made of noise for the sake of noise. Im not saying they should trot right down the middle, but some consistency would be nice. You can make a noise metal album that isnt noise all the way through without sounding like you are pandering to the radio public. Instrumentals are a great interlude (no Atreyu pun intended, though that is an excellent example of breaking up a metal album) that most musicians seem to have given up on. Part of the reason I loved Spitfire's most recent album (Brain Debris is a fav, right next to Arrhythmia Drift and Track Marxist) was the pacing they were able to create without soft/barely-hard rock thrown in.

Oh, I felt like "one of us is the killer" was one of the best albums of 2014. I like the versatility in the writing, and it doesn't feel drab to me. I respect your opinion though, you sound like you know how to formulate an express an honest opinion about this music without being a stuck up elitist, which most people who listen to this music (including myself) struggle with.

All of metal is a "to each his own"-type genre, but not many of us see it that way, so i can respect that you appreciate when someone is trying to voice their opinion without shitting on everyone else's. That being said, I can say that I did like a handful of songs from OUITK. Prancer is pretty good, and the title track wasn't "bad" per se, it just didnt feel like it was made for the sake of music, but rather for the sake of sales (which I actually hold nothing against them for, especially since they are twice as artistic as most bands but get half the sales). That, of course, is another personal opinion. On the whole, for every song i liked, there were one or two i didn,t and im the kind of critic that doesnt judge an album by its highest peak but instead by its lowest valley. That being said, Im still a big fan of theirs and eagerly await their album releases and buy them up before I ever listen to them out of blind faith. I think that on the whole, they DO make music for the music, unlike many other bands, and i can appreciate that.

I have a feeling if they made music like that to get more fans and success it would not work. I think they would just lose fans that way. It would be smart, if they were looking to make money, to pander to your fans instead of seek out a new fanbase.

In theory, but plenty of artists fall victim to the idea of "going mainstream". You are absolutely right though. Its a shame but a lot of bands have already turned me from a dedicated fan to a guy who used to listen to them. Norma Jean is a prime example. Up to Redeemer i was addicted. Anything AntiMother and beyond i outright avoid, on principle. While DEP have put out songs that felt pander-y to me, theyve never put out an album that lacked outright heavy songs, so i still respect them... and i mean honestly, how can you not like the band that made songs like 43% Burnt, The Perfect Design, Fix Your Face, Lurch, Milk Lizard, and Prancer?
