    We've all played against a guy like that: he's as stiff as a stick of licorice, his game has no aesthetic appeal, he has improbable racquet grips, you never know where the ball's going to go, he doesn't seem to control anything so you can't anticipate anything, he makes illegal serves, he plays without soul and seems absent, he pushes, pushes, pushes then suddenly he hits the ball like a brute without really knowing what's going to happen. In short, hell on earth.

      i have a player like that at the abandoned building i play at here in austria. racket he bought 20 years ago in spain and even then it was trash and not up to ittf standard and by now its wobbly and dented. big belly, doesnt speak a word of english or german, doesnt speak to anyone, but comes to play every single day.
      the racket takes no spin and is crazy slow so he can just block every ball centimeters behind the net and everything slightly high he smashes.

    Table tennis outdoor is a totally different sport. I train 3 times a week indoor and usually play every weekend in spring / summer in the park. Outdoors spin doesn't matter that much since the table takes most of the spin out of the ball anyway. And it's less consistent cuz of the wind, so more direct and defensive play is more effective than looping

      This guy is nowhere near 2000. He has a smash on high balls and just pushes otherwise. Dan just needed to relax and be more agressive. This guy can't move, has no idea how to handle heavy spin and pace. He can only smash easy balls and push. This is normal for recreational and street players. Make him move. If you get conservative against these guys you can definitely lose. Attack that pushy spin until you get used to it. If Dan played him three actual matches the next day he would soon win every game. This guy would be lucky to get 4 points.

    • @mjtsirhc
      @mjtsirhc 3 місяці тому +3

      Playing in the streets is a different game entirely. The ball reacts differently with the wind blowing, the tables and nets are different, and the play style of street players are really awkward to play against (especially if you're a technically trained player).

    • @unlearningcommunism4742
      @unlearningcommunism4742 3 місяці тому +2

      @@mjtsirhc Still, I haven't seen that the hustler has applied any advanced move.
      First 5 points were made after Dan playing it very conservative (push battle), and yet, the result was 9 vs 5
      6 and 7 were odd mistakes from Dan
      8 and 9 were illegal serves

  • @AndrewMao
    @AndrewMao 2 місяці тому

    For those who think Dan isn't trying... the wind (and the darkness) makes it a lot harder to play outdoors than it looks, which makes defensive shots stronger relative to attacking (which becomes harder due to reduced precision). Sometimes the wind even blows the ball back onto the side it came from after it bounces.
    Source: have played on that table (it's in Bryant Park at 42nd St at 5th Ave). It's also quite grippy and so the ball's spin gets transferred to its direction when it bounces, much more than an indoor table, which also affects timing.

    This is not even close. There are way better players in Bryant Park. I plated him a while back and beat him easily. You need to play good players and majority of them left that place since the tables are removed and they are all at Ping Pod!

    He is good but not stratospheric, i.e, just drove balls that sat up.

    You guys make me laugh. That Kiki doesn't understand anything about backspin or topspin with a lot of effect. He only attacks when the ball goes his way without much spin and he is only good at that. You could have spent 20 years playing table tennis and if you don't understand your opponent's weak point in a few seconds, the decades you have played are of no use. Table tennis is not just about playing and sending the ball wherever you can. You have to send the ball where you want. With Kiki's terrible belly, you should have sent the ball to come out from the sides of the table alternately.

    Honestly Dan's level is not great for his affort although he improved a lot during the years... I would play him for a 1000 dollars (just played 3 years in a club with age 13)
