    The rebound from the sledges is incredible.

  • @dragonstonegemironworkscra4740

    Nice lil Anvil! I should think it should handle most any smithing task. Add a bickern , that can be used in the Hardy hole in all 4 direction? Idk
    God bless y'all now
    Crawford out 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏼‍♂️

    Is the Graham next? Atlas's big brother.

      @zaph3 Рік тому +2

      OK, next time they are in Iowa I will let them whack on a couple different Graham anvils, and maybe even the big 280# Dave anvil!

      @@zaph3 Does the Graham anvil necessarily come with one edge partially pre-rounded as pictured? What's the depth of the swages, and is there any recommended way of securing the anvils while using them?
      Is there any intent to sell the Dave anvil again in the future? And what does it even look like, I haven't found any pictures.

    Swage added on the side of the base on the latest version of the Atlas. Lay on side for some handy swage action.

    Kinda makes me wonder what would happen if you took hardness measurements before and after, just how much "work hardening" (if any) occurs and how deep does it extend sort of thing.

    • @tijlaerts
      @tijlaerts Рік тому +2

      Work hardening mostly increases strength. Actual HRC values will not change much at all.

      I've always wondered to what extent the face of my anvil work hardens after a miss-hit. Though I don't think it changes the surface hardness at all

      @@xXMACEMANXx I don't really have a deep understanding of how metal hardness works, just kind of spitballing and thinking out loud ..

    I have one of these, for a knife maker I think they are worth the cost. That being said the lack of a horn can be annoying sometimes

      Can you make a 90⁰ bickern for the Hardy hole? It could be set at 4 different angles to the Hardy hole? Right 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏼‍♂️

      @@dragonstonegemironworkscra4740 yeah you can but of course then the hardy is being occupied. Some normal smithing jobs are just better on a regular anvil.

      So Atlas does make one with a horn if you look on their website. The base of that anvil is a swage block

    I really loved the rebound on this anvil it was throwing the sledge back up I didn't have to pick it up I had to catch it lol

    Looks like it held up noticeably better than the vevor and doyle ones. Which is to be expected at the higher pricepoint.
    I'd like to see atlas compared to some more expensive brands. But that's starting to get painfull to watch x)

    Roy, I truly admire your work and will continue watching. But I have a question. The last 4 or 5 videos you put out were nonsense. Why would you beat a small inexpensive anvil to its breaking point with a 12 lb. sledgehammer with no hot steel on it. If the reason is to see how stronger or how well it will serve you I think you missed the point. I don't think your patrion donors are getting their money's worth. My rant but it had to be said.

      High carbon steel, in Houston, can show surface rust within _hours_ outside. We can have a foggy night, and the next morning, I can hear the rust grinding off of my brake rotors.
