Tim Owens, truly "living the dream" here. How many times do u think as a youngster he faced the mirror & pretended he was next to KK & Glen fronting Priest? And here he is! One of the greatest stories ever in Rock & Roll/Metal.
Here's the reality of that whole situation: Halford- probably the greatest metal frontman in history. Ripper- probably the greatest replacement singer in history, and a good singer in his own right. fair?
He's so good and so underrated. There will never be another Halford, but Ripper gets unfairly dissed by dumb Priest fans. This rendition of The Sentinel was at least as good as Halford's. Ripper's screams were better and the rough quality of his voice was better suited to the 90's, when this stuff was recorded. He gave us 7 years of kickass Priest that wouldn't otherwise have happened. There's only one metal god, but Ripper's haters can STFU.
I must say I hadnt been impressed with a Preist album since Turbo & that wasnt too great. Painkiller & Touch of Evil were Great, didnt care for anything on the album. - I picked up Juggulator CD for 2.00 at a Flea market ...... And EVERY song kicked ass. I really relly like it a lot . And his voice does go better for the changing times imo. Bit more virsitle than Halford. Sorry people ,Im a long time Presit fan since Sin after Sin ,but just calling it how I see it.
My feeling is can you imagine what the members of Judas Priest must have felt when Rob Halford left them and all those years that they long to be on stage performing their music and then to find The Shining Light find the needle in the haystack Ripper Owens comes and Saves the Day for the members of the band. and they get a chance to do what they love at a super high level. Man that must have been unbelievable for both Owens and the members of Judas Priest. But I got to say no matter how great Ripper Owens is when he tackles those incredible priest songs. There is no one that sings them songs better than Rob Halford. He put his whole being into those lyrics and into the delivery of the lyrics and personified all of those lyrics. The characters that he assumes with his voice like in songs like the ripper he actually sings it as if he were the character himself. electric eye diamonds and rust live Unleashed in the east the tyrant. from sin after sin dissident aggressor. The list is endless the immense musician visionary and vocalist that Robert Halford was and still is ,let us never say someone is better than that guy when it comes to what he sang with Judas Priest. He is the vocalist of Judas Priest forever and ever amen
@@97warlock well what happened was Ripper Owens had many different influences obviously Rob Halford being one of the main ones so that's why he comes off with so much diversity. As well Rob Halford organically developed his style and his approach with very few vocalist getting anywhere near that ability besides deep purples and Led Zeppelin when Rob Halford was coming up. But Rob Halford took that and just went way above any of those two vocalists. Owens is an amazing vocalist but without Rob Halford Owens would be missing one hell of an influence in his voice. Rob Halford forever and always is what I say
This kids voice is incredible. Yes, he doesn't have the swag and stage presence of Rob Halford, but I give the guy credit for getting up there and belting out Priest jams with everything he's got. Those songs ain't easy to sing.
Great version. Tim had balls stepping into the lead singer role in Priest. Sure he took a lot of heat for it, but he sang like a champ. He's got talent and has moved onto other projects.
I like Ripper. He seems like a goofy, cool guy that hits all the bells on the Goof-O-Meter being fun loving and silly, yet still has a voice that can shatter glass. A+ 👍
Priest fan here... this is what Priest offered at this time ...plain and simple...they thought it was what they needed to do to survive. can't shoot the dude down for wht the rest of your heroes chose... they carried on as best they could. All in all Priest has left us an undeniable legacy to resonate for decades and for that, we should rejoice.
same here. saw em with halford around 2005 or so but i so wished to see them with Ripper. Seeing them with Rob was such a dissapointment for me as I started my JP listenting journey with Ripper and Halford sounded very bad live at the time. it just wasn't there. painkiller at the end of the set...man...he sounded like a parrot. weak and tired.
So nice to see a video where Ripper wasn't half assing it. The Sentinel off of Live in London was completely phoned in - its as if here he still had something to prove
Ripper is an awesome singer, it's nearly effortless. However, he is really very awkward in himself, comical at times. It's easier to just listen and not watch. If he had stage presence he would still be with priest because Rob's voice died slowly. Ripper was a great replacement vocally but he is so uncool. Jesus why didn't they groom him for the role and get in some choriographers to help him. He looks a little nerdy. However, saying all that....what an awesome voice (but you need more than that)
I agree completely. Ripper's vocal range was probably better than Halford's by the time this video was recorded, but he just doesn't act like a Metal God on stage, y'know? Half of the appeal of Judas Priest is massive stage acts and the guy doesn't really seem to have the gravitas to deliver.
MalikCarr I agree too, I recently saw them and Richie although he's been in this band for around 3 years now he just fits in perfectly like a puzzle piece while Ripper just sticks out like a sore thumb
GrayWoIf I don`t think that... Only look the concert in London on 2001.. Ripper has his own style... he is charismatic and is very enthusiasthic with the crowd... He has his own style... Rob Halford at his return with JP in 2005 is a very narcissistic and egocentric guy.... Both are great but Ripper is singin better than Halford nowadays... Only listen his performance on Painkiller and compare with the performance of Halford on Graspop 2008
Ripper is way better nowadays, he just didn't have any experience back then. He looks like a real metal icon now, but sadly he has to perform to very limited audiences. Just search for his recent live performances on UA-cam.
Tim is and was a badass with priest. Most of the time he held his own or on some occasions even topped Halford on the older songs imo but this one can never be topped. Halford on the live album screaming out condemned to hell!!! Will never be topped. That was the perfect version. ua-cam.com/video/-Fl7yNIPlGM/v-deo.html
you numbskull. they didnt tune it down because of his voice range. why lowkey diss ripper like that? LOL. if anything, ripper can sing higher than halford and has more power to it as proven time and time again. the reason for the downtuning is that they promoted songs from their then new release Jugulator and since those songs were lower tuned, they wanted to avoid having a million different tuned guitars on tour so they just carried on with those guitars for their other songs, for the most part. it was a logistical decision, nothing more, nothing less
Saw this tour.he was awesome then and still great. I like ripper better than halford Simply because he added another element to priest.a different vocal range and tone. Noone else could have pulled this off
Ripper can hit the high notes Halford can't reach anymore but Rob has more stage presence in his pinky than Ripper has period. Ripper was great fill in tho.
ripper is awesome but this song just sucks if someone else does it than halford. same thing would happen to halford if he tried to sing burn in hell or jugulator.
Well, I think Owens was the best choice for Priest, and by the way I think Owens dont fits in Slayer or Testament his style is pure and the best Heavy Metal, I think the perfect bnd for him was Iced Earth he has to stay there, or Manowar.
people bitching about rippers stage presence, halford was hardly a fuckin acrobat was he?? been watching a lot of priest stuff, he doesn't really do anything.

To get the role of a lifetime and absolutely nail it. Legend. And one of the best live singers from 1998-2005, easily.
Yea, they rocked that.

Greatest replacement singer in history? So what do you call Ronnie James Dio, and Bruce Dickinson?
Sort of sad to watch this. Glenn's abilities have declined SO much in the past 20 years. :( Can't believe it's been that long already.

Halford's live version from 1986 crushes this. Tim is a great singer but he is not even close.

geeze. . he really improves the song. . at least with the very first verse. ..
Define 'better'. These days, Halford mostly bends over and occasionally moves to the opposite side of the stage.
