    Excellent review, but at 25:25 I would have done a control and gyro direction test before taxiing out. Demonstrate that raising a wingtip causes the aileron on that side to deflect upward to push that tip back down and then raise the tail and show that the elevator deflects upward to push the tail back down. Then I would have taxied the plane about 100 feet away and done a range test. I know you said to mechanically reduce the throw, but I would have said to move the pushrods in one hole on the servo arms and to make sure the pushrods are in the outer hole on the control horns. Also, regular Loctite will eat some plastics. I like FMS planes, but they should have put a carbon fiber rod in that wing. Good call on the tape over the reversing switches. 👍😎

      Yep.. I agree with everything you said.. That wasn't the maiden flight for this plane, so I left some parts out.. I've shown the Gyro test on other Ranger videos and to be honest the length of this video was getting pretty long..😎. Its so hard to cram everything that goes into these assemblies, flights and reviews into a video that folks will watch. Thanks again, I really appreciate your comments. Great review crammed full of information and tips! I am thinking of getting into RC flying in my retirement (63yrs old) and this looks a good start. I have looked at some 400 and 450mm models but they look very 'twitchy' in flight where this has some presence and seemed to fly more steady. Would you agree?

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  2 місяці тому +1

      Peter, those little planes are fun, but not ideal to learn to fly with. I’m a fan of bigger flies better. Since my eyes aren’t great, a bigger plane is just easier to see. Also, they fly smoother. I recently made a video on the latest version of this Ranger. A solid beginner plane for sure. The RTF version is ok, as the transmitter is very basic. If you plan on getting into the hobby, I’d suggest a better TX/RX system. Lots of options. Good luck. Will

    Hey, I just got my Ranger 1200 V2. I think I am missing something. The cable from the Reflex V2 "AIL" output is NOT a splitter cable and they did not supply any adaptor to connect both aileron cables from the wings. How did you do that connection? Am I missing something.
    All videos I've watched say the AIL cable is a Y cable (1 into 2). Mine is not.

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  4 дні тому

      Louis, There should be a y-cable attached to the reflex gyro from the factory. It should be plugged into the TOP "Ail" plug. If thats only a single, that wrong. You must have a y-cable for the wing servos to connect to the gyro. I'd buy one from Amazon and send a not to FMS about sending you one. In this hobby, having a few y cables and extensions is pretty handy.. Really sorry about that.. Let me know.

    Hello, can you tell us what the switch positions are for beginner optimized and expert, I believe expert is in middle, is the begginer mode switch downward? So you can slam the switch down to save from crashing? This is a very fun plane, my first electric after 35 yrs of gas planes 🤪

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  6 місяців тому +1

      If you are referring to the RTF version. The Reflex has the 3 modes. Stabilization mode, which is self level. I think thats in the position that is towards the pilot (To by honest, I don't have the RTF version with that Flysky TX, I can't remember which way the switch goes). You can tell you are in this mode because the control surfaces will move and remain in place until the plane is level. For example, hold the plane with the prop facing you. Bank the plane with the right wing up, the aileron on the right/raised wing will be up and remain until you level the wings. The other mode is Optimized, which helps with windy conditions. When you test it, you'll notice the aileron will rise, but return to level even if that wing is banked.. The middle position is no gyro engaged... Hope this helps.

    How do you know how much battery life you have left? Do you fly it on a timer or is there like an audible or visual warning?

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  2 місяці тому

      I use two methods on the plane that don't have RX/TX battery telemetry. 1st, I use a timer and find the right time after a mess of flights. I usually don't fly more than 5 minutes on any of my planes.. (I lose concentration....). The 2nd thing, I use a FMS Predator Battery voltage alarm that can give me an audible alarm when the battery reaches a specified voltage. Easy to use and can be transferred from plane to plane. I made a video on that Voltage alarm..

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Місяць тому

      That landing gear on grass can be a pain in the butt. One of the best things about this Ranger is the landing gear. One of the worse things about this Ranger... The landing gear... So, You brought me a fun challenge for me to figure out how to stiffen the spring, but not too much. I just tested one theory and it actually did a pretty good job.. I removed the gear from the plane and slid a section of heat shrink tubing over the spring and lower part of the LG. I didn't extend above the spring since that would interfere with the installation. I'm going to play around with other ideas, but you might try the heat shrink tuning. Love to hear if it helps.. - Will

    • @martynbr5
      @martynbr5 Місяць тому

      @ thanks for tip, I did not have any heat shrink so used some tape around the spring, tested on wet grass outside my flats and no nose overs I will now get some heat shrink that might work better than tape. Any tips on how to get the plane a bit more nose up when sitting on the ground.👍

    • @SteffenRC

      You might be able to find a slightly taller front wheel. Also a washer/spacer on that nose wheel gear flange where is stops at the fuselage. The combo might give you a little height.. But not much...

      Hello Michelle, Thanks for watching my video. The Ranger 1220 is a wonderful trainer and should enable you to learn how to fly these rc planes. I made a series of videos about HOW TO FLY RC PLANES. Take a look at my channel for this. It should help. The Gyro in the Ranger has 3 modes. Stabilized Mode(Self Leveling) which is ideal for new pilots. Optimized Mode (wind correction for smoother flying) is for when you have some basic piloting skills. The other mode is OFF. No gyro assist at all. Again, I encourage you to check out my beginner series. Good luck. Will

      The RTF (ready to fly) version has a transmitter that doesnt have a flight timer. The more expensive transmitters have an actual flight timer you can set on your transmitter, with voice or audible notifications. The timer is useful to remind you how much time you have on your flight. For example, I know from testing that this plane will use up 70% of its battery during a 5 min flight. So, I set the timer to 5min. I'll be notified of the time and can land without an emergency (running out of battery).. Hope that helps... Will

    What is "throw"?

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  2 місяці тому +1

      "Throw" is the amount of angle on the control surface. The more "throw" the more that control surface will effect the planes maneuvering. Too much and the plane can be too sensitive to fly. It will be very erratic. Reducing the throw or increase the "Expo" (reducing sensitivity on the transmitter sticks) is good for newer pilots. I hope that answer helps. Thanks for the watching the video. Will
