- ”Defenders” is a fast-paced, touching short film which combines the message to spare and protect the most vulnerable in armed conflict with the African youth’s passion for football.
To spread that message attractively, a much-admired African football player is involved: Kalidou Koulibaly, Captain of Senegal, central defender who lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2022. He appears pro bono in the film, using football jargon to support more traditional messages based on the rules of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
Aimed primarily at youth in Africa, the film also intends to raise awareness among broader audiences, encouraging all of them to defend the most vulnerable in conflict, in other words to defend IHL. The project opens 2024, the year of the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions.
