hello everyone! i want to say thank you so incredibly much for all of your kind comments, love, and support on this video… you don’t know how much it means to me ♡ this was such a turbulent year for college admissions and i’m so glad we’ve been able to connect and share our victories, struggles, and everything in between. i’ve gotten lots of comments & DMs on instagram asking about my stats, extracurriculars, and essays! while i may talk about some of that information in future vlogs, Q&A’s, etc., i will NOT be making dedicated videos on those topics - i truly believe that the admissions process is so different for every person, that you have to focus on your own strengths, and that comparison does nothing but rob you of your own joy. with that being said, below is a little overview of my portfolio for those really interested:
⋆ GPA at my school is weighted and i have a 4.2 out of a 4 scale
⋆ we are not informed of our class rank, but i do know that i will be graduating summa cum laude from my high school
⋆ i took 5 APs (physics, calc AB, european history, american history, & art history)
⋆ i did NOT submit any test scores (SAT/ACT or subject tests)
⋆ i am the president of four different clubs and heavily involved on and off school campus in leadership programs, social justice activism, and musical theater
⋆ IMO my essays were well written, niche, and very focused on what i’ve worked on in my educational experience thus far and why i want to continue that work :D

This was the craziest, most entertaining college admission video I've watched. I somehow missed the fact that you got into Harvard in the title so it was a big surprise for me. I love the juxtaposition between you sobbing and your family celebrating LMAO UPenn missed out!

no, i’m sorry, but YOU need to stop talking. getting accepted into college is such a big accomplishment and a huge milestone in people’s lives. and getting into ivy leagues- even more so. he SHOULD be proud of himself because the application process requires so much time, dedication, hard work, and a high degree of intelligence. so maybe some colleges work students extra hard and in your opinion, can be compared to a “prison”- so what? let this guy have his moment and mind your own business if you aren’t happy for him as everyone else here is. if you see this, congratulations Matt!!
well i’m sorry about your experiences as a professor; it sounds like you had a really rough time, to put it simply. however, this might not be the case for other individuals. your experiences do not always apply to others. i know you might consider me inferior and with less knowledge because you were a professor, and i understand and respect that. you sound like you’ve gone through a lot. nevertheless, i still don’t think you should say, “congratulations for NOTHING!!!!” as it downplays of all the learning, studying, and testing he had to undergo. i wouldn’t say getting through that and getting accepted into college is ‘nothing’. especially this year, due to college acceptance rates dropping so low as a result of the overflow of students. getting into any Ivy League this year and even any other year is a HUGE accomplishment. your version and other people’s versions of what goes on behind the scenes in college are exceedingly different- of course, i don’t know everything that goes down and i shouldn’t be the one to speak. but the majority hasn’t seen what you’ve seen. i wouldn’t think Matt is the type of guy to scream at professors. i don’t want to downplay the hardships you’ve endured just as Matt wouldn’t want his accomplishments downplayed, so ALL i ask is that you refrain from saying, “congratulations for NOTHING!!!” or “Stop congratulating him.”. i don’t mean to disrespect you, am not trying to understate anything, and it is not my goal to offend anyone- but really if, you’re not here to congratulate him and instead do the opposite, i suggest taking that negativity somewhere else. this is a wholesome college decisions video, not a “what’s wrong with college?” video. Matt can do what he wants with the information, however, in the end it’s only his experience- not others- that will really matter to him as it’s his own life that he’s living. again, please let him receive praise and congratulations from those who are happy for him instead of telling them to stop congratulating him on his accomplishments!

@Katie Ellen Tu How low do you have to be to WILLINGLY click on a college decision reaction video just to put down someone's acceptance? You watched this video yourself. I am sorry for the bad experiences you had to go through as a professor, but please stop acting like this is everyone else's case as well. My mom is a full professor in finance but she loves her job, despite the times where her students may bug her a little bit. No matter who you are, 99% of the time if you get into a school like Harvard, you had to have worked your butt off to some serious extent. He did not work this hard just for you to say these hurtful things. I know that this whole "pReStiGe" college stigma thing is unreasonable and a crapshoot, but this man never once said that it was good. He just got accepted to Harvard, was extremely happy and proud of himself, and is going to attend school there because it provides great opportunities.

i remember watching this as a sophomore in high school and being so jealous because i never saw an ivy league university in my future no matter how much i wanted it. Here i am, a senior in high school, and i have just received a likely letter from my dream school Cornell University. Keep inspiring people matt, keep posting videos, because someone like me will see and will be better for it

LMAO I related so much to the crying about the deferral! I laughed way too hard at that part because that same night I was balling my eyes out too. I got deferred by Yale, but then I was accepted to Columbia and UPenn '25 regular decision, and such a huge weight came off of my shoulders. Congratulations on those AWESOME acceptances! We all worked very hard this year and our chances were even slimmer, so this is a great accomplishment!

I only recently started watching these reactions, 25 years after my own experience with the college application process. Back then the decisions came in the mail and most of us faced the music alone and standing by the mailbox. It is good to see that so many students have the support of family and friends. Your video was a great example of how you just can't predict what will happen. You drilled that magical Harvard acceptance, even after multiple other schools wait listed or rejected you. It's a lesson to everyone that the process isn't precise and that a rejection or five doesn't mean that you are flawed. Congratulations!

I love it! My son is now a freshman at Ohio State. He was rejected from Penn and Yale but at least did get interviews with both. He did get accepted to NYU however but we decided Ohio State where my wife and I graduated would continue our family legacy. Best wishes to you. I would have let them cut off a limb if it would have gotten my kid into Harvard. Congratulations!! You are on your way young man. Excellent! i got rejected by 7 uni in 2020, then i decided to take a gap year and try again this year, and finally i got accepted in 3 uni. See, theres nothing like failure, God will always give us something we need not something we want in the right time with the right reason. I'm really happy for your harvard acceptance ❤️
