  • Barbara Hepworth made a number of print portfolios between 1969 and 1971 using screenprint and lithograph techniques. She explained how she used these processes to work on ideas which would eventually translate into sculpture, achieving an abstract sense of space, form and texture through the use of transparent smooth layers and bold mark-making.
Two sets of lithographs were produced with the Curwen Press. This included the series The Aegean Suite (1971) which developed Hepworth’s fascination with Greece and made links between geometric forms and sites associated with ancient Greek culture.
In this short film, Eleanor Clayton (Curator, The Hepworth Wakefield) and Stanley Jones (Master printmaker and artist) discuss Hepworth's use of printmaking within her practice. It includes Jones' personal recollection of working with Hepworth from 1958 when he started a pilot scheme to establish printmaking facilities in a studio in St Ives
Stanley Jones founded the Curwen Print Study Centre in the 1990s and he is determined that its future is secure for generations to come. Find out how you can help preserve Jones' legacy of fine art printmaking and contribute to the expansion of the Centre at www.curwenprintstudy.co.uk/si...
A special portfolio of reproduction prints from The Aegean Suite is available from The Hepworth Wakefield. Nine reproduction prints are beautifully presented in a black portfolio box. This portfolio also includes an 8-paged paperback facsimile with an introductory essay and details for each print. £225.
