Their record deal with contact records fell through, so headstones wasnt released. However about half the songs were rerecorded for psychedelic sounds.
For those wondering about the palm trees, this was a Halloween show, and the plan was for the band to dress in gorilla costumes. Needless to say, the band told the show's producers to get lost.
Noone in evansville indiana except a few NEVER heard of the 13th floor elevators. Lucky for me a friend at vincenbes university turn me on to them in 1985 an been so thankful since. Feel for the truths that made it the history it affect its familys an etc. But true rick in roll irigenals but in evansville indiana it was who???
Personally, I would have replaced the jug with a Vox organ and maybe they would have sounded just like early Pink Floyd! But as far as I'm concerned, their first album was just as important a document of mid-60s acid rock as "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn"
Sad to say but in real life they were losers. Not in the way of being worthless but so unhappy. Stacy was so hopeless. He was shot to death in 78, sad story. John Ike imbittered about being ripped off by record companies, living on a meager income. Rocky a sad case mentally. Really sad.
They weren't losers at all, they were all extremely passionate about their art, their vision and they were short changed by everyone from record producers to businessmen and the Texas authorities used them as an example on why you sadly aren't allowed to openly be yourself and not fear doing it in the process. They were musical trailblazers in the truest sense, the real deal!!! Long live 13th Floor Elevators!!!!!!
Know Moore I knew them personally. Stacy and John Ike lived with me and my 1st wife. Stacy wanted to die. When he was shot instead they just talked until he bled out. John Ike was rightfully bitter about being ripped off by the record company. I’m not saying this to put them down. I often tried to encourage Stacy to keep making music but he struggled with his inner demons that he often told me about. Yes I miss them too they were so talented. Imagine if Stacy were here now. He had so much potential. I also knew his mother who also was aware of his struggles. His sister passed a year or two ago but his older brother is still with us, a great guy.

“We're all heads.” Without missing a beat and it went right over everyone’s heads.

he got it... but he didn't like it. that's why he cut it short. had nothing to do with an airplane.
@@pgroove163 Respect to Clark for introducing them to a wider audience. R.I.P Roky.
And he's looking right into the back of Dick Clark's skull! 😝🤯

Best comeback line in all of history
Too much cool for school and all Heads indeed. I can't help but wonder if the jug wasn't on those records they may have been as big as the Stones.

wow
Wow Roky was beautiful.
Be a smart mouth with mr clark or mr sullivan an see if you get asked back
So that's what that sound was---a JUG! And all this time, I thought that was the sound of someone convulsing from a bad LSD trip!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rocky papuchooo
Jug man helped create an acid cult - I heard they lived in a cave - but gossip is a strange beast.
That’s Tommy Hall

I’d take any one of those guys over a 100 of you. The world misses all these guys, especially Roky, but ain’t NOBODY gonna miss you when you’re gone.

More tragic than losers
