My best advice for budgeting is sticking with your list. Make a hand written list. If possible, meal prep. This will help you plan for what you need. You can even lookup pricing on the store's website. Have your list in front of you the entire time you shop. Check off each item and write the price next to it. Once you have every item on the list, add up the total. If you are over, find a cheaper alternative for something in your basket. If not available, you have to choose what item to remove. This is a non-negotiable if you are sticking to your budget. Its better to do this before you get to checkout. If you are below budget, you can get additional "wants", but do not exceed budget. This really helped me when I was in college.
Gotta know good deals and sales and not just pick up pricey items cause its good or a craving coupons are great way to save for you as a college student
Don’t let people intimidate you! You speak fluent Korean. Speak Korean every opportunity you have. That man was just a test. Continue on your path!😻😻😻😻
Amyah, great work on the grocery shopping! Let's focus on stocking up on pantry staples this month and then just add fresh meats and veggies weekly. You're doing awesome, keep it up!
Amaya you did great remember it is an inflation so by stocking up on cooked rice and dumplings you don't have to purchase them in a hurry. Also I do the Ramen but instead of putting the entire packet of seasoning I put half and put the rest in a container to season soups. But Ramen is the best crave and budget friendly food.
This is the best advice. Veggies are perishable and you only have a few days to keep them fresh, unless you parboil and freeze. I doubt you have that much room.
I was just thinking this. My husband and I do food storage. I know a lot of people don't have the time or space for it, but it saves so much money to buy all of our staples (we are vegetarian so quinoa, lentils, etc) in bulk at Sam's club. Then, we buy fresh veggies as we need them.
You be confident in your ability to speak korean . That man in the market understood you, he just was surprised you spoke korean. Keep pushing against stereotypes while embracing your beautiful blackness also. Do you have a place to store this stuff a dormitory fridge that is big enough?! Wow, i guess you are in dorm with a common kitchen for cooking! Pretty good freshman hookup here. So proud of you taking the bus getting to know your college town in new ways! You did an excellent job budgeting, commuting ! Love the re braided hair looks great!! I'm sure they have healthier selections in the cafeteria make sure you advocate for some. Students do get homesick for specifics types of food you advocating may help other students from various countries attending the University. Make sure you are working out with friends!! Do you have a roommate (s)? Definitely would like to see your interaction with others on campus if they dont mind being filmed. Friendship is part of the college experience also! We dont want you filming so much that you are missing the opportunity to make lasting friendships. So proud of you young sis continue to exercise self care in your academic pursuits!❤
Agreed! You never know where speaking fluent Korean can take you as a black woman. Keep on speaking Korean. Don't be intimidated. You speak it so much better than many American-Koreans do. Aaanndd, you can probably watch kdramas without subtitles!!! I wish I could!!!
I love how you don't go too overboard. You didn't buy snacks and you try to stay healthy. You're such a joy to watch a lot of young people in college are not as mature and as Disciplined as you appear to be not to say that. You didn't go OVER budget, but that you tried to stay mindful. Prayers and blessings all the way from dallas texas
Amyah, you are your mother's child. Great job of taking care of yourself and budgeting. So proud of you. I feel like, I've grown up with you. God bless
My best adivce is to look at what you already have in your food box, in your fridge and your freezer. Then work out a mea plan with what you have left for the week. After that plan out other meals for the rest of that week, and the week ahead. That way you know what you need to get each week. Basically just plan your meals for each week and stick to that list utilising what you already have left in you food box, fridge and freezer.
Love love this girl. Wish kids these days is like Amyah. The dumplings can be steamed too. Buy an adjustable strainer and place in a small pot. Quick easy meal.
a few budgeting tips, dumplings are delicious but will almost always end up causing you to go over budget, only contemplate getting them at the end of the grocery trip. you should also find out if maybe a dumpling restaurant near you sells theirs frozen, they are often cheaper or you get more for the price. also it helps to use a calculator as you go, putting in the price for each item you put in your cart instead of guessing towards the end. separating your cart is helpful as well, put all the necessities in one area, and have those rung up first at check out, and then after seeing the total, slowly add the other items in the cart, that way if you are close to being over budget, you have all the necessities and don't have to ask to have items removed from the bill
If you still have some place left in your freezer, I recommend you to cut a part of your vegetables and freeze them, so if you don’t eat them in the upcoming days, you can still eat them later whenever you want 🙃.
OMG AMAYAH!! I'm from the Bay Area and my mom worked right across the street from this asian grocery store and I loved this market! It literally has everything you need. You unlocked a core memory for me. I hope I run into you one day when I'm out in Oakland or Berkeley... Wishing you a successful journey with your studies!
Amyah,...Try sticking to your pre-planned list and use a calculator as you add things to your grocery basket. You did good -- now lets see how many meals you get out of this $125.00 grocery haul. Good luck on your meal planning journey!
It may be off. Some people like having it on their head to give the impression they are listening to something but not really. Some introverts do it bur they can hear everything happening around them. Don't know if she is an introvert though, but as an introvert I can understand doing that.
One thing that my family does to save money because grocery is soooooooooo expensive. We would install the app( if they have one) and then add everything thing we need. if it goes over we can take things off, so that when we go to the grocery store we wont go over our budget! Hope this helps.
Hi Amay! I watched you as kid! You are all grown up!.stay focus and get out of Uni with flying colours stay true to yourself and keep good company girl
I use to live in Oakland and KP market was my go to store for asian foods. I miss it. Definitely sign up for their newsletter and see what is on sale for that week.
Enjoyed the trips. Felt like I was right there with you Ms.A. So proud of you. You make your parent proud. You’re such a great example to your younger siblings. You’re a great Trail Blazer. Keep up the good work ❤love you
아마야~~ You are so cute and intelligent!! When you talked to the man in the market you said, "벌써 다 했어?" Which feels more like "You already did everything?" So I think he was confused! Your accent is so good, so it wasn't because of that! I think next time if you want to ask if a product is gone out, you can say "품절이에요?" This is more asking about if the product or something is sold out! Keep being such a bright girl! 화이팅~~
You are such a natural!! I’ve been following your fam for years & was excited to hear you’re at UC Berkeley. I’ll be praying for you to stay encouraged, prayed up, and prosperous in your studies. Blessings to you lil sis!🙏🏾💃🏾
Korean cucumbers kimchi 8 Persian cucumber 🥒 1/2 tab of sea , to draw the water out. Drain excess water from cucumbers. 2 tsp if in jar Minced garlic , Green onions the tops, 1white onion Wang Korean red pepper Gochu 2 tsp of sugar 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar 1/4 cup sesame seed oil Sesame seed.
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 mum & Joe have raised you with budgeting skills so well. Korean food is always nice when cooked with love. Brilliant keep it up. There are so many temptations. Spend wisely. Good on you Amyah. It's all Brain Food. Thank you for the look in❤😊
if you want, you can get those grocery trolley bags with the wheels for public transportation. i commute and it's super handy. I put all the heavy stuff in the trolley and if it's too full, I put the rest in my handbag/backpack
Amaya you did great! You enjoyed the experience and got the courage too speak Korean to an employee. The miscommunication was his fault not yours! Hold your head up! You did what you set out to do! And trust! We all sometimes go over budget! You’ll get better at it. Especially if the budget is the only money you take or have on you. Then putting stuff back gets embarrassing and people in line get upset. We live. We learn. The fact still remains, you’re young , beautiful, confident, and smart. Really smart! You had some good ideas.
Enjoy college. Always happy to see a young black woman and man...getting an education. My grandson is heading to college this year. We're all so excited. If you have any tips to share. All are welcome!
You look so happy and healthy. I’m happy you are having a good first year experience. A former student reached out to yesterday to say she had a really awful first semester but is hoping spring will be better. Were you able to fit all that meat in your tiny freezer?
I've had bibimbop at a korean restaurant with my then soon-to-be husband. The rice was crispy, I didn't expect that. My default style of cooking can swing from Southern, to Asian to Latin. I look forward to seeing what you make and how you manage your groceries. Good job.
Yes, Sis, I think you could save more money by shopping at Berkeley Bowl ,especially for fresh produce. I didn’t see you buy any fruit. I have shopped at that Korean store. Please check out Berkeley Bowl. The F bus and the 18 bus stop right by it. I live in Berkeley. Be happy to show you around. I admire you so much🌸
13:25 Great job. In order to stay on budget make a list ahead for the meals you plan on preparing and only buy what you need. Snacks and treats last. Good luck and God bless you. Stay positive and enjoy. Watching from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I have had & enjoy Korean food. I think you did well with your shopping. It difficult to stay on budget when shopping to eat healthy. Give yourself a Pat on the Back. A common issue among College students is not eating healthy during college. Hence the expression the college 15 as in gaining weight. I am glad to see you are taking control of your health & well being God Bless🙏🏽
Great job Miss Amyah. You learned what I learned from taking only a tote bag to the market. Time to invest in a small sized bus friendly shopping kart. Smile Blessings 🙏
Get your veggies from Chinatown or the farmers market. They’re always more expensive at the Korean markets in the Bay Area. If you can,get a better price and you can end up getting more if you go out a certain time like when they’re about to leave. Never go to the store hungry because then you wanna buy more food yeah.
We love Amyah!!!! My UA-cam niece!!! You're doing a wonderful job on your own!!!! I'm sooooooo proud of you love!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ Oh! And CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 100K HUN!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have watched you growing up and I am so very proud of the responsible young lady you have become. Great job taking care of yourself. Be confident and do nit allow anyone or anything intimidate you. You got this!!! Speak the language and do not worry about mistakes you are only human. Great job!!!!❤🎉😊
Always check expiration dates, and ingredients, and compare the results to similar items. Are you paying for the name or the food. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. But if you check ingredients and freshness and it’s affordable, then grab it. Always go with your fut instinct. That way you don’t get “Buyers Remorse”. Which is what you were feeling when you said, “There goes my spending money.” We all do this. It’s not the end of the world. But you wont have a coffee or smoothie for the week you usually might splurge on. Im 52 yrs old. And i still go over budget once in a great moon. Your mama raised you right! You’re living and learning. Thats the only way you’re going to learn something, is by getting out there and doing it! Continued prayers for your journey! I watch your Mom and Dads UA-cam videos. I was thinking, if you let one of the cashiers know that you’re learning how to speak Korean, and that you wished your father would have taught you , who is Korean. When i was a cashier at a grocery store near a high school, there were kids who needed help with English, and some who needed assistance with speaking Spanish. I helped when i was told the situation. And my co workers were just as understanding. So if maybe you go in when you’re getting a few items when theyre not super busy, i bet they’re willing to interact with you for your social interactions and ask questions and ask if it’s ok to record the conversation so you can have recorded interactions to help with your pronouncing of words. And for homework purposes. If one employee says no, find the one who says yes. You got this! Maybe you can do a couple of hours bagging groceries, or part time there. That way you can have some interaction with the people who shop there. And you can open up to them by saying “Hello” in Korean. Prayers for you and your journey. You got this! ❤️🙏☝🏼🌻
Amyah you know she’s watching 😂😂. Plan ahead with a list next time before going shopping. You’re a beautiful girl I admire all of the activities that you are involved in. Keep up the good work. ❤️
Good job. Per your request I have a few suggestions: 1-never shop hungry 2-use a hand written list always 3-keep a running tally as you shop 4-shop your list ‘before’ adding anything unplanned item to your cart
Now i say something always close lock your door 🚪 once youre inside from the time you set your groceries down someone could came inside. once inside please just set the bag at the door or just simply turn around close lock the door then proceed on we women must be mindful 24/7 Great shopping ❤❤proud of young lady grown so Beautiful
Technically inspiring. Care to share the camera 🎥 which you use and how it moves when you’re out and about, especially the aisle shots. Important, impressive and inspired. ❤😂❤
Hello, I know your mom and dad and family are super proud of you. Please know your UA-cam aunties and Uncles are as proud too God bless you and your whole family❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I think you did good #125.44 is not badd from the $75 dollar budget u were teying to stay on.
You are making your mom and your dad proud. Mom'sand dad's hop in here and comment. I am so proud of this young girl! You will be proud of your parents also. I literally watch her grow up.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I loved everything you purchased it looks so yummy and healthy I love the dumplings one of my personal favorites is Bulgogi dumpling except I do mine a little different. I set them in boiling water just enough to thaw allow them to dry on a paper towel and then I place a bit of olive oil on a pan at medium heat for about 5-10 minutes or until golden brown with my pre-cooked rice. I would love to see more videos I think you're pretty amazing even a cooking one would be cool if you had a portable set in your dorm room. Thanks for sharing :)
I grew up on Chinese Caribbean fusion food. I have had Korean food before as almost all the Asian food stores where I live offer food products from across Asia. My only tip is to shop around like you would any other western store. Price compare and buy whichever product is cheapest from whichever store. It’s convenient to get all your stuff in one place but it’s not always cheapest.
You're doing great Amayah, it's hard sticking to a budget when you're in another country, but I know you can do it, your such a smart young lady. Congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscriber. ❤❤❤
Amyah, I’m not sure if you use grocery store apps but they do help you save occasionally. Also ask employees what time they reduce items and what days meats are marked down. The Kroger by my home is near a university and meat is reduced on Wed-Thurs. Sadly, now they have a limit on everything. I don’t blame them I was going to town on the meat. Hard to find salmon, filet mignon, and oxtails on sale.
So every Friday in the old Oakland china town area there is a market. There is a farmers market and all the veggies are way cheaper than market. They have all the Asian veggies way cheaper. that same bus route will put you right at the farmers market
The best thing to do is buy all your items on your list first look for deals and sale or cheaper brands in what you looking for. Continue using the phone calculator as you add the items that way you know what to add or take off. Then if you have left over money you ard the stuff you want but dont need like snacks and other stuff not necessary but wanted. But you did really good although you may have went over sometimes i go over too but i use my phone calculator now and i know exactly what my bill coming to when i go to cash.
So proud of you! If you ever need help in the bay I’m here (hope that did not sound creepy)😂 mom of 2 -grandma of 4 who knows what is like to worry about kids away from home❤ also a braider
It's a joy to watch you grow and flourish Amyah! You're so smart and positive. I wish nothing but the best for you and the mazelee family for all time. 😊 Much love from Socal! Congrats again for getting in to Berkeley!
Along with a list, I eat before I go to the store, saves me so much money. Also, American grocery stores I try my best to shop the perimeter of the store. Not sure how Asian grocery stores are set up.
Congratulations on your languages! Now work on your budget. You will do well. First time shopping alone you will go over. Now you can make the adjustments. Cabbage is called Napa ...Chinese. Stay in the light & love. ❤love❤
Advice :Next time just budget the food you already have take pictures before going to the store and just get what you know you can live off of before buying. No more distractions and don't overspend. Hope this helps. ❤the vlogs and learning about your life as a college student. Great job editing.🎉 Note to self: Worry about yourself.
Budgeting 😂 now I’m no pro but I make a list of what I’d like to eat for the week and ration what ingredients overlap and focus on buying those first before going to the snack aisle 😅
Never go grocery shopping when you’re hungry. You will over shop. A list done before shopping will help you get what you need. Add the total on your calculator as you put each item in your cart to make sure you do not go over budget.
Always eat before you go shopping. Stick to your shopping list. Scan items for prices if you can. Try stores that carry Korean products. Walmart carries all of that. So price comparisons online before you go shopping. Overall you did well. Please be careful.❤
Love your videos. Budgeting is difficult. Make sure you get only what you had on your list. It is easy to get off track because their are so many tempting items in the store. Love you.❤❤❤❤
Amyah, when I was in cooking school at trade tech college, one classmates use to take me Korean restaurant after class. She get this big bowl of soup, when came to the table it was boiling in bowl and I could her eating and was boiling, she would ask me why you not eating your soup I said we should is boiling I don't want my tongue to get burnt I had to wait till it cool off, before I can eat it. And she said in Korea that's the way they eat their soup when it's straight out the pot but I said you know me from California I have to wait to cool off before I can eat it.
good job even if you went over budget, one thing for sure , you will not be making another trip until you need to shop again.if you have enough meat you can be creative with the sides. your mom and Joe and your dad did a great job.
I have had Korean food my best friend growing up was half Korean and half African American. Some of my favorite foods are bulgogi, kimchi ,bibimbop and Yopokki Trewokvokki
Thanks for all the congrats 🎉 ❤
apply for calfresh as a student free groceries !! i did it as a student
Congratulations it's good to be in college
Very good advice for her on budgeting🤗👍
will do 😂 🤭
Excellent advice 🥰💯
Gotta know good deals and sales and not just pick up pricey items cause its good or a craving coupons are great way to save for you as a college student

Honestly the man said the exact same thing as you and then said he doesn't understand 😅
He definitely understood! Your Korean is awesome! ❤
He sounded Alil rude I’m probably just sensitive but sounded rude
You know, smh.
Exactly. He missed an opportunity to practice tolerance and respect 😊
Agreed! You never know where speaking fluent Korean can take you as a black woman. Keep on speaking Korean. Don't be intimidated. You speak it so much better than many American-Koreans do. Aaanndd, you can probably watch kdramas without subtitles!!! I wish I could!!!

Korean favs: bibimbap, bulgogi, korean sides:. Seaweed, potato salad, spicy ramen, (forgot the korean name) seaweed wrapped rice sandwiches, etc 🤗
Your words have power. Don't label yourself as "broke". Try words like "frugal", "pennywise" or "financially responsible". Our words have power.
Frugal? Penny wise? 😂
Today I am so pennywise 😅 will try

If you can,get a better price and you can end up getting more if you go out a certain time like when they’re about to leave. Never go to the store hungry because then you wanna buy more food yeah.
Congratulations on 100k 🥳✨
You are well versed in the cuisine and that’s a big help to You. Good job to your parents! 🎉
And you can open up to them by saying
“Hello” in Korean. Prayers for you and your journey.
You got this! ❤️🙏☝🏼🌻
So super, super proud of you young lady!!!!🎉👸🏾🎊
I see you getting your master's degree in London. Much love from SF, CA🙋🏾🌉
Amyah you know she’s watching 😂😂. Plan ahead with a list next time before going shopping. You’re a beautiful girl I admire all of the activities that you are involved in. Keep up the good work. ❤️
She had her list on her phone
@@YonUndone3064 you right she did, I intended to say stick to the list
Thank you
Good job. Per your request I have a few suggestions:
1-never shop hungry
2-use a hand written list always
3-keep a running tally as you shop
4-shop your list ‘before’ adding anything unplanned item to your cart
I noticed when I shop hungry I fill my cart
Get you a trolley cart
For water/drinks ,snacks etc
So you can save space in the fridge
you could also try meal prepping each week
Now i say something always close lock your door 🚪 once youre inside from the time you set your groceries down someone could came inside.
once inside please just set the bag at the door or just simply turn around close lock the door then proceed on we women must be mindful 24/7
Great shopping ❤❤proud of young lady grown so Beautiful
I really love the way you are so independent, much love from Kenya, always in love with your channel and your mum's channel too
Technically inspiring. Care to share the camera 🎥 which you use and how it moves when you’re out and about, especially the aisle shots. Important, impressive and inspired. ❤😂❤
Great job being so far from home which means that you are a very, very, very responsible daughter. Keep up the great job! Amen

I like watching her grow up 💕🥹 giving grown-ish vibes
Good for you trying to be thrifty. It was a joy joining you doing your food shopping. You are so sensible young lady 💕
Another country?
viviandavenport3935 she’s in California, she’s shopping in a grocery in the local Koreatown.
Omg your so responsible and independent I hope to be like you some day hope you enjoy the rest of your college days girly love ya😘
So proud of you! If you ever need help in the bay I’m here (hope that did not sound creepy)😂 mom of 2 -grandma of 4 who knows what is like to worry about kids away from home❤ also a braider
You’re so intelligent I love watching you❤ keep up the great work, it gets easier!
Loving the videos keep them coming congratulations on 100k subscribers.❤
A tip for grocery budget next timr you go grocery shopping buy the cheapest thing you see that way you have for money left over
You look radiant and beautiful! Haven’t had Korean food before, but it’s on my list.
The video QUALITY is everything
Congratulations on your languages! Now work on your budget. You will do well. First time shopping alone you will go over. Now you can make the adjustments. Cabbage is called Napa ...Chinese. Stay in the light & love. ❤love❤
So proud of you and to continue to see mature and continue to grow is amazing. Blessings luv😊
Hello Amyah. You did good job shopping. Can't wait to see what you'll make with the food.
Advice :Next time just budget the food you already have take pictures before going to the store and just get what you know you can live off of before buying. No more distractions and don't overspend. Hope this helps. ❤the vlogs and learning about your life as a college student. Great job editing.🎉
Note to self: Worry about yourself.
Budgeting 😂 now I’m no pro but I make a list of what I’d like to eat for the week and ration what ingredients overlap and focus on buying those first before going to the snack aisle 😅
Congratulations on 100k ❤❤
my favorite video
More to come!
Never go grocery shopping when you’re hungry. You will over shop. A list done before shopping will help you get what you need. Add the total on your calculator as you put each item in your cart to make sure you do not go over budget.
Love Seeing you grow up and be a responsible, smart beautiful young lady 😊❤ ... Keep doing great things
It has happened to us all and at different times in our life too. Practice makes perfect. You will get it down.
Always eat before you go shopping. Stick to your shopping list. Scan items for prices if you can. Try stores that carry Korean products. Walmart carries all of that. So price comparisons online before you go shopping. Overall you did well. Please be careful.❤
Unfortunately, there are no close walmarts to Berkeley. Maybe if she had a car.
This is a great video for students who really are broke and not pretending to be.
Haven't had Korean food but plan to try it. You and your family have inspired me watching you prepare and eat it.😉🥰
