Thank you for featuring this. More people deserve to know about this. It's so underground and underrated. It needs to be shared more too the world.

So thrilled that you guys did this book. Destroyer Duck is mostly considered a historical footnote at this point, but it's so much fun. I know he's a writer and not a cartoonist, so he doesn't necessarily fit the Cartoonist Kayfabe mandate. But I'd love it if y'all could cover more Steve Gerber. I feel like he's forgotten now, but the guy did so much great work. Man-Thing, Omega The Unknown, The Defenders, Hard Time, and of course Howard The Duck have all aged so well. In particular, I'd love to hear you guys break down the insanity of Howard 16.

They were both working on the Thundarr series and Alcala was there, too, inking and coloring the stunning presentation boards Kirby was doing at Ruby-Spears. From time to time there is talk of someone doing a big art book of all that stuff: characters, vehicles and series proposals, just roaring out of Kirby's pencil. All that I've seen is that trading card set Jack Kirby: the Unpublished Archives from the 90's. with some non-Kirby art, but mostly the full color boards by Kirby and Alcala.

Wasn’t expecting this one, I’m glad you reviewed it, Destroyer Duck is a fun series, keep the Kirby coming. Like The King would say “don’t ask just buy it”

I remember hunting this book down for the Groo appearance not realizing in hindsight how amazing Kirby’s story was.

Jim, my good man, I just got Street Angel after finding the Free Comic Day- Street Angel's Dog stashed.
Damn man... now I have to have everything of yours.
And Ed, I have all your work already and every Red Room I don't have is on order or pre-orders.
It sold completely out everywhere around my area (Charlotte) in a hot minute. Thank you for your work. You got me back into comics after 20yrs.
Never thought I would ever buy another X-Men comic...but i did... first since the 80's... LoL

Great video about a comic I'd never heard of before. Howard the Duck was reprinted in Marvel's British comics over here on the other side of the Pond. It was a great, literate, satirical strip which I still remember very fondly. Too bad that film wrecked it. I've also friends who were fans of Groo the Wanderer. So great to see all these awesome talents in one comic.

The combination of Kirby and Alcala does remind me of underground art, but merged with a Golden Age Kirby/Simon style. It’s a surreal mix.

50 cent shops are hard to come by in Michigan. Most shops around me, not all, but most are more concerned about selling funko pops than selling comics, and when the do have comics, it's mostly just Marvel and DC. There was even a shop that flat out told me they don't carry independent or local comics.

Intense series out of Howard the Duck creator Steve Gerber as an angrier soapbox out of Marvel.
This early 80s series staked on social commentary and current events quicker than “woke” humor now and Duckman from the 90s

When was this in relation to Captain Victory and DC’s Super Powers?

After Captain Victory, before Super Powers, IIRC.
