Classic example that it’s all in the shells, heads, tuning, and proper technique. Really no muffling needed. You did everything right with what you have, and it sounds AMAZING 👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽
Totally smooth. Cool if you also had drum covers that had the same clear close foot cam view a corner screen simultaneously. The close up and clarity of your cams are stellar 👌
Very nice to see and hear this video Great sound in the earbuds JBL. Thank you for sharing this with us Similar set up to what I was doing recently regards to double bass drums and cymbals.
hey brother, I thought I'd replied to you. Thanx and was gonna let you know that I've dabbled in Kettlebells. They're a beast workout! I learned alot from watching Pavel Tsatsouline's vids as well as others. I've got pairs of 18s thru 44s, a 53 and a 70. I need to start working w/ them again! Get ups are the best
@JeffWald yes! Pavel has moved on with his updated education thru his company Strong 1st. Check it out! Yeah I live getups. My favorite moves are overhead presses and carries
@@DeathswingKettlebellthe KB mile! yeah man, those get brutal. They seem simple but by the time you get halfway... ugh! Longest I did was with the 53, probably 1.5 miles. Sore for days!
Wonderful grooves. I've been slavishly fitting coated heads to snare drums a very long time indeed, and as I recently discovered the glory of single ply ambs on toms i thought I'd try the snare too. THAT is the sound I've always been looking for but for me as a hard hitter the black dots are the best (very slight) compromise. Still, my new EMAD 2 on the kick will last years. But THEN it will get this!
Great sounding (and looking) kit! A real beauty. My P3 Black Dot has been on order for awhile, can't wait! Love the arcade machine as well, I have some Arcade 1up and iiRcade machines myself! Regards from Canada from a fellow Pearl and big Rush fan.
Thanx Tyson! I love the arcade! Got it last year and am very happy with it. I've seen the 1up name but had already gotten the Legends Ultimate. I'm an 80s kid so its so fun to go back and play the early 80s classics. I've even got a quarter sitting by the power button!
Thanks for noticing Julio! Totally ripped that off from Gadd. I haven't perfected it and can't do much more than that but it actually really helps me solidify the groove to be able to heel and toe
Wow. The difference is actually audible through my phones speakers. Curious if the black dots have the same effect on the toms as well. Also, Jeff, I have to say you have one of the most beautiful kits on UA-cam!!! Amazing
Thanx so much brother! That's cool that you could even tell with your phone! That's what blew me away - same tuning as the EQ3 - didn't touch the effects and it was a major difference. That's why I wanted to put that A/B comparison in here. I'm not sure how to describe the difference on the toms, its noticeable put not in the same way as the kicks
The old reliable Remo C.S. Dots are my favorites. Smooth White or Coated with a white dot underneath. If I want more dampening, I switch to Emperors coated. Tuning is Everything ! I thought I was decent at tuning. Tune-Bot changed the game. With their charts/calculator and UA-cam videos. My set has NEVER sounded so good. Band members noticed immediately. With tuning you can make your drums ring long or short.(no gels needed) and maintain the exact same note. "I may not always sound like a pro. But, my drum set does". Lol
I'm still digging them. I tuned the main one up alittle higher to get more tone - I'm gonna start experimenting w/ that. And yep - I'm not a fan of gels - I don't use any at all - just wide open!
Awesome video. At the beginning.... Is that one of your ear plugs on the floor? Blue in color, close to you right foot? Thanks for the comparison. I wish I seen this before I bought new kick heads.
Haha, guilty as charged! Usually I Loop them over the floor tom lugs so they're easy to grab but didn't realize till after I had put the entire video together that that one was on the floor so I said oh well, screw it. Yeah I'm really happy with the heads. I got the falams this past week and it makes a very slight almost unnoticeable difference, but the durability is what I'm after
I really like your set up I'm jealous im still hoping to come across a gong drum. however I picked up a 60-80" not sure tbh Ludwig concert bass drum I picked up for 20$ it's a beauty. on top of looking cool the man myth and legend billy Cobham I'm pretty sure used these with the mahavishnu orchestra
Wow man! That would be quite a classic piece if it was Billy's! Gong drums are alot of fun, I call mine "the subwoofer". You'll have a blast w/ that thing
I like the sound of EQ3 more because of soft or fat attack. PS3 black dot has more low end but start of the tone is more "stiff" and a lot of drummers like it.
I think so. Even with just a little bit of playing I could see a. slight indention in the black dot. Granted, I don't tour, I just play here, but its such a cheap option that will help extend the life and I did an A-B comparison, it gives it a slight extra "tick"/"focus". It didn't hurt the sound at all
Barely - same as I've always done - just a hand towel folded into a black pillow case and touching only the batter head, nothing touches the front head
Great playing. I'd get that Black dot off quick though. The PS 3 w/o the dot is way better sounding. The Black dot loses all mid range "Beater on head" sound. Even without effects the Black dot loses all projection. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. Great snare and tom sounds!
I'm digging them still. In the studio I can hear a slight bit more punch in playback. I'll keep using them til I get tired of it or find something else I like. Thanx for watching David!
I'm not so sure about that. Much of what you're describing depends on the room. Plus if the kit is miced up it makes no difference. If behind the kit sound is important PS3 Black Dots are absolutely amazing! Buy again the room can "give back" that midrange response depending on the acoustics. I noticed no degrade in the presence region going from PS3 to Black Dot PS3.
I use nickel size metal washers and wood beaters on these heads . I use a good 3m sticky two sided tape under the washer . If too much click I might damp the washer with a bit of gorilla tape . Also with these heads I sometime hit some holes just off the extra dampner .... seems to change the feel usually at 10 and 2 oclock.... I use a sharp skewer hole not even bb size
interesting! Currently w/ the new kit (just posted it) I'm back on the stock clear remo PS3 that comes on Masters & MW kits & for the past few weeks I went back to the stock MW that came on the red kit. I may have to experiment w your idea when I switch back again at some point
Classic example that it’s all in the shells, heads, tuning, and proper technique. Really no muffling needed. You did everything right with what you have, and it sounds AMAZING 👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽
Thanx Nicholas! I just went back and watched part of this again. I'm still loving these heads over a year later. Thanx for commenting!
Totally smooth. Cool if you also had drum covers that had the same clear close foot cam view a corner screen simultaneously. The close up and clarity of your cams are stellar 👌
Thanks! Actually I do! Pretty much everything this year has a small foot cam in the bottom right corner.
Listening to your stuff with my 7506 headphones is awesome and I love your playing.
right on, thanx so much! what brand are 7506s?
Very nice to see and hear this video
Great sound in the earbuds JBL.

Similar set up to what I was doing recently regards to double bass drums and cymbals.
Thanx Austin! Glad it sounded good in the ears, I'm always striving to make sure it does so I appreciate the feedback
That technique at 1:48.... durm pedal,.... LOVE IT
Thanx! I totally ripped that from Gadd. Its fun, you should try and work it up. Heel is on the downbeats and the toe catches the ups
My goodness these have amazing thud sounds.

@JeffWald good work dude! Try holding tiny bit of water in your mouth to force breathe thru your nose.... you'll hate yourself hahahaha
@DeathswingKettlebell hahaha oh man... I think I'll work up to that w/ the 18s first - it's been a few years 😀

Fantastic - thank you! Just ordered.
They're great!

The Base is Amazing
And again, amazing sounding drums! 🔥 I really like the sound of the PS3 BD heads. Just the right amount of high frequency kick and deep, big low end.
Thanx so much my brother! I was surprised at how much of a difference they made. I thought the kicks sounded good already but wow, so much better now
Power stroke black dots really can hear it through my head phones really great sounding bass drum head.
Thanx Ralph, I'm still loving them
That triple stroke on the pedal is smooooooth
Thanks for noticing Julio! Totally ripped that off from Gadd. I haven't perfected it and can't do much more than that but it actually really helps me solidify the groove to be able to heel and toe
Kit reminds me of Suchermann, playing reminds me of Weckl and approach reminds me of Steve Smith. Fluent and tasteful!
Thanx! The Weck & SS were two of my major influences in the 80s/90s!
Wow. The difference is actually audible through my phones speakers. Curious if the black dots have the same effect on the toms as well. Also, Jeff, I have to say you have one of the most beautiful kits on UA-cam!!! Amazing

I call them pedal pads. Great video. I like black dots and pinstripe.
Yeah I forget. I'm really digging these
I like the sound of EQ3 more because of soft or fat attack. PS3 black dot has more low end but start of the tone is more "stiff" and a lot of drummers like it.
I like both and its fun rotating them, just seeing (hearing) a difference every once in a while
Nice do you think the falam patch is still even needed being the dots there?
I think so. Even with just a little bit of playing I could see a. slight indention in the black dot. Granted, I don't tour, I just play here, but its such a cheap option that will help extend the life and I did an A-B comparison, it gives it a slight extra "tick"/"focus". definitely extra protection needed my wood beaters slam through those store bought ones hence the metal washer....
Killer drumming. To me the Remo P3 black dot sounds mean.
I have to agree. Kicks always sound great on play back, even with no effects
hello jeff you put muffling into the kick?

hahaha, gotta love playing bare foot!

cymbal?
Turkish Cymbals. Very good line!
