Hi, I have an 6t40 generation 3, no forward gear, no error codes, only reverse working. Oil is dark brown but has normal oil smell. Can it be the valve body or tcm ?
I dont know if you monitor this channel but I'm doing a gen 3 6t45 and i have the rebuild kit im wondering if im supposed to scrape the gasket meterial off the separator plate because the kit came with just the paper gasket with no metal backing. I almost dont even want to replace it because scraping that gasket off just seems like a bad idea
Valentin Ivanov I use a fine stone to flat sand. The check balls seal off circuits so the oil gets directed correctly. The check balls have to be in there.
Hello I am from turkey. I have a vehicle with a 6t40 transmission. my problem is, there is a knock when passing from 2 to 3. We adapt, then it knocks as it goes from 3 to 4. This situation changes with each adaptation. We renewed the solenoid valve body, but the part in the video did not change. only the solenoids have been changed. But the problem still exists. Could the part in the video cause such a problem? thanks a lot.
@@GaryFerraro There was no code before and after the repair. We changed the solenoid valves (with tcm unit) due to knocking, but the problem still persists.
@@GaryFerraro yes, I mean knocking, transmission slippage. That is, the gear changes, but there is a space in the gear shift and we feel a knock. In addition, we have never been able to complete the adaptation. When we want to adapt, it interrupts the adaptation.

Hi, I have a 2011 Cruze with a bad gen 1 6t40, no reverse, 3rd, or 5th. Is it possible to make a gen 2 6t40 from a 2013 cruze work in this car? Possible to swap my gen 1 valve body and tcm/solenoid unit into the gen 2 transmission? thanks
I swapped in 2 transmissions now. First was bad from junk yard. This one is in and I swapped in the valve body and tcm. And I have no codes but no reverse right now. And haven’t taken for a drive but I’m assuming it is because of the gen 1 valve body in gen 2 trans. I replace all my shift solenoids with tested ones and still the same.
The only info I found was on the Cruze forum with a senior member stating he has heard its possible but never seen it successfully done. I am considering digging into my trans and seeing if it was the 3-5-R wave plate that came apart as it sounds like this is the most common failure. It appears sonnax makes a 3-5-R drum saver kit with a modified wave plate to fix it if the damages aren't too severe.
Mine is a 2011 Cruze (gen 1 6t40) and I have access to a 2013 Cruze trans (gen 2 6t40) Or my brother has a 2011 malibu transmission if I can talk him out of it, I'm assuming that one would be a gen 1.
Hello Gary , my 2011Buick LaCrosse xl 2.4 transmission 3-5 n reverse went out . I had the tcm replaced with solenoids . Now it won’t take the reprogram. Do I need to change out the valve body like you did in the video? Any response is extremely helpful thanks
After attempting to remove the MLPS and move car, it was still just revving and going nowhere. I tried cleaning the valve body and starting car again, was getting code for no transmission communication, tried pulling the MLPS again and battery to try resetting and now car wont even turn over. Did I somehow screw up the TCM/ECM? I think I'm gonna chock this one up as a loss and get rid of it.
hey gary first time really trying to fig out whats going on with trans 2010 malibu if i reset codes it will go into gear and take of then 25 to 50 feet code pops up car goes into neutral ive not ran the codes yet just bought the car could that be the tcm

Thanks for posting, I am about to take my first crack at an automatic trans and the 6T40 videos are great insight. 2 questions on this one: I believe you called it the Techm(?) It looked like the TCM and solenoid assembly. Is this a standard replacement item on the 6T40 or what dictates replace or reuse? I am also curious about the reprograming statement, does the dealer have to do this or is it something that I can do with a scanner. I have found this assembly at my local vendor, about $360, would rather not replace if not necessary, but do not want to go back for repeat of work either.
I always replace them as part of rebuild procedure, they do give problems. The one at your local vendor, who's is the maker of the Tehcm(tcm) is it OE or Doorman?
Still a little concerned about reprogramming capabilities (not sure if my scanner is up to this, still looking). Is replacing the solenoids a reasonable option as opposed to whole assembly?
@@GaryFerraro It does not say in description, I do not think I have bought an ECM in the last 10 years that did not require programming. One of those things that the frequency of needing has made me buy the interface to do this.
Replaced tehcm, 4qt came out 4 went back in, can drive for ten minutes until warm then I have nothing at all no gears just act like its in neuter all, every now and again you can feel it slip but will go right back to nothing. Turn the car off and back on works perfect for a minute or two then nothing again. Throwing no codes, fixed the original solenoid codes with new tehcm then this started. Any thoughts
Gary Ferraro not even a spec a metal in two fluid changes since new tehcm, I'm assuming it's all in the filter but also hoping for a cheap option. For a rebuild kit where do you recommend getting one, confident in doing the job just want to make sure I get a kit that includes everything filter and all the sensors etc and will reuse my new tehcm. Since the tehcm is already programmed I shouldn't need to worry bout that when I'm done right. Can I get parts thru you some how so you can benefit from giving me great info?
Man thanks for the quick reply! We are a used car lot and took it on trade. I never drove it long enough to throw code? I did see that the shift timing would correlate with the weird shifts. I pulled the solenoid body off and all the solenoid screens look good etc. Feels like a valve body issue but my trans parts house has told me their solenoid kit rebuild or something like that? It has probably been 5 years since I've been into a trans kinda of fun.....well if I fix it.
