For the new comers coming in because of PS Plus, Fuse Ushi is pretty good for survivability early on. Extra 200 health, and level spirit to 11 and you heal when you gather amrita. A decent stand-in til you get some of the other spirits
I like Fuse-Ushi because he allows me to regain health through amrita, and because his talisman attacks knocks down Shima Sakon and the Samurai from Sawayama consistently, allowing for a downward-stab attack (you eat away 50% health of Shima using 3 Talismans, and 50% health of Samurai using 6 Talismans). I also like the rabbit because he makes me pretty fast and charges quickly, it was very useful against Ishida Mitsunari.
I'm surprised enko is not on here. Jos abilities is awesome. If you have the guardian talismans to summon them for special abilities enko destroys everything

There is so such thing as "trash spirits." Just because the others do not fit your own builds does not mean they lack a purpose. Obviously some are far better for certain builds and some are more all around. That being said, yes Tengen is by the far the best and most versatile spirit in the game. Doesn't make the others trash but does limit the amount of builds that could be considered viable while using less popular spirits in general.
Suzaku activates living weapon whenever you die, which if you have high spirit your body stat suffers, so you die more, then once it activates you can neck 1 or 2 elixirs and fully recover before it even finishes so you're not left with 1hp and can try again from the top way before it even finishes. How is that not notable?
I started playing this game recently because it's free with ps plus and I immediately went for kato, mainly because I like doggos =w= but also badass and adorable so that's always a good combo
Great video! Just maxed all of my armor and weapon to 160 +10 for Susano, so going to start farming for Mastodon Axe build soon. I'd say side waifu would be in the final DLC. Gotta keep the players wanting dat dank spirit. I think Nioh is going take a hard right turn and crash into a sign that reads "Anime stuff that makes you feel slightly uncomfortable" You know it's true. I'd like to see 4 to 8 new Yokai, 2 new weapons and 3-4 new spirits. As for regions I think 1/3 of the DLC will be in a old region and the last 2/3 will be in a new one.
I used the bull (fuse-ushi) a lot with Guardian Spirit Talisman as he charge runs in a straight line knocking almost every one including boss and does good damage allowing me to run charge after. Really super useful. Haven't tried on NG+ though
i hope some of the underused spirits get a buff or change in effect. Spirits are probably my favorite part in this game, design is amazing, and i like the lore behind them
I went with Kusarigama, and the first set I equipped was Kanbei's Strategist set, along with Mizuchi. And I kept them both on for like, 4 regions until I noticed that the gear got underleveled and I'm getting oneshot by everything, also Mizuchi's bonuses aren't very helpful anymore. I'd keep Mizuchi for longer if only it had some bonuses that helped in battle. I hate using Kato because I think it's overrated, but it's basically the best spirit for every melee build. It's bonuses are too good to pass up, and if you don't use Kato you're missing out. I really hate that, I like the look of Isonade, Blue Dragon, Mizuchi, Izuna, Narikama Tanuki, Nine Tails way more than I like the look of what is literally just a fire wolf (there is no animal more overrated than the wolves, like honestly, who'd prefer a wolf over a SHARK or a DRAGON?) but unfortunately it's what it is. If Blue Dragon's CCD bonus was consistent and not just on full health (I somehow never manage to stay full health due to walking into fires or whatever and don't want to waste elixirs) I'd consider switching to Blue Dragon, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of Kato's consistent bonuses for bonuses that are situational, and will probably most of the time stay inactive. I kinda have a love-hate relationship with Kato. I swear if it's bonuses was on any other spirit, I'd switch immediately. Kara-Jishi does not have the Ki Regen buff unfortunately, and I feel the absence of it very clearly when I unequip Kato. Also, my weapon is Shiranui, and it has a 50% fire bonus, so I'm missing out on some big damage if I don't use a fire-type living weapon.
Paired Raiken also has excellent Living Weapon stats. No mention of Yata-Garasu for unlimited ammo? Shame, it also has decent Living Weapon ability. Then there's LOOT BUNNY. I think the latter two may just be niche enough though. Also, pronunciation notes: The G in Tengen is a hard G like in Guard, not soft as in General. Whoever told you to pronounce G like J in a Japanese word is woefully mistaken. Japanese is generally very consistent when it comes to vowel and consonant sounds, the wonky bit is knowing which syllables to stress, which depends on the word. Most people will simply recommend stressing none of the syllables if you're not sure. G is always a hard G as in Guard or Good. There's no soft G in Japanese, they use J for that. A is always a soft A as in All. Leave off the "w," it's just "ah" The "ay" sound we'd use as long a is already covered by E. iprc.soest.hawaii.edu/users/furue/jp-pron.html
It depends on your style. For me I like to to depend on my skill rather than depending on living weapon. The best guardian spirit in my opinion is Shima Sakon's Lion, Atlas bear but you need heavy armor to deal massive damage because it depends on how much ki you use, and Paried Raiken.
*Kato is the best starting spirit* Nah, that's Isonade. Later on you wont use it, but that heal and enemy radar will reduce your death count by more than half.
It's better to learn to survive without enemy radar. In addition, if you choose any guardian spirit other than Kato at the beginning, you won't get Kato until the second region, at which point Paired Raiken are arguably better than Kato for anything but stats (their guardian spirit talisman attack easily electrifies enemies and their living weapon lasts longer and recharges faster than Kato's).
Nice idea, wonder if Team Ninja would think that to begin with though. Would be nice to lvl up further as well, like lv50 or something being the new max.
THIS POST WAS MADE BY THE ODACHI GANG Usura Hicho is a good newbie friendly pick since the Amrita gauge rate is A+ (Spam LW through levels, get it back fast if dying often to a boss). SA Ki damage and Evasion Ki damage, with a Water weapon you get damage boost too! It's a better Daiba Washi for slower weapons Also, Enko is probably the best Guardian for Odachi. +30% extra grapple damage, SA damage +15%, +25 Break, SA Ki reduction 13%. Extra fire damage which is a nice bonus if using Guardian talismans and bombs. (and a fire weapon of course). It's perfect!

rank up? don't know what that means. your lvl isn't reset in ng+, lv100 is probably the normal lvl going into ng+, your good to go. you'll get better gear and lvl faster in ng+ anyways.
I guess it depends on your play style. Bunny did not make your list yet I've been using it since it because available and never changed. Ninjutsu power buff is amazing and since I'm using my ninjutsu a lot to deal damage I find it the best spirit for ninjutsu build. If you're using kunai/shuriken a lot bunny is amazing. With mystic art that increases your thrown items damage and bunny my kunai and shuriken deal so much damage I barely have to use my weapon 😂
That's too niche of a spirit/setup. For general builds the bunny sucks other than luck, and even then spirits like daiba or itokuri provide drop rate bonuses in addition to luck. Bunny is only good in throwing builds, which are niche already. This list is more general spirits that can apply to any build. Cool you found it appealing though.

They WERE niche, their damage was whatever compared to good builds who could 1-2 shot bosses, they didn't really see play until about 1-2 weeks before dlc, and mostly since people were bored of usual builds. MOST people used melee builds, hence ninja/magic, were niche. Post DLC is a different story, but my comment and vid were made before that.
Release of patch 1.06 doesn't equal "since beginning of the game", contradicting yourself. People "tried" that playstyle, doesn't mean they were good until patch 1.06. Meaning most people weren't using them, especially elemental shot build which would be worse than ninja both in output and popularity. Also you seem to be taking things personal guy? "childs play"? wut? Are you saying thrown wpns is any different? LOL It's as spammy as any spam build, there's nothing special about it. You do the same, put on iga set, get 99 dex, get gear stats right, and start chucking. It's not some rocket science, it's actually one of the easier builds to make and at a lower lvl. Most of these "hybrid" ninja builds are just spamming kusa blade spin for mobs anyway till they get to the boss, from what I've seen. They were not more popular than most melee builds, they still aren't, majority of people who played the game used melee builds, and still are. mizushi primary + saosire secondary = 30% more amrita (+ yasakani magatama that gives + 30% more amrita when in living weapon) is the setup I'm currently using while going through way of the strong

Q: how does turtle special effect ( no guard break while onmyo magic is active) work, is it some of the onmyos? cause I have tried some and did not work.
Unsure. if it doesn't prevent you from getting interrupted when casting magic, then it prevents your guard from breaking when you guard if you have onmyo magic active.
I tried it. If you're mid-cast of an onmyo magic spell, an enemy hitting you wont stop you from finishing the cast, whereas if you dont have that spirit and are mid-cast, any damage done to you will stop you from casting.
In most games guard-break refers to not staggering when hit, so it's inline with the majority of games. The problem is this game ALSO has the other version of guard-break (when you continually hit a blocking enemy till the point he is 'out of ki') so the term is equivocated, and therefore confusing haha.
Nice explanation. in nioh I found alot of things not explained well even if you press option for more info, so you only have to try. and one more thing, I think it helps when you attack too not only casting stuff.
No, depends on the map/difficulty. 1st playthrough will be ng, then there's additional difficulties afterwards sorta like ng+, which is where builds become more available since your characters stats will be higher at that point from leveling.
Not sure if all spirits can do it but tengen kujaku can change elemental damage between fire, water, earth, lightning, poison etc by continually pushing summon living weapon button combo (triangle and circle button on ps4). Very useful when fighting bosses like buzu when you want fire on your weapon but got something else when summoning the living weapon.
I only picked Kato because that's what I had in the demo and because fire is badass. But now that I'm deep in the game I had to look up a video seeing what's the best spirit lol.
also the max after way of the strong/demon is lv 50 and if you pair him with izuna's close combat ki reduction your ki recovery speed gets buffed even more
I used the best bird for a long time, but later switched to the purple raccoon, just for variaty's sake. As second spirit I have the lightning bunny. Mainly because of the ninjutsu power it gives. It works for me.
Enko is notable for cheese as well, it's AOE is fairly large, if oddly delayed, and sets enemies on fire in addition to knocking them down. It is blockable however and requires some prediction and skill to successfully knock your opponents over, and a bit of luck.
Its viable for sure, but doesn't offer anything that you would take over daiba/mizuchi, where amrita+gold/equipment+luck is more beneficial towards the reason you're cheesing. Enko also gives grapple, which contradicts what you're using talismans for (you'd want final blow damage).
Bull is a beast in LW. I use that and an earth axe in ng+ and destroy bosses. It's passive stats aren't great but I do like the life recovery for amrita gain. In terms of lw it's best for me.
I have enko as his stats goes with my build. And as a back up I have the turtle. Tanuki. I played using high stance and enko stats add alot to my high stance play style
Paired Raiken at average? This must be a joke. If an enemy has a purple stamina bar, it’s considered a demon (yokai) when it comes to stats. Raiken gives 15% damage bonus with all damage sources as a passive making it one of the best endgame spirits. Especially for endgame content. Not the best living weapon, but it’s passive makes it so players can 1 hit new game plus bosses with no gear effort.

I think you're making a mistake leaving out Enko. It has no irrelevant stats and it's uniquely good at guard breaking human bosses and revenants. It's at least average.
was thinking of enko, but would mean I would have to make the spirit rows smaller to fit it in. Even than, enko is really only adding break, strong attack damage is too specific, and final blows are better than grapples. I wouldn't replace any of the average spirits for it, so it was left out.
As a shinobi player, I feel kind of glued to Aya-komori. However I also love Itokuri. I want the giant centipede just for the fact that it's a f*cking centipede and am eternally depressed there's no snake spirit. Eternally. Depressed. Need snek.
I disagree I say fuse-ushi is way better and it's stats is a lot better by country mile and recovery is B+ and attack enhancement is 15.0% and the damage this guardian spirit does is ridiculously strong

The bull saw me through, especially the guardian spirt attack tailsman. Flawed most enemies, run in and boom big damage.

I normally use Tengen Kujaku as primary for going through missions and either Karajishi or Kato as secondary for bosses.

Japanese is generally very consistent when it comes to vowel and consonant sounds, the wonky bit is knowing which syllables to stress, which depends on the word. Most people will simply recommend stressing none of the syllables if you're not sure.
G is always a hard G as in Guard or Good. There's no soft G in Japanese, they use J for that.
A is always a soft A as in All. Leave off the "w," it's just "ah"
The "ay" sound we'd use as long a is already covered by E.

It depends on your style. For me I like to to depend on my skill rather than depending on living weapon. The best guardian spirit in my opinion is Shima Sakon's Lion, Atlas bear but you need heavy armor to deal massive damage because it depends on how much ki you use, and Paried Raiken.

Nah, that's Isonade. Later on you wont use it, but that heal and enemy radar will reduce your death count by more than half.
Diaba washi + Guardian Talismans for the win. Its like playing the game on easy mode.
It's better to learn to survive without enemy radar. In addition, if you choose any guardian spirit other than Kato at the beginning, you won't get Kato until the second region, at which point Paired Raiken are arguably better than Kato for anything but stats (their guardian spirit talisman attack easily electrifies enemies and their living weapon lasts longer and recharges faster than Kato's).
Maybe I'm just grasping at straws but does anyone else think that guardian spirits are going to get more perks in dlc since there's 5 more slots.

Usura Hicho is a good newbie friendly pick since the Amrita gauge rate is A+ (Spam LW through levels, get it back fast if dying often to a boss). SA Ki damage and Evasion Ki damage, with a Water weapon you get damage boost too! It's a better Daiba Washi for slower weapons
Also, Enko is probably the best Guardian for Odachi. +30% extra grapple damage, SA damage +15%, +25 Break, SA Ki reduction 13%. Extra fire damage which is a nice bonus if using Guardian talismans and bombs. (and a fire weapon of course). It's perfect!
@PWARGaming what would you suggest to take on the abyss?(i know for each crucible boss you get you will mix and match according to the bosses weakness) but for clearing out the status effect floors what the viable combi?
Kato is strong early game but definitely not worth using if u have enko, that spirit rips threw hp on bosses and it's what I use rather than Kato now.

rank up? don't know what that means. your lvl isn't reset in ng+, lv100 is probably the normal lvl going into ng+, your good to go. you'll get better gear and lvl faster in ng+ anyways.

I guess it depends on your play style. Bunny did not make your list yet I've been using it since it because available and never changed. Ninjutsu power buff is amazing and since I'm using my ninjutsu a lot to deal damage I find it the best spirit for ninjutsu build. If you're using kunai/shuriken a lot bunny is amazing. With mystic art that increases your thrown items damage and bunny my kunai and shuriken deal so much damage I barely have to use my weapon 😂
That's too niche of a spirit/setup. For general builds the bunny sucks other than luck, and even then spirits like daiba or itokuri provide drop rate bonuses in addition to luck. Bunny is only good in throwing builds, which are niche already. This list is more general spirits that can apply to any build. Cool you found it appealing though.
arrogant? lolwut? They WERE niche, their damage was whatever compared to good builds who could 1-2 shot bosses, they didn't really see play until about 1-2 weeks before dlc, and mostly since people were bored of usual builds. MOST people used melee builds, hence ninja/magic, were niche. Post DLC is a different story, but my comment and vid were made before that.
Release of patch 1.06 doesn't equal "since beginning of the game", contradicting yourself. People "tried" that playstyle, doesn't mean they were good until patch 1.06. Meaning most people weren't using them, especially elemental shot build which would be worse than ninja both in output and popularity. Also you seem to be taking things personal guy? "childs play"? wut? Are you saying thrown wpns is any different? LOL It's as spammy as any spam build, there's nothing special about it. You do the same, put on iga set, get 99 dex, get gear stats right, and start chucking. It's not some rocket science, it's actually one of the easier builds to make and at a lower lvl. Most of these "hybrid" ninja builds are just spamming kusa blade spin for mobs anyway till they get to the boss, from what I've seen.

They were not more popular than most melee builds, they still aren't, majority of people who played the game used melee builds, and still are. Because it's not worth using just for that, and there are way better ways to get high defense rather than waisting a guardian spirit slot on shin roku.

mizushi primary + saosire secondary = 30% more amrita (+ yasakani magatama that gives + 30% more amrita when in living weapon) is the setup I'm currently using while going through way of the strong
I use Suzaku for the Active living weapon (no life) perk. Just Incase i die
The primary time when I've found Enko to be useful is when you're part of the takeda clan, as at that point it does even more damage than Kato.

Q: how does turtle special effect ( no guard break while onmyo magic is active) work, is it some of the onmyos?

Unsure. if it doesn't prevent you from getting interrupted when casting magic, then it prevents your guard from breaking when you guard if you have onmyo magic active.
I tried it.
If you're mid-cast of an onmyo magic spell, an enemy hitting you wont stop you from finishing the cast, whereas if you dont have that spirit and are mid-cast, any damage done to you will stop you from casting.
so guarding does not have anything to do with it °_°
In most games guard-break refers to not staggering when hit, so it's inline with the majority of games. The problem is this game ALSO has the other version of guard-break (when you continually hit a blocking enemy till the point he is 'out of ki') so the term is equivocated, and therefore confusing haha.

No, depends on the map/difficulty. 1st playthrough will be ng, then there's additional difficulties afterwards sorta like ng+, which is where builds become more available since your characters stats will be higher at that point from leveling.

Atlas Bear average? With the guardian Spirit talisman he's top 3 easily. He takes down your enemy and you can final blown him right away.

Not sure if all spirits can do it but tengen kujaku can change elemental damage between fire, water, earth, lightning, poison etc by continually pushing summon living weapon button combo (triangle and circle button on ps4). Very useful when fighting bosses like buzu when you want fire on your weapon but got something else when summoning the living weapon.
Isonade’s spirit summon is great doing water damage and overall has good stats 😕 sad it wasn’t even mentioned

I only picked Kato because that's what I had in the demo and because fire is badass. But now that I'm deep in the game I had to look up a video seeing what's the best spirit lol.

Kato can be used for the entirety of your playthrough, if you plan to make builds/multiple playthrough, then perhaps try the other spirits for fun :)

Fuse ushi Was broken to its core. Easyly in top 3. Every human Boss was a total joke with this spirit.
The 3 GS I mainly see when I play online are Suzaku, Tengen Kujaku and Kato, close 4th is probably Aya-komori.
I used the best bird for a long time, but later switched to the purple raccoon, just for variaty's sake. As second spirit I have the lightning bunny. Mainly because of the ninjutsu power it gives. It works for me.

Enko is notable for cheese as well, it's AOE is fairly large, if oddly delayed, and sets enemies on fire in addition to knocking them down. It is blockable however and requires some prediction and skill to successfully knock your opponents over, and a bit of luck.
Its viable for sure, but doesn't offer anything that you would take over daiba/mizuchi, where amrita+gold/equipment+luck is more beneficial towards the reason you're cheesing. Enko also gives grapple, which contradicts what you're using talismans for (you'd want final blow damage).
Bull is a beast in LW. I use that and an earth axe in ng+ and destroy bosses. It's passive stats aren't great but I do like the life recovery for amrita gain. In terms of lw it's best for me.
How is bear average? When the attack enhancement is higher than every guardian on this list.
Tbh i really like Mizuchi he reminds me of hanzos ult from overwatch alot.

I have enko as his stats goes with my build. And as a back up I have the turtle. Tanuki. I played using high stance and enko stats add alot to my high stance play style
itokuri paired with saorsie both at 40 gets you a nice 91 luck, still utility but a great farm strat.

Have you done a side mission for obtaining them? It was in the first or second region, I think.
I was using suzaku since the time I got it. Then I switched to the peacock and kato once I got quick change scroll.
Paired Raiken at average? This must be a joke. If an enemy has a purple stamina bar, it’s considered a demon (yokai) when it comes to stats. Raiken gives 15% damage bonus with all damage sources as a passive making it one of the best endgame spirits. Especially for endgame content. Not the best living weapon, but it’s passive makes it so players can 1 hit new game plus bosses with no gear effort.

I think you're making a mistake leaving out Enko. It has no irrelevant stats and it's uniquely good at guard breaking human bosses and revenants. It's at least average.
was thinking of enko, but would mean I would have to make the spirit rows smaller to fit it in. Even than, enko is really only adding break, strong attack damage is too specific, and final blows are better than grapples. I wouldn't replace any of the average spirits for it, so it was left out.
Btw, the max lvl for spirits is not 50 or 60 I think
