i saw the plane that you us its fantastic, its really hard to find plane like this in japan,i try look for it at Amazon but its not worthy.
can you gide me where i can buy,
thanks for the wonderful simple video.
I got most of my hand planes off Ebay here locally in Australia. I'm not sure what the market is like in Japan, but as you say its hard to find them. Another option might be to import them but I'm not sure what is involved in that.
Hopefully this helps you out.
Finally someone using a handsaw and accessible tools
I wanted this tool chest/box to be as easy as possible to make with minimal tools, so anyone could make it.
What thickness of plywood did you use? Also, the link to the storage trays links to this same video.
I use 12mm plywood, thanks for letting me know I fixed the links
Great build, what's it like cutting into plywood with a handsaw? Similar to sawing pine?
It's a bit like pine but harder to push the saw. You definitely want to use a cross cut saw to help prevent the plywood blowing out on the cross grain
One thing that I've discovered myself is to clamp plywood before screwing into it edgewise. I mean, clamp just beside the screw to stop a potential split from running, especially near an end, if that makes sense? I don't know how to explain it clearer. Let's try this...make sure the outer faces of the ply are sandwiched in a clamp to secure it before running a screw into an edge. Use slightly cambered cauls if needed to stretch across a large distance. It may still split when the clamps are removed but if you use thinner screws and stay far enough away from corners, it should be ok.
Yes makes sense, the screw can act as a wedge and split the plys in the plywood, so the clamping pressure helps prevent this.
Really appreciate your content!!! Amazing work and great editing to see your process. I haven't been able to find one woodworker who made a tool chest with plywood with just hand tools! Always bringing out some kind of power tools to cut it. Thanks you!!!
Thanks for your kind words.
What a great project and a fantastically done video! I love your workspace too!
