Really it was v v difficult to. defeat Lennox. He had every girt of a Boxing fight .He fought with a v cool mind always.V difficult to find now a fighter like Lennox.I m great fan of him.
That Lederman guy was scoring exactly the opposite of what the rest of us were seeing (thankfully including the judges). How he gave Merver rounds 1,3,4 and Lewis the 2nd, is beyond me. It was exactly the opposite. 1,3,4, Lewis (stats prove it too) and Mercer the 2nd. Seems like some guys need to visit the ophthalmologist more frequently.
@@RATTENIKKEN And he gave Mercer rounds that he clearly lost. This goes nowhere. It's over. It's history. Let's grab a coffee or something. There's no point in this. I was wrong to even comment here.
I had it a 95-95 draw. Lewis Mercer 1 9 10 2 10 9 3 10 9 4 10 9 5 9 10 6 9 10 7 10 9 8 10 9 9 9 10 10 9 10 It depends on how you score round 10. I am confident the other scores are correct. This means Mercer did not win. A small win for Lewis or a draw would be fine but Mercer did not do enough to win. Not even close to a robbery. Rewatch this. Look how many shots from Mercer are actually blocked. Lewis far more active.
It's a close fight for sure. Really wish Mercer could have come back with a left hook after all the short jab right hand combos he was doing early. A lot of those shots got blocked, but Lewis would move his right hand off his head and look to tie Mercer up when he was doing them. Mercer seemed to just accept the clinch and rarely threw the hook to the body or the head to finish and score something back even when the first or second punch was blocked. 20:50 -- needs to finish with that hook and he knows to do it at 20:55.
If Ray could have scored and turned 2/3 punch combos into 3/4 punch combos, worked the body and the head with those shots, he may have turned the tide on a few rounds.
@@amck72 it does take as long as it needs to take, look how long it took for tyson and lewis to finally fight, imagine if lewis would have fought tyson in 1989 1990, the fight would have had a completely different outcome
@@RATTENIKKEN Not even close pal. I re-watched the fight, possibly for the 6th time in my life and Lewis clearly won (even though I rate this as the hardest fight of his career - harder than even his two losses by McCall and Rahman both of which he was clearly winning before getting tagged). The judges saw it like I did and the commentators did as well. So I don't know through what glasses did you watch the fight but you saw it wrong. Lewis had him controlled at a distance and even though Mercer made a great effort with his own jab he seldom put any punches together. He mostly threw 1 punch and stopped (in fear of the instinctive counterpunch reaction by Lewis - always a great counterpuncher something that even the commentators remarked about). Lewis is actually the GOAT as I can't see any HW in history, past, recent or present, to be able to win a hypothetical 10-bout series with him. He was too skillful, strategic, adaptive, strong, persistent and had great KO power (something that Ali, for example, lacked). I rate second Vitaly Klitchko who was equally smart and dominant but not as skillful in putting punches together. Lewis's combos were legendary for a HW. You just don't see those, ever. Mercer is actually an underrated fighter. He's easily a top 20 of all times. P.S. I actually agree about the 9th. It was Mercer's but judges got fooled by the one big right Lewis dished him which obviously made an impression.
Other than his 2 Kayo losses, this was Lewis's toughest fight.
Probably the toughest fight Lewis ever won prior to the Klitsko fight
@jdarden2002 Absolutely, nobody came this close to a decision win over Lewis.
Mercer was a bruiser. Great fight regardless of who you think you won.

AJ is nothing like Lennox: Lewis was the best of his era; Joshua avoided the best of his era. Wash your mouth out.

He gave Lewis the 9th round, a round where Mercer totally outjabbed and outpunched Lewis.

Mercer was a chunk of iron.what a horrible foe to try to beat.
Lederman was one of the worst guys in history when it came to scoring fights.
