    Thank you so much for explaining the difference in polymer around 6:20 for the Lunt ones. Was freaking out when comparing to a more reflective pair!

    Dude!! I was in a battle of picking the right choice, and you saved me hours now!! I never purchased eclipse glasses before and it’s pretty easy to get confused and buy a fake one for not knowing well. Thank you very much!!!

      @@Naztronomy You already helped me tons, friend! I really appreciate your advice. I order the Lunt solar glasses adult and kids kit through your Amazon link on the description of your video. 🙏 God bless you and your family.

    Heck yeah. Thanks bro! I went with lundt as they also have junior size. I like the solid no-glow look. Looks clean and crisp. Thank you so much. Awesome work on this video.

    I appreciate the information, especially how to use the glasses as a camera filter. I will have to practive before April. It was helpful to see what your camera was able to capture. I do like the clarity vs glow with the Lunt. I wonder which one would be best for capturing the ring or beads.
    Also, Lunt also makes glasses for children. My 5 year old is getting into astronomy and I think trying to get adult glasses to fit him might be a challenge.

    • @Naztronomy
      @Naztronomy  Рік тому

      Thanks, Dayna! (apologies in advance for the long wall of text)
      I think any of these would be fine for capturing the diamond ring or Baily's beads because I'm pretty sure the glow will be almost nonexistent for any of these glasses. The glow exists because the sun is just super bright which shouldn't be the case when the sun is ~1% illuminated. So I don't think you can go wrong with any of these for this use case.
      With that said, if you're looking to use these for your camera, I'd highly recommend making a dedicated one instead of rigging these glasses. It's risky because even a small leak over time can damage your gear (and your eyes if you look through the finder). You can get a cheap filter sheet for around $10. I have a video on that here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/4UxZnakBYpU/v-deo.html
      The Lunt kids glasses are actually great! A friend of mine bought some for his 8 year old. My son will be 1 year old next April so he probably won't really enjoy the eclipse, but I'm still gonna get him a pair of kids glasses.
      Supposedly, American Paper Optics also has kids glasses but I can't seem to find it in their shop. And Rainbow Symphony has eclipse cards for kids (but I think the adult version is a better deal).
      As a disclaimer, since I made the video, both links to Lunt and American Paper Optics in the description are referral links. But I equally endorse all 4 brands that I reviewed in the video.
      It's awesome to hear that your 5 year old is getting into astro! He'll really enjoy the eclipse. I host "star parties" every year and I love the look on kids' faces when they look through my telescope. I recommend looking to see if there are any astronomy clubs near you that you can join. Us astronomers love talking about space and showing other people what we can see with our scopes.
      Let me know if you have any questions and I wish you both clear skies!

      We do have a local astronomy group that hosts a monthly stargazing with their super sweet telescopes! He has a trainer telescope that we’ve been able to capture pictures of the moon and Jupiter using my iPhone through the eyepiece. I’m working with constellations with him right now, but where we live it’s hard to find a dark sky.

      @@boondockmom That's awesome! Good on you for getting him started early!
      I feel your pain about dark skies. I live right outside Boston and it's pretty hard so we try to take weekend stargazing trips whenever we can.

    Thanks for the information! Mine are listed on AAS. I'm relieved! If I put them on here in my office, sitting in front of a window and surrounded by novelty lights and 2 monitors, I can only just barely see the 7,000 lumen panel bulb on my ceiling.

    Thanks for the review. I am ending up going with VisiSolar. You didn't review them but they are on this list this year. But also I don't make it a habit to stare at the sun constantly (After all don't want neck pain right?) It also comes with a filter for cameras so maybe I'll just do that and not look at all lol.

    • @Naztronomy
      @Naztronomy  9 місяців тому +1

      Very cool! VisiSolar is a great brand. The AAS has greatly expanded their list since I made the video. I reviewed 4 other types of glasses a few months ago (ua-cam.com/video/EwDIP5S4F-g/v-deo.html) and if I had the time and the money, I'd love to test every single reseller and manufacturer on the AAS list. Maybe before the next one :)

    Intresting Review, Crazy Intro! I have Used Fresh Camera Films For watching solar eclipses. They block the sun light quite well!

    • @Naztronomy
      @Naztronomy  Рік тому

      Thank you :) the glasses falling off my head was a total accident but I figured I'd keep it.
      Be careful looking at the sun with camera films! This includes x-ray film. They block a lot of the visible light but I don't believe that they block enough of the UV and IR wavelengths which are the real dangers for your eyes.
      The polymers used in the lens of solar eclipse glasses and filters block out most of the visible light along with all the UV and IR.

    okay maybe it's a stupid question but I just bought some today at Kroger the numbers are correct But they are totally black, I can see nothing, nothing, how am I going to see the eclipse with that?

    • @Naztronomy
      @Naztronomy  9 місяців тому +1

      If you put them on and go outside when it's sunny, can you see the sun? Good eclipse glasses will only allow you to see the sun and very bright bulbs. But everything else should be pitch black.
