One of my student jobs in the 70s, cutting overgrown areas for the local council, using their old Allen scythe. Hideously dangerous, as the blade ran continuously with the engine. Later models had two levers, one to activate the drive, the other, fail safe, to activate the blade.

My dad had one in the 70’s, it was a gas to operate. Scary blade action. But the power was awesome.
