    I absolutely love my xc60 t6. So can’t imagine the feel of this more powerful sportier design. It’s not just the drive of the Volvo. The interior is incredible and the infotainment center is probably the best I’ve ever used.

      You need to try other cars then! Every adjustment/change of setting takes multiple screen presses.
      Full satnav screen to change fan speed and back again is about 5 presses and time with your eyes elsewhere.
      Yes you can use voice control, but feel a bit of a berk doing it with passengers in the car with you.
      It really is terrible (V90 owner)

      Rob Kirby for a living I am fortunate enough to travel. So all I do is try other rental cars. Cadillacs, Mercedes, Jaguars, Audi’s, etc. So actually I am actually extremely well versed in other cars. The Volvo, while having a couple of issues on its own, is truly one of the highest quality and smartest cars I’ve ever driven. They’ve thought of everything. My old Subaru had a great infotainment and touch screen (still one of the best today) but this is so much more refined. I know they’ve updated the processing chip to make it faster and smoother in 2019 so maybe you have an older model? I’m very IPad savvy so for me it’s a breeze. The minimalistic view this allows is second to none. Maybe the Tesla which gets everything right in this department. I’d be interested to hear from you which cars you think I should be trying instead? I’m open. So please feel free. Perhaps I’ll rent one soon and get back to you.
      We have a 2019 Audi Q5 which besides the Porsche is second in this class and the dash is a mess. No touch screen even. All buttons. Crazy and they just did a redesign. You’ll probably appreciate your Volvo when you get a new car.

      John Gaudet yes I have the inscription however i only upgraded to the Harmon Kardon. It’s still pretty amazing as Harmon designs it specifically for the Volvo’s interior, engine noise, etc. And I’ve never sat in more comfortable seats. They easily win that award. :)

      Keith Reynolds hi. My wife has a BMW with the latest I drive - maybe I’m old school but prefer the use of a ‘mouse’.
      The biggest issue is if you are using apps/Spotify whatever and you are in the nav screen.. literally 5 presses of the screen to go from one to the other. Heating etc of course is no trouble.
      It is a great relaxing car, but the quality is questionable.. Someone else mentioned comfy seats, yes they are comfy but many (including me) have had new covers in a very short time.
      Mine is an 2019 with 22K miles and is just about to get its third driver’s cover due to wear. Plus the seat base snapped, and it’s had 4 new wheels - the lacquer fell off the originals..
      Many other things have failed also.
      It’s a company funded lease car, I feel sorry for the second/third owner once it’s out of warranty.
      Cheers.

      Agreed, Volvos like very little brake torque, you want just enough to take out the initial turbo lag and that's it. I did 14.3 seconds in the quarter in my stock 2014 XC60 T6 AWD at Bandimere (near Denver). I later found out I had a bad transmission at the time, so it probably runs faster now. With Volvos, engaging sport mode for the transmission and DSTC is critical.

      Tell me more about the bad trans..
      And like you said. I tried 0-60 in my 2005 S40 2.4i. Claimed 8.9 seconds for the auto, I got 9.2 seconds. And that's with a passenger in it and a very bumpy road.. So the numbers are achievable

    • @glsracer
      @glsracer 5 років тому

      @@randomesteven3935, regarding software, Volvo has had an issue with their transmission software since the early 2000s. Both of my 2014s (an XC60 T6 AWD and XC70 T6 AWD) have issues with low speed shift quality. My 2001 had issues as well, though less software related since there was actually a design flaw in the the early 5 speed transmissions that was made worse by bad TCM software. I haven't driven the newest models so it's hard to say. My guess is that Volvo still hasn't learned it's lesson after switching to the 8 speed transmission since they claim the issue with the 6 speeds is normal operation.
      My transmission had a bad clutch actuator, and the transmission was replaced under warranty. I believe it was actually an early software issue with the neutral control system that caused the damage since the issue persists (to a lesser extent, as mentioned above) on my 2 Volvos and every other 6 speed automatic Volvo that I have driven (and I had a lot of dealer loaners).
      I suspect the low performance in the video is due to the weight of the battery pack, too much brake torque, and not ensuring that the car was configured for best performance in Sensus. From what I've seen though, 2019 T8 XC60s were only as fast as the T6 models from the previous generation that had the 3 litre I6 turbo engines. They should be much faster but aren't for some reason. I don't like the squircle style interior of the newest Volvos so I haven't spent much time to find out why the the newer cars are slower (beyond the obvious battery weight penalty) because I don't plan to buy one.

    Small correction from an T8 Driver for more than 180.ooo km: The ICE under the hood does'nt produce 400HP its the combined Power of both engines, the ICE and the EV. Same with max torque
    If you want to achieve fast acceleration times make shure, that the Battery is fully chraged and use the Drive-Mode Power.

    • @looncraz
      @looncraz 5 років тому +1

      Exactly this! (Fellow T8 owner here!) If you want maximum performance you need to be driving in Power and it will keep some reserve for performance (and use the engine to recharge the battery on every deceleration in addition to regenerative braking) - this is what enables full performance. If you do a range-maxed drive and then put it into Power you're going to need to the battery and motor cool enough and also with enough charge to get maximum performance.
      I noticed the actual time in the video for the 0-100kmh run was also only 6seconds and not the near 8-seconds they claimed... I doubt the video editor made the mistake considering you have to use timestamps to keep the audio in sync, so it was a clear measurement issue.

      @@looncraz so if you forgot to be in the right mode while overtaking... you are dead...
      Strange because most of the cars with different engine settings still give access to the full performance when kicking down to be safe. Seems Volvo is not doing so.

    • @looncraz
      @looncraz 5 років тому +3

      @@jeanbaptistelabelle No, the car produces a shit ton of power when passing regardless of the mode you are in - even in eco, floor it at speed and you will have the power come on.
      Also, due to the pedal feel, steering, sound, and instrument/console changes between modes, you never forget what mode you're in. Ever.
      The T8 simply produces full performance at low to mid RPMs - from a standstill - in Power mode, the power band moves high - very high - when the only thing providing boost is the turbo, but it's still there when you floor it... but there's a definite turbo lag.
      The supercharger + turbo + electric motor are all engaged at the same time in Power mode on launch.. and ONLY in Power mode. In essence, the supercharger is off in every other mode, but the rear electric motor's 87HP still means you have ~320HP and about 400lbft of torque available, but only when floored and only with some delay - just like every other turbo car that has an additional 87HP rear motor...
      I got 26.1MPG average over the last 26,000 miles as well... which is just amazing for a 6,000lbs+ vehicle.

      @@looncraz I just got a t8. I would not have guessed the power mode makes much of a diff as it never has in my other cars including a 2018 t5, but I will definitely keep this in mind. Only got two days ago so haven’t played around with the modes much yet.
      I’m assuming that even if I run pure down to an “empty” battery the car keeps enough in the pack in reserve for at least one good burst of speed if requested.

    • @looncraz
      @looncraz 4 роки тому +1

      @@patty109109 You'll undoubtedly love your T8 - it's a different beast from the T5/6, that's for sure! The car will never truly allow the battery go too low, there's always energy left to assist the rear wheels.
      If you use the "Driver Performance" applet you can watch the magic going on behind the scenes - when running on a low battery it will start the engine and recharge the battery with the integrated 30HP starter/generator... it's also the fastest way to get any charge into the battery - way faster than the wall charger.
      You may notice that the car doesn't allow full power until things have been conditioned - fully warmed up engine oil, battery in the right temperature range, etc... a bit disappointing that you can't monitor all of that, but you sure can feel when it allows full power.

The drivetrain feels like a naturally aspirated V8 mated to a shockingly smooth automatic transmission. You can hear the difference in the sound engine makes as well.
      In hybrid, which I suspect the 0-60 times were actually measured with, the supercharger is essentially turned off, the electric motor is in a more eco-oriented mode, and the turbo lag is very evident - you can feel when the turbo hits, such as when you gun it to get on the highway... but you're really only playing with about 300HP when you're in this mode, which is the default mode the car starts in (it doesn't remember the last mode).

    Also, you can't do accurate 0-60 runs with an entire 200lb human in the passenger seat, above sea level or not. It's a hybrid... Why are you brake torquing it? Great video... I wouldn't buy that car if I had the cash to pay for it. I don't see Volvo being something I would drive. If you had a Volvo before and want to stick with the brand I can see that but for the money there is much nicer cars like the SQ5 that is more luxury and performance. Thats going to be my next car if I can afford it or the VW Atlas Premium 6 seater.

      @@aurorajones8481 My XC90 T8 does 0-60 in about 5.8~6.0 seconds (my measurement) at 600ft ASL, so there's no way the XC60 T8 Polestar is doing worse than that given its lighter weight and higher power.
      Bad tires/traction, cold engine, wrong drive mode... hot battery... something caused the electric motor to not contribute or the supercharger to not engage. The traction control is also rather aggressive in these cars, so when you lose traction power is cut for a second before being feathered back on - my 2006 S80 does the same thing, but it's less well isolated so it's easier to notice that it's happening.
