    HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the moms out there.
    I should mention that everyone on the boat clip were ok. The did another video where they recovered the boat.

    When your in trouble and you have a mustang suit on your trying to survive if something goes horribly wrong, your not trying to make a fashion statement. I’ve watched some of your videos and they’re very informative, common sense will help keep you alive.

    Excellent review of this excellent piece of gear. I’m a former US Merchant Seaman and very familiar with Mustang and these suits. The pillow is designed to inflate, keeping your head out of the water while maintaining body core temps. FYI... new life raft survival training, indicates to avoid jumping into the water to keep the head from being submerged. You’re doing a good thing with the work suit. Put an ACR Strobe Light on it and a whistle. 👍👍😁

      Thanks Bill. We do have a MS 2000 strobe I accidentally wound up with after I separated from the military. We keep it a hand held VHF radio and a fire starter in a dry box.
      Good to know, we will lower ourselves into the water 👍

      I agree with you Bill... good comment...
      I m thinking AK should require classes covering the cold climate basics... how to live off grid... fire safety... boating and fishing safety... gun safety... food safety and food prep basics... tree cutting... knife safety... the wildlife rules... and so on... but it seems like people just move to AK and just learn as they go... but unfortunately some will perish if they do not do their homework first and then keep on learning during those 40+ below zero dark winters. It s still sad when people and other animals die.

    Brian, I'm a true land lubber, though the times that I went out in a boat on a lake or river I always worn a life jacket, because in the late '70s I almost drowned in the Pacific Ocean in Acapulco, swimming, I got pulled under by an under current, my buddy saved me. Since that time I tend to stay in land, lol......You Rock in your dancing, Two Thumbs Up for me, Brian, and thanks for getting the word-out on water safety!

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  5 років тому +1

      That’s a terrifying experience. I almost drowned when I was a kid too. I still don’t like the water that much. Ironically I live on a island lnow😂
      Glad you like the moves. 👍

    Good video. I have never been a safety sally , but when on the water things go from bad to worse in a second. Just like that video you highlighted. Those guys in the boat were trying to diagnose problems and then all hell broke loose. They didn't even have a chance to get prepared. Down on the coast where your at , water safety is a huge priority. Where i am, heat suits for riding the river highways in winter is my priority. Snowmachine breaks down 35 miles from home is not good. Looks like ill be spending the night outside. As always love the videos and be safe.

      You got that right , thins can get dire in seconds. Like you said -40 ain’t nothing to mess around with or you might end up looking like Jack Nicholson in the Shining. One big popsicle. lol

    Another great video which I enjoyed!
    Your videos are always informational, you do great presentations, and you do have a good sense of humor!
    Thanks for showing me the Mustang suit, it was a familiar concept to me, as I grew up in the Puget Sound region before moving to Wyoming.
    Puget Sound water temps or the same as where you live, year-round!
    Landlubbers really don't have a concept of what that cold water can do to you and how quickly it will do it, and how your body just simply shuts down.
    Thanks again for another great informational and I look forward to your next one!
    Cheers from Central Wyoming!

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому +1

      Thanks JR for such a nice comment. Yeah when things go south on the water things get dire fast.
      Our chart plotter has a temp gauge on it and according to that we stay around 42 in the summer but can drop down bellow 40 in the winter +or- a couple of degrees I guess.
      Thanks again for watching and a big hello to Wyoming. 👍

    No one ever moved to Alaska for the opportunities to wear fashionable clothing, so just stay safe and warm. Does the size of your boat tend to dictate how rough of seas you can navigate, or is it about the same for any craft small enough to be trailered?

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому +5

      Ha your right, if your into fashion Alaska is not the state for you. Maybe Anchorage, but that’s about it. lol
      Yes it totally does. The boat that took us back and forth to the mine could handle 10 foot swells. I’ve been in 17’ swells but that boat is 65’ and mine is 20’. Big difference. As far as trailering, I’d say all single axle trailered boats would fit in my category. When you get to double and triple axle trailers you could handle rougher waters. A 28’ boat would be a great inner passage and off shore boat. But I you’d have a hard time launching and docking that boat by yourself. You’d need a buddy.
      That may have been a long and drawn out answer. lol

  • @CBsGreenhouseandGarden

    See I told ya it was body bags! :-) Sounds like a great suit. Yep it turns blue every time on every video so your good to go! Man that was crazy of them going out in the winter like that. Great idea of putting a vest on Gunner. We got ya on the 420 buddy..LOL Hope you folks are having a great Mothers Day Weekend!

      Ha, I’m Colorado they had a mile marker sign at 420 and it kept getting stolen. So they moved it 1/2 mike up the road and labeled it 420 1/2, problem solved.
      You guys have a great Mother’s Day as well.

    You'll lose use of your hands well before hypothermia sets in. You might have a radio, search beacon or even a safety line you won't be able to use. Those suits extend the amount of time before your hands lose dexterity and give you the opportunity to climb onto something.
    You'll also lose the ability to think clearly well before hypothermia sets in.
    Without any insulation or protection, you might have an hour before terminal hypothermia sets in, but you have less than ten minutes to do anything about it.

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead

      No. I have friends that have fiberglass boats but they can’t beach them to get on and off the island. They are really nice. A little heavier, less noisy and most are smoother in the water but we could do what we are doing with one.

    Put that dance move in the cooler, then bury the cooler...
    Thanks for the rundown on the suit.
    Putting out a video showing you owning scaffolding is gonna make you popular....just remember to charge by the week, paid in advance or some Homer Simpson will borrow it and never return it....
    Glad you’re taking good care of gunner, too many dog owners that treat the dog like it is not a family member... it is obvious that isn’t happening in your case. You’re infantry, shouldn’t (machine)Gunner be getting a friend, Grenadier?
    I’ve been thinking of dog breeds for my retirement..... I hate dogs that slobber, but a Newfie seems like the dog to beat for anyone regularly traveling by boat up there..... funny thing, I never see videos of Alaskans having a Newfie, even the ones spending their lives on that rough water.
    Be good, stay safe.

    • @Rick_Sanchez_C137_
      @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ 6 років тому

      My Alaska Dream
      Yep, everyone likes to watch a clown.....I was looking out for YOU.....
      You think nobody’s gonna come asking......I was already doing the mental math on trying to haul it in the size boat I’m thinking about(17’ or 20’ Lund), and tie down points I should add to the boat before attempting it........I’m betting I’m not the only one....
      Yep, Newfies are big dogs...and half the Newfies I’ve seen in my life exceed the size/weight of the breed standards.....but a dog that will likely pull you out of the drink if you go overboard? That sounds like a dog worth it’s weight in gold......or floaties.......

      And Thanks for the education on what it takes to be a small boat operator in the land of ice and snow. And yes it takes giant gonads to launch and retrieve a double axle trailer boat by ones self. I had to do that on occasion with that 23' Mako. Hell the electric brakes on the trailer never worked on it as I bought the boat used. It was a trade in at a Mako dealership. One time I didn't judge the stopping distance right and it pushed me in my 1990 full sized Ford Bronco right through a intersection. That's where the big gonads comes in...

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  6 років тому

      Wow, yeah that would suck for sure. I made a horrible decision last week when backing our boat down the launch ramp. It was a little slick but not too bad. I walked the ramp and it appeared good but once I started backing down my truck and boat slide backwards about 8 feet.
      The harbor is pretty good about sanding the ramps and I’m pretty good about chaining up if it’s icy but I miss judged this big time. It could have been worse. Caulk this up to a learning experience, when in doubt whip them out. 👍

    • @joecucch8261
      @joecucch8261 6 років тому
