I have to laugh at the fact that Tamlin is seen as being so bad for not letting Feyre help out or become high lady when the girl *checks notes* Is illiterate, has no experience leading, has no experience in politics, etc etc. Like I haven't read the books, so I dunno if Feyre tried like IDK learning about Prythian history or something, but it just seems so stupid to me.. like "what do you mean I can't be a leader!"
This is what I was thinking too. Maybe schooling her in some political science and history of the government she's demanding a place in would be a good way to teach her to read as well as a start to her getting a place in leadership. As for not teaching her to control her powers or how to fight...no excuse lmao
Literally girl has been a fae for one week, can’t read, doesn’t know how to do anything but hunt deer; and suddenly she decides “nah fuck hobbies and making personal friendships/relationships, my only interests now are being a FEMA relief agent; warmonger and politician” 😂 it’s so unrealistic. A normal person going from extreme poverty right into a lavish lifestyle would spend wayyyyy more time finally indulging in the comforts of the wealthy
The thing that always gets my goat about the argument that Tamlin "did nothing" Under the Mountain. He knew he'd be powerless to protect Feyre if they both went there with the curse unbroken which is why he sent Feyre back to her family in Book 1 in the first place! And for all that Rhysand is "the most powerful High Lord" and "the most clever High Lord," he more or less let Amarantha run unchecked for fifty years for the sake of protecting one city. Not his whole court or territory, literally just ONE city...
Yeah Tamlin didn't do much to help under the mountain, but realistically I don't really know what he could have done. He was likely under way more supervision than Rhysand so he couldn't help Feyre the same way. Don't even get me started on Rhysand being "the most clever high lord" but he can't stop the Illyrians or the court of nightmares from treating their women like crap.
@@sentireads I can literally hear Feyre blaming Tamlin for who knows how many Spring Court deaths or Lucien's death even if he had tried to help her UtM... Then again, she does seem to think more about how things affect her than other people, so perhaps she wouldn't have been bothered as much. Neither really works.
Tamlin could’ve done something he could have found away to send a msg through Lucien … the laugh lady of autumn … found away to check when she got beat up in front of him …something. He only even addressed her when he thought she had a chance that she might live through all 3 trials and even then it was purely sexual and almost got them both killed. Also, he sent her away when he still had time and knew she was close to saying I love you…they ruined his character … throughout the entire book every time he is tasked with standing up for her or defending her his way of protecting her is to submit to whatever punishment he can for her instead of fighting for her or even taking her opinion /feelings into account. Tamlin would’ve been a better match for Elaine. Rhys power was taken he couldn’t have stopped Amarantha At that point so the little bit he did have left he protected his true court which is what a high lord does…and the curse wasn’t bound to him like it was Tamlin if it was I’m sure he would’ve found a different way of going about things but this whole thing started because of amarantha and Tamlin… so putting him in it to save everyone isn’t really fair he did what he could after the damage was done. And Tamlin does the EXACT same thing when he appears to ally with Hybern they are both pretty much the same it just depends on who you like more they are both secretive asf the only difference is Tamlin’s inner circle consisted of Ianthe and Lucien … poor Lucien… and pattern Tamlin thinking Ianthe was even decent as he once thought amarantha wasn’t as manic as she actually is.l when all the signs were there.
@@ThisIsTheKendomand what’s your point? You’re saying “Rhys power was taken from him” so was tamlins! He literally had all his powers taken and was being forced by magic to sit RIGHT NEXT to amarantha
SJM did Tarqin so dirty in this book I am actually upset. The only nice guy in the book who isn't like a thousand years, reasonable enough to probably give them the book if they asked, and not a faery racist. He deserves better.
honestly, the hypocrisy between how Rhysand's and Feyre's actions are treated by the narrative compared to Tamlin's are really, really infuriating. I thought the first book was incredibly dull, but after I read the short novella, my opinion on everything changed entirely, especially Tamlin's point of view from the characters. Like, every action they do is right and condoned, and anyone who questions them is clearly wrong. I get that they're the main characters, but god, the sheer lack of self reflection... And that's not even mentioning the retcons in these next two books... For a book series all about healing trauma, it seems Feyre's trauma is the only one that actually matters, and healing just means doing what Rhysand wants, as long as we pretend it's her choice - even if it hurts other people. Tamlin's trauma (he has textbook PTSD after UtM) hurts the main character aka their self insert, so of course he's irredeemable. Other characters have done far worse, but because it wasn't to Feyre, their actions are forgiven/not even questioned.
I remembered I was in a reading slump for a bit and my co-worker recommended these books, so I powered up the kindle and got the bundle of them on sale one day. And I found that I no longer trusted the reading recommendations of my co-worker.
"Feyre, the Cursebreaker and Defender of the Rainbow" sounds like a name for a comic book character concept from fifth grade... or a really weirdly named oc who REALLY needs ppl to know that they're an ally to the LGBTQ+?? idk
8:22 I generally hate the worldbuilding dynamic of the high fae being the most human-like in terms of appearance, speech, and morals whereas the “low” fae are the most obviously fairy-tale-esque when it’s been established that humans used to be slaves to the fae and are generally considered weak and ‘below’ them- you’d think a powerful and high-ranked fae would have no interest in maintaining the “pretence of normalcy” in regards to… behaving like a human? As High Lord, Tamlin would’ve logically been like a monstrous creature of flowers and chimerical animal parts who takes pride in showing off his uniquely fae talents like running fast lol why is he just an Average Joe when fairyland is established to hate and have enslaved humans ??
Omg yes!!! I said the same thing when ranting to someone else!! It makes no sense for the High fae to look down on humans considering the high fae are also humanoid compared to lesser fae.
@@sentireads It sucks because in the first book, the fairy tale esque fae were some of the high points in SJM's writing. The spring court felt alive with all these fantastical creatures coompared to Velaris and the NC being stock-image google-search "attractive models" with wins tacked onto the back as they walk around the first Pinterest result for a search of "Scotland aesthetic city" in oversized sweaters and leggings
Sometimes I can't help but think, did she get into a relationship that was incredible that suddenly turned very sour and a bit abusive ? And then she jumped right onto another one which was so incredibly manipulative that it was hard to detect ? It's a person's real life so I dare not speculate too much , but I don't know how someone can glorify a person as terrible and manipulative as Rhysand ...also , writing Tamlin off comes across as the bitter ex stereotype.
I genuinely think I’d enjoy these books so much more if they were fae horror because they read as horror that the author is trying to convince you is this lovely shiny thing. Like don’t give me “it’s your choice, feyre darling” when it’s so much more believable that Rhys was fully mindcontrolling tamlin and feyre to cause the schism in their relationship and ensure feyre was vulnerable to his advances (like I don’t think this is actually true to canon, but it’s a far more interesting dynamic than “whoops let’s completely assassinate the initial love interest and have the new love interest be practically a carbon copy but with a different hair colour and hope no one notices”). Just straight up give me horror rather than “fae are sparkly humans with magic and fated mates”
i couldn’t get anyone to talk shit about the ACOTAR series with me so i had to come to youtube. thank you so much your sacrifice/service, i enjoyed every second. debating on not even reading the third book and just listening to book reviews on it because i cannot go through another shitty book about this world
I recommend reading it for yourself if you have access to it for free because the third book is kind of bonkers. It's also extremely long and mostly boring so I wouldn't spend money purchasing it. I've actually just finished my script for ACOWAR and plan to start recording tomorrow. Fingers crossed it'll be out toward the end of the month/beginning of next month.
@@berengustav7714 like I’m pretty sure they worship a mother goddess in this world? And their religion has priestesses but not priests and yet? Its patriarchal??? Why??? A matriarchy makes way more sense
I can kinda understand Nesta being a bitch when Feyre first comes back in this book. Feyre left and Nesta told her the only thing she requests is that Feyre tell her if she survives with her HL and Feyre left her in the dark for how long? Was gonna get married without telling her or Elain but appears with multiple fae (something that humans fear) because she wants something from them now. I'd be pissed too.
@subratanandy2142 honestly, Maas probably didn't think that much into it. She's used to writing stuff and expecting the reader to just accept it without thought.
I absolutely fucking love the coloring book visuals alongside scathing commentary. I didnt know this could tickle my fancy this much, like, I think you could color a LPS or MLP coloring book and I’d happily watch kicking my feet
I'm a medic (civilian) and I know veterans who can't go to barbecues because the smell of grilling meat reminds them of burnt human flesh - and these are people who only got into self-defense fights! Obviously trauma is very individual and not everyone experiences post-traumatic symptoms in the same way, but the thing with Feyre and killing feels like SJM doesn't understand trauma and just went "well she needs to feel bad about killing the two faeries" but then she just, what, walks it off? Reminds me of how in Harry Potter, book 5 Harry displays textbook PTSD and the next books just sorta forget about it
'Pen' is actually a much older word and invention than pencil. Pen is what the core of a quill feather was called, and later on we get wooden and metal tipped dip pens for writing with ink. Other than that, SJM's historical inspirations are complete nonsense. I like to imagine Rhysand as an Albanian gangsta rap sensation, for all that he stresses his 'Illyrian' heritage.
4:31:50: Honestly one of the things that gave me the ick the most in this entire book. I felt like Feyre's badgirlification was only part of a surface-level ploy to make the reader think she was all edgy and empowered. Her coming to terms with her capacity for killing, and her newfound philosophy of having things to protect that justifty getting rid of the guilt that comes with such an act, could have been explored in contrast to who she was at the beginning of the book dealing with trauma, or even in the last one (when she was killing beasts in the forest to ensure her family's survival, or pressured to do so by Amaranta. Those deaths were framed to be dealt out of necessity, and never felt liberating to her). This change in her perspective could have been made more meaningful than simply serving as an indicator that Feyre's feeling all better and being fierce now -literal slay queen moment- and yet we barely got that acknowledgement; and her only seeing those kills in terms of how they're making _her_ feel or how cool and strong she is for raking them absolutely wasn't endearing her to me. In general I felt like this book was horny for violence in a very weird way - for instance, it spends way too much time reveling in Rhys's OPness and his ability to mist people off the earth if he ever so chooses, he's constantly praised for exacting brutal treatment against those who quote unquote deserve it (such as Mor's dad, who's a caricatural villain and the scum of the Earth for sure, but regardless, are we supposed to cheer for him getting tortured? really?), and both Rhys and Feyre threaten others with violence should they slight their significant other and we're supposed to see this behaviour as a proof of the strength of their love and haha flirty banter. And maybe that's SJM's kink, and you do you, I guess, but personally this aspect turned me right off. Seeing how prevalent this pattern is was one of the big things that made me unable to adhere to the main protagonist's perspective- I just couldn't get over it.
That aspect disgusted me too It makes the thing thst everyone loooves this book for, the “healing from trauma” storyline, feel so hollow because she’s still passive and being led by the nose at all times by her big strong man and everything she does is in service of Rhysand. She barely has any other thoughts about anything (except of course herself) Plus the sheer hypocrisy of this book of how everything Rhysand does and is condoned for, Tamlin is criticized and hated for. Like, does Maas think so little of the audience that we wouldn’t notice? The level of objectionable content is so blatant yet this book is considered the best of the series. Like… what?
The book was absolutely horny for violence in a very weird way while also chastising other characters for their violent acts. I'm working on the ACOWAR script now, and Tamlin is frequently admonished for his violent outbursts (as he should be) but later on both Azriel and Feyre attack people in fits of rage and aren't demonized by the narrative for it. It's weird that it's okay for some characters to be violent but not others.
To be fair most of the Fandom despises "Tampon" as they call him, and did very much fall fir Maas' poor attempt at retconning her already hollow characters. @@sciencefantastic
Tarquin deserves better than this series. Dude’s the nicest guy in the books, but I guess only toxic man children who prowl and purr their way through life are the only ones worth attention lol.
1:57:19 preach! The idea of watching my sisters doing everything for me feels slimy. They had 2 capable hands and did NOTHING to help the youngest kid. They never even tried to help her read. I get the feeling that SJM doesn't have siblings because with how they act toward each other feels like roommates and not siblings. Even later on Rhys and his bros act like actual siblings more than the girls do. All the girls get is a shared nod. I get the fact that Fayra was the odd one in the trio, but she still LIVED with them, day in and day out. Annoyance to one's sibling is a given, but if someone else goes after them I'm jabbing the fork into them myself. I totally think Casian was right to snap at Nesta for the way Fayra was treated, but I'd still snap back at him.
The Archeron sisters definitely don't have the sibling bond Id expect from a family who went through such hardships. You'd think it would bring them all closer together, but it really doesn't.
Burning the coloring sheets after was such a mood. As a teen I loved these books, but now that I'm older and have read faaaar better books (romance and otherwise) I can't stand these books.
Personally, I think the reason the mortal realm had even shittier worldbuilding than the rest of this mess is because SJM clearly prefers the fairy realm stuff to anything having to deal with the humans. Most of this series takes place there, the major love interests are all fae/fairies, and even the food of the mortal realm is apparently sub par in comparison to the stuff you can get in the fairy realm. Granted this is a Romantasy and that's kind of the point that the fantasy aspects are more important/prominent, but that's also why I think SJM cared more about giving names/titles to the Bone Carver and the Weaver and the like and not anything like the main continent in the mortal realm. They're part of the realm in the story she Does care about.
@@pixelsbykris5494 they even went to the evil King's island and we heard nothing about how long it took to get there, if there was a huge city surrounding the castle, if the castle was next to a cliff that had crashing shores against it, natha. Just *pop* "we are in the evil guy's lair and must be very quiet. Oh no, we got caught." Not even a humongous painted mural of himself over a fireplace just him strolling in like we knew who the fluff he was.
Also!!! The ending is so confusing. Tamlin owns up to his mistakes but it's "too little too late" and he's still a bad guy... but Rhysand glosses over the horrific things he'd subjected Feyre to in the last book and he's a tragic character who deserves love and he's supposed to be Feyre's "happy ending"?
I binged your ACOTAR videos and really loved what you did with coloring in this one!!! it was nice having something peaceful to watch while listening to such a bad book lol but your takes are hilarious too and make it worth it! thank you so much for suffering to make this - one of my favorites now and definitely one I will be adding to my “fall asleep to” playlist of long form videos I love!
Bone carver disappointed me so much because from that name I was expecting a creepy giant creature that speaks in rattles (I imagined the mask maker from hollow knight) but instead it just looks like whatever.
IS ‘WOMEN MAKE MEN FOOD’ REALLY A PLOT POINT. THAT IS SO GROSS. Rhys is such a prick, I have no idea how he got so popular as the epitome of book boyfriend. Especially with how when Tamlin does something messed up it’s evil and he should throw himself off a cliff. But when Rhys violates Feyre every night Under the Mountain (why is that capitalized? What mountain?) it’s excusable. Also the whole Rhysand is the bestest most powerful beautiful man in the world is so dumb. How are there stakes when he can just poof people. It’s dumb.
Your entire series on these books is so much more entertaining than the actual books. It is absolutely killing me every time the karate chopping comes up!
Okay, I’ve only seen the videos made by caricanread and have never read the books, but when I watched the video on ACOTAR I kind of thought that Feyre, Tamlin, and Lucien would make an interesting poly relationship. Do I think Tamlin is a bad love interest? Yes, but I don’t know, something about the dynamics between the three of them makes that kind of crack-ship relationship really intriguing to me
I’m going through these books because my wife enjoyed them and wanted to talk about them with me. So I’ve been trying to keep my negative comments to myself lol. Its so refreshing to see I’m not the only bothered by this dumb series lol. I’ll be returning to this video for catharsis as I work my way through this horrible book.
I read these books after suffering a head injury and it was the level of skill I could manage at the time, found them great when I first read them. Now I can actually understand stories, nuisance, themes, world building so on again, I actually can’t see what I liked about them other than they were surface level easy to read
i have never read this book but i loved watching your vids about them while drawing! the writing for this book series is all over the place but i’m so fascinated by it, it’s like a car crash i just can’t look away 😭 props to you for reading this mess i hope you are recovering well from all this LMAO
We should have some sort of counter or drinking game every time the word "choice" and "choose" comes up in the Night Court ahdhdj I am definitely not straight enough for this genre. I could not get into this dichotomy of gender/sex and mates and fae stuff lol
Just finished the first roast, keen for the second and I'm definitely subscribing! Thank you for this, these books droves me insane. My friends know me for loving a good read and I'll chew their ear off about ASOIAF or Dune if they sit still long enough, so I was recommended this series by EVERYONE. I picked the first book up and should have been able to finish it in a day or two but it took me the better part of two weeks to muscle through it because it was so bad I found it genuinely hard to read. I reported back that I hated it but was told to read the sequel as it "really picks up". I read it, and reported back that I hated it, and was assured the next book is where it really got into it's groove and I'd love it. I hated the third book too, found myself a quarter into the fourth and gave up. I'd like to be generous and say these books have some half-baked cool ideas and imagry that I liked, but so poorly exectued and written that it's shocking that these books are as popular as they are. I started noticing the phrase "I could have sworn...", immediately followed by "Could have sworn..." is repeated EVERY FEW PAGES, to the point where I was DREADING it coming up again. And it always would. Sorry for ranting. I hate this series. I hate that people thought I would like it. I hate when people point out the fairy porn on my shelf and ask about it. I condemn the part of me that enjoys what I do about them. These books make my bowels turn watery.
3:47:07 that is hands down the worst thing i have ever heard. Like??? What??? Like okay i get it you can have whatever weird traditions in this fake world im all for it but the way he says it.... the use of the word female, the word mate... the fact that he monologs about it like this is just super weird to me for some reason? Like i feel if someone says smth like that to me immediately after i was doing smth nice for them i would just feel so confused and awkward?? Like just let us have the moment and you can monolog abt it AFTER😭😭😭😭
I was about to throw my phone (I read on the Kindle app) across the room when I read that. Did we really need "traditional" gender norms in the fairy world??? I'm sick of them in real life so I want a fantasy world without them!
Not necessarily coloring, but if you do similar coloring books in the future, on pages with a lot of gray or other large blocks of color, you could try using a watercolor wash and then you could color pencil on top of it (to avoid destroying multiple markers). Not sure how that would interact with markers though
I just drove for 8 hours straight and your videos gave me life. Your voice is beautiful and soothing. Your humor broke up the endless roads. And plus I don't need to actually read the book, I can listen along with you ❤️ thank you for doing this and for being such a gem.
@@sentireads Here you go. 🍷🍷 Well deserved. I like the coloring btw. It’s not necessary if it takes up too much extra time for you, your videos will be enjoyable either way, but if you enjoyed it, I say go for it. 💖
I can't get over how much this whole series was just very obviously Twilight fanfiction originally, with Beauty & the Beast/Hunger Games/a few other worlds poured on top. Tamlin is Jacob/Beast (can turn wolf-mode), Rhysand is Edward (mind-reader), Morrigan/Mor is Rosalie/Rose, rest of the inner circle is the other Cullens, Under the Mountain is the Volturi compound, Feyre's resurrection is Bella becoming a vampire (complete with mind shielding abilities and instant power-scaling) ... like good grief.
Senti pleassssse do this for a court of silver flames I cannot tell you how much I enjoy these videos Or even if you want to do any other books, even ones you like, in this long form, I love the detailed summary with the sassy commentary 👌
I have thought about reading these books so much that I actually have a paperback copy of the first book that I've been sitting on for like a year and a half... I have watched your book 1 and 2 videos over the last 3 to 4 days and here's a reminder that not all heroes wear capes. ❤🎉
Fully lost it when you cut to the fireplace - that's so cathartic! I have no desire to read the series but for some reason have watched a lot of videos discussing the plot, and I think you've done the best job conveying that the writing is just...bad on basically every level. Not "so bad it's good" or entertaining despite being trashy, but just straight-up poorly executed and worse, boring. Idk man, I hope you at least got to listen to an audiobook or podcast or something that you actually enjoyed while coloring all that stuff. Sadly I have no tips for markers - they've always intimidated me and I just stick to colored pencils - but I liked how you mixed it up with glitter at points!
What a nice comment 😭 There are some parts of the book/series that are so bad that it's good, but it's mostly boring and frustrating. The logical inconsistencies in the plot, worldbuilding, and character motivations are maddening. I'm glad you liked the fireplace gag! I thought about putting some graffiti and stuff over the coloring pages but I couldn't figure out how to print an appropriately sized three wolf moon shirt for Feyre...
I don't know why no one else is talking about it but "harkening back to the beasts we once were..." you mean fairies EVOLVED!!!!!!!! like how? why? like what? I'll be thinking about that all week
3:07:05 - Ok but HOW does Amarantha know what day Starfall if its a Holiday that only happens in Velaris? Didn't R make sure she didn't know about Velaris? Is it a Holiday throughout the Night Court? Convenient Vague-ry
About to start this video and crossing my fingers that you still hate this series as much as I do 😂 Another UA-camr read the second book and fell in love with the series (after hating the first book) and I was so disappointed in her😭😭😭
ik i alr commented how stupid feyre’s title is but i was rewatching the video and i can’t help but notice how much it would suck to be called that her friends got some sick ass titles like “the lord of bloodshed” and “the shadowsinger” while she got “defender if the rainbow” tacked onto her already lackluster “cursebreaker” title also mor just being called “the morrigan” is both really funny and really sad at the same time lmao
This is the first time I have ever sat down and watched a video for this long without multitasking. The markers. The spot on rants. They have enchanted me.
So I just started the video, and my hope and dream of Feyre's deal with Rhysand ends up being more like two cackling hens gossiping about how messy the other high fae are over tea. I expect I will be severely disappointed on this front. EDIT 1: For Alcohol Markers, if you want to shade, there's usually a colorless marker that's used for making shading blend more smoothly by mixing the edges together. Like a marker version of a blending stick for pencils. Also, I'd start off doing the shading first and then going in with the lighter shades bc it's easier to tinker with it if you go from dark colors to lighter. EDIT 2: Nesta would be really likeable if her book had her go from overly cocky and "princessy" to having to work for what she wants and progressively becoming humble whilst showing that her confidence is a front and she's actually an incredibly insecure person who overtime overcomes it and shows her confidence through becoming kinder bc she doesn't need to rely on meanness to feel a sense of security.
lol I love that you burned it all at the very end 😅 I DNFed this series bc I had more or less the same thoughts and even the steam started to get very stale so even that wasn’t worth trekking through. But I enjoy the long recap videos absolutely roasting the books so… THANK YOU this was leagues better than the book 😅
Girl watching someone do crafts while bitching about bad romance????? Sign me up sister! I love commenting along while I listen, I always draw when I listen to you.
I have never read these books so maybe they describe them in there, but seeing these coloring book illustrations made me go *wait, is THAT what the wings are meant to look like????* I always picture fae wings as. you know, more insect like? not those bat or dragon like looking things. I figured it also made more sense then that the wings are particularly sensitive, and they can have intricate patterns and colors it would look very pretty in my head. I thought they'd look more butterfly or dragonfly-esque but aight. this has left me baffled I had to comment it
The Illyrians specifically have bat like wings. There are other fairy races with feathered wings. The high fae in general don't have wings at all. Some of the lesser fae that are more insect like might have butterfly like wings but the novels really talk about those kind of fae.
Also, when you mentioned that SJM is basically calling out her weird world building by having Rhy just say "idk thats just how it is." Reminds me of Don't Fear the Reaper when Stephen Graham Jones has a charcater say "who would name their kid Grade? Who would name anyone Grade?" Hahaha. Also idk if its for sure Grade because I did the audiobook lol
3:06:45 starfall actually shows up in throne of glass. Spolier: aelin, the protaganist, is falling through dimentions and at one point mentions falling through the sky where shes sees a pregnant brunette woman and a tall dark haired dude with wings who are obviously future feyre and rhysand. so ig theyre all souls falling through universes????
@@sentireads All of these characters are certain degrees of obnoxious or awful, but the degree the book bends everything around Rhysand like he’s a freaking collapsed star makes me so angry. Like u couldn’t have just had it not work out, gotta make Tamlin “the beta male” or whatever.
@@sciencefantastic absolutely! They did Tamlin so dirty in the whole "exchange" of Feyre. They didn't need to destroy Tamlins character for the romance to not work out.
@@sentimentalelemental7353 What still gets my goat about the shift from Book 1 to Book 2 is how many of Tamlin's core character traits were just blatantly ignored. I mean, sure, there were hints of violence, anger and overprotectiveness in him from the start -he is, after all, a Beast expy; the comparison's pretty blatant- but also, just like in Beauty and the Beast, a huge part of Feyre's and his portrayed relationship development in Book 1 was about listening to one another, slowly getting to know the other and seeing beyond disastrous first impressions. And yet suddenly he can't see pretty obvious signs of her not being well- I call bull. But what goes on outside the relationship is the most aggravating aspect to me personally. From the beginning, Tamlin's being characterized as being rough around the edges (with his Court following rites like Calanmai, Feyre's first impressions in ACOTAR outlining both the Court's luxuries and its savage aspects and Tamlin himself being presented in a very contrasting way to the more refined, sly Rhysand). And another huge thing about him from what I remember was his attachment to his own Court and his people in a very close-knit, protect-his-own kind of way, to the point of taking the mantle of High Lord when he didn't think he was fit for it, accepting Amaranta's curse conditions to have the Spring Court spared from going Under the Mountains, cultivating what felt like close friendships with people under him (including the fairy Feyre shot) and still making an effort (before knowing her) to play nice around a girl who shot a close friend for the sake of freeing his people from the curse. Then in ACOMAF he's a tyrant who doesn't care for his people's financial struggles and just looooves finery and keeping up appearances; like, I don't know who this guy is, but he's not the person we got to know in ACOTAR. Now I admittedly may be biaised because I genuinely grew to be fond of Book1!Tamlin as I was reading. Guy's got a lot of red flags, don't get me wrong, but I always was partial to Beauty and the Beast retellings and romantic buildup based on gradually getting to understand one another. And having Feyre move on would be one thing, but having his entire personality be rewritten to this extent is just sad, especially the way his behaviour outside of Feyre, how he appeared as a ruler and his interactions with his own subjects and entourage, did a complete 180. As a reader I felt like any involvement I'd built over these people's characterization and development in ACOTAR ultimately amounted to nothing, if Tamlin's self could change this much at the drop of a hat (and Tamlin's not the only character flip-flopping in the series, I feel.) -Also lol at the author's -*-constant-*- need to dunk over this fictional man she herself created, from ACOMAF onward. By ACOWAS I was audibly exclaiming 'Stop! Stop! he's already dead!' seeing him on-page; if you know you know. Oo-
4:02:12 SAME ACTUALLY😂 why can't we have more established romances and work through the dynamics of being in a commited relationship? The genre is so explorable and yet these booktok authors often stick to this nonsensical, toxic slow burn with dissapointing payoffs.
So, admittedly I’m one of the ACOTAR girlies watching these videos. I like listening to differing opinions, even if I disagree with some of them. It keeps the ideas fresh and interesting on the mind
The amount of disrespect feyre puts up with is insulting. I dont mind "pushy" male love interests in media i find it hot when the guy knows what he wants but not in an assault kind of way, I mean im writing my own story with that kind of guy but at least he respects the main character enough to actually let her make her own choices, not lie to her, not drug and make her dance for him and finds her super hot when shes being a power bottom!
I applaud you. ❤❤❤ I love hearing acotar/acomaf/SJM rants. I read the first and it made me intensely angry because 1, people told me to read this??? And 2, that i READ it and now that data is in my brain. I just. People love these characters? Can't they just cut out bits of cardboard to wntertain themselves? That being said, I'm pretty sure early in the video you say to check in? So uhm. Are you ok? Are you in an asylum (...with internet)? 😂
Thank you for reading these trash books for me so I don’t have to 😂 I watch these videos like I watch videos roasting love is blind- I absolutely cannot watch these actual show but the entertainment value of a sassy and intelligent roast is 10/10 I love that you include little passages from the book, the writing is shockingly bad
Gurl, I commend you for being able to read this book. I couldn't get past the first few chapters but the anime references were also golden. You're great, Senti, my friend recommended you to me even though she loves these books 😂
I dont care about these books, but i sure af will listen to you rant about them and laugh at what i would also question about the books. For 5 hours lol.
I can't believe you didn’t use a clip of Fairly Odd Parents "fairies explode if they don't grant a wish." When it's explained Reesand (sp?) Has to use his magic or he'll explode.
FACTS
@@ThisIsTheKendom the high lady of autumn wasn’t under the mountain.
He forgave the WAAAAAAY too quick in my opinion. JUSTICEFORTARQUIN!!
honestly, the hypocrisy between how Rhysand's and Feyre's actions are treated by the narrative compared to Tamlin's are really, really infuriating.
Perfectly stated!
This book : You have ptsd ? No problem. Do whatever the face with the biggest ling-a-ding says , you shall be healed by his magic wand . 😁
I remembered I was in a reading slump for a bit and my co-worker recommended these books, so I powered up the kindle and got the bundle of them on sale one day.
And I found that I no longer trusted the reading recommendations of my co-worker.
My coworkers recommended Fourth Wing to me... I really had to bite my tongue on that one
"Feyre, the Cursebreaker and Defender of the Rainbow" sounds like a name for a comic book character concept from fifth grade... or a really weirdly named oc who REALLY needs ppl to know that they're an ally to the LGBTQ+?? idk
Except Feyre isn't a super great ally unfortunately...
It may have been painful to make, but it was fun to watch. The "I'm so done with these stupid fairies" at the end sounded so heartfelt.
SJM is great at writing manipulators. Sadly she doesn't know she's doing it 🤷🏻♂️
So true
Sometimes I can't help but think, did she get into a relationship that was incredible that suddenly turned very sour and a bit abusive ? And then she jumped right onto another one which was so incredibly manipulative that it was hard to detect ? It's a person's real life so I dare not speculate too much , but I don't know how someone can glorify a person as terrible and manipulative as Rhysand ...also , writing Tamlin off comes across as the bitter ex stereotype.
@@Some_guy_passing_bywell she has compared her husband to rhysand...
This is such a good idea tbh. A spooky romantasy would be such a good change of pace.
Screenshotting this cuz I’m gonna need this later,
i couldn’t get anyone to talk shit about the ACOTAR series with me so i had to come to youtube. thank you so much your sacrifice/service, i enjoyed every second. debating on not even reading the third book and just listening to book reviews on it because i cannot go through another shitty book about this world
I recommend reading it for yourself if you have access to it for free because the third book is kind of bonkers. It's also extremely long and mostly boring so I wouldn't spend money purchasing it.

It's so weird to me that the fairies society is patriarchal and so misogynistic in these books, it feels unnatural
The next book in the series is so much worse with that
My theory is that miss mass wrote the society to be so patriarchal so the male leads she likes can be praised for doing the bare minimum
It would be intresting if the fae were so different from humans that the fae society is matriarchal.

“Feywe darwing, welcome to my couwt of nightmawes” KILLED ME

I can kinda understand Nesta being a bitch when Feyre first comes back in this book. Feyre left and Nesta told her the only thing she requests is that Feyre tell her if she survives with her HL and Feyre left her in the dark for how long? Was gonna get married without telling her or Elain but appears with multiple fae (something that humans fear) because she wants something from them now. I'd be pissed too.
I'm actually starting to see Nestas side more and more... which I never thought I'd say
Feyre always acted like she did all the work . I wonder who did the laundry, cleaning the house, cooking etc because Elaine certainly wasn't.
Thanks 😭
I'm a medic (civilian) and I know veterans who can't go to barbecues because the smell of grilling meat reminds them of burnt human flesh - and these are people who only got into self-defense fights! Obviously trauma is very individual and not everyone experiences post-traumatic symptoms in the same way, but the thing with Feyre and killing feels like SJM doesn't understand trauma and just went "well she needs to feel bad about killing the two faeries" but then she just, what, walks it off?
Reminds me of how in Harry Potter, book 5 Harry displays textbook PTSD and the next books just sorta forget about it
Some of her PTSD representation is okay, but she's definitely not consistent with it.
"Girl, are you lactating?" 🤣
'Pen' is actually a much older word and invention than pencil. Pen is what the core of a quill feather was called, and later on we get wooden and metal tipped dip pens for writing with ink.
Other than that, SJM's historical inspirations are complete nonsense.
I like to imagine Rhysand as an Albanian gangsta rap sensation, for all that he stresses his 'Illyrian' heritage.
Scrolled a bit to find something like this and you have my appreciation as someone who Loves dip pens
That aspect disgusted me too
It makes the thing thst everyone loooves this book for, the “healing from trauma” storyline, feel so hollow because she’s still passive and being led by the nose at all times by her big strong man and everything she does is in service of Rhysand. She barely has any other thoughts about anything (except of course herself)
Plus the sheer hypocrisy of this book of how everything Rhysand does and is condoned for, Tamlin is criticized and hated for.
@@Contrarian-v7p I’m aware of that fact.

Your rant on mates pretty much spells out what I hate most about the soulmate trope. Bless
It's definitely not my cup of tea!
Yesss! Jasmine-Jafar dynamic was exactly what I was thinking too with the slave dancing UTM and the Night Court clothes.

Especially with how when Tamlin does something messed up it’s evil and he should throw himself off a cliff. But when Rhys violates Feyre every night Under the Mountain (why is that capitalized?

Not necessarily coloring, but if you do similar coloring books in the future, on pages with a lot of gray or other large blocks of color, you could try using a watercolor wash and then you could color pencil on top of it (to avoid destroying multiple markers). Not sure how that would interact with markers though
That's a great tip!! Coloring large sections with the markers was a total nightmare but a watercolor wash sounds way more manageable

Why does the book of breathing look like how they depict the metal plates that john Smith translates for mormonism?
The fan art you used is so funny😭😭I’m here from the first video in the series because I tried reading ACOTAR and I just could not take it seriously
I have never read these books so maybe they describe them in there, but seeing these coloring book illustrations made me go *wait, is THAT what the wings are meant to look like????*
I always picture fae wings as. you know, more insect like? not those bat or dragon like looking things.
@@sentireads I see 🤔
just came here to say I thoroughly enjoyed watching you color
Thanks for watching!
Spolier: aelin, the protaganist, is falling through dimentions and at one point mentions falling through the sky where shes sees a pregnant brunette woman and a tall dark haired dude with wings who are obviously future feyre and rhysand. so ig theyre all souls falling through universes????
feyre: what’s going on with the king of hyburn
tamlin: don’t worry kitten
feyre: ok ❤ yay ❤
Tad Williams - The War of the flowers - that is what i call Fairy Fantasy. SJM could never…
These fairies are really more like elves. Magic, beautiful, old, pointy ears.
This is my new favourite way to enjoy a genre that i don't like but is everywhere!
I had such brain rot after reading this series… I just started reading again after taking a three month break. It was rough lol
#JusticeForTamlin
I still hate Tamlin, but I hate everyone else just as much lol. He isn't any worse than the rest of them.
As a reader I felt like any involvement I'd built over these people's characterization and development in ACOTAR ultimately amounted to nothing, if Tamlin's self could change this much at the drop of a hat (and Tamlin's not the only character flip-flopping in the series, I feel.)
-Also lol at the author's -*-constant-*- need to dunk over this fictional man she herself created, from ACOMAF onward.
IM SO READY
Thanks for watching ❤️
i love acotar with my whole being but acotar survives on vibes alone
This made me laugh so many times. I love how you roast this. It is my crack.
I didn’t know they were going to be mates. I laughed so hard when I heard you and other UA-camrs say “duh” to that. I had no idea😂
I loved this series, I'm aware it's not perfect. But I love your recaps of them lol.
Came here for the acotar hate, stayed for the coloring
time to draw for 5 hours and listen to you ranting about something idngaf about ✨✨✨
So, admittedly I’m one of the ACOTAR girlies watching these videos.
My favorite thing in the video, while I found the entire thing hilarious, is the burning of the book 😂😂😂
4:05:00 - Oh ur in for a wild ride my friend :D
I know it's coming and I'm so scared 😭
I'm so glad someone hates this series as much as I do haha. Also WHY ARE POPULAR ROMANCE BOOKS GLORIFYING ABUSIVE MEN???!!! UGH
I love your videos so much, thank you for your sacrifice 💗🙏🏼
Thank you for watching!
I'm in the asylum entertaining myself with cardboard cutouts of the inner circle. Cassian keeps stealing my pudding at lunch.
(I'm fine lol)
2:58:39 yall want to forget about in ACOSF Rhys is a horrible person
Please do the next book!
Currently working on the script 😉
i really was not expecting you to burn the pages at the end lmao but i wholeheartedly support that
Thank you for reading these trash books for me so I don’t have to 😂 I watch these videos like I watch videos roasting love is blind- I absolutely cannot watch these actual show but the entertainment value of a sassy and intelligent roast is 10/10
I love that you include little passages from the book, the writing is shockingly bad
Gurl, I commend you for being able to read this book. I couldn't get past the first few chapters but the anime references were also golden. You're great, Senti, my friend recommended you to me even though she loves these books 😂
Yoy roast of the first book was amazing. Can't wait to listen to this one
I’ve had this video on in the background while I clean and it’s so wonderful
5 more hours of pure joy 🤝🏼❤️
3:05:25 spoke to my soul- i would be a lot more invested in this series if it went this direction
3:40:27 Don't worry because he does just that but 1000x times worse in ACOSF.
Admittedly the Roman’s had indoor plumbing…sort of.
