I make my hamburger helper from scratch too. You can use any type of pasta, along with a side salad or veggies... homemade is the best way.

I'll have to try this, looks good. I always add green pepper, onions and diced tomatoes to most regular Hamburger Helpers...it's close to homemade..lol.

Another hit! A big stick-to-your ribs meal! Feeds a crowd, looks yummy and comforting. Way better than the box.
BTW, real paprika has a taste -- actually many different tastes. Some is hot and spicy, so is sweet and tangy, some is even smokey and peppery. The best kind is Hungarian and comes in a can. Costs a bit more than the cheap stuff that just adds color-- but it's fun to use in different ways.

I like that you did the recipe from scratch to show people they don't have to buy that box mix that has 50 chemical ingredients in it that they can't pronounce and it's much healthier! Plus you can make it your own! We used the boxed version for years when I was growing up, this is so much better plus you can add any variety of veggies you want! Thanks so much for showing us that you don't have to be afraid to experiment with recipes and can make them better! No more box mixes!!!

I make a home made hamburger helper too but I don't boil the noodles separately. After the meat is cooked I add spices, milk and water right into the pan and the pasta of choice, stir it all up, cover and simmer until noodles are done, then add the cheese in and stir until melted. One pan and easy as can be! Sometimes I add in frozen peas to the mix. My husband LOVES this.
