@garganrose Im not totally sure why some of the Japanese Famicom games have english texts. I know english is widely spoken in Japan, and from what I've heard a lot of the SIMPLE games have english texts. There are many games with a ton of reading that are all in JAPANESE. I bought Splatter House on Ebay actually. And its "SPLATTER" HOUSE. I spoke wrong on the video and called it slaughter house by mistake. I'm glad you were able to find the Converter!
Like I wrote in the description. It has been found in Gyromite, Hogans Alley, Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, Pinball, Soccer, Stackup. But possibly even other old 5 screw carts
I have located two of those - One Gyro, and one was Soccer...or Tennis...can't remember XD - All you need to check is the pin endings and the cartridge weight - it's amazing. It's a very few grams, but it does feel "bulky". And yes, definitely the first, old carts of 5 screws are candidates for adapter cartridges.
@BigBoss198387 Yes, from what I know, all STACKUP carts have a converter. Actually stackup is somewhat of a rare game. There are many more GYROMITE's out these. A nail filer will work, but it may take a while
@1Sandwitch1 I'm glad it worked! If you have a small screw driver, then its not that tough to get the screws out. So far I've had no scrambling problems, but then again I think between trying to get 2 items to work and using both on a nes there are bound to be occasional glitches & problems. Having said that, I've been pretty lucky, and my FAMICOM games work with 0 problems. Make sure that the game is clean. Because thats probably the source of your problem, if not, it may be your nes
@garganrose Its seems that a ot of JAPANESE games had english text. The converter will not translate games that are written in japanese. As for the 3 screw games, to my knowledge the CONVERTERS were only found in the old 5 screw NO TABS nes cartridges. The lines on the board that I speak of are only a reference to these older games. If you find a game with all of these specs, you should have a converter inside. I have yet to find 1 game that has these specs that didn't have a converter
@duce8585 I use a small flat head screw driver. The old "5 screw" nes games you can use a small phillips head or Flat head screw driver. The later 3 screw games require a special allen wrench
HEy I would like to say THANK you for the tutorial, it works pefectly! My friend baught me a copy of the "special" Gyromite with the converter, getting those screws out was a pain in the ass XD and ya I got a copy of Final Fantasy 2 Famicom and it took sometime to get it working properly the graphics kept scrambling on me
@SsjSned Yes, from what I understand it is reversable. But I'm not ure if you have to take out the NES GAME BOARD in order to connect it to the converter to be able to play the NES game on your Famicom
@kaiserwilhelm i don't know... because it used to work in my aunt's NES but not in ours. I was actually using a converter that was baught in a small game store at a flee market. Famicom converter model:KC-60. It never ever worked in ours. The screen would just flash forever but my aunt had one of the very first NES that came out and it worked in hers... so i always thought maybe you need to have an earlier model? i really dont know
@russell56443 Cool, I'm glad my video helped. Once you are familiar with them, its easy to spot them. You can't judge by weight with the later games. But now if I see a NON TAB game with 5 screw, I can tell by just holding the games. Of course I look at the BOARD in the light to be 100% sure. BUT like I said the weight is a dead give away to me now that I've seen alot of these. I recently got 2 Hogans Alleys & 1 Gyromite with converters, & the weight was massive for just 3 games!
@xodusattack I went to the Play & Trade in my area today and with your video's help was able to grab the 1 Gyromite with the converter out of 5 carts with no problem and I got it for $2.99 :0) Checked all the games out and that was the only one in the store with the converter lol,Im going to be looking for these babies every where I go!
@xodusattack "2" copies of Hogan's Alley with converters?! Great job! Apparently, I had 2 FA Gyromite, and 1 FA Hogan's Alley. Hogan's Alley has more FA cartridges than I thought. FA = Famicom Adapter
@pennylane4100 As far as I know, you can find the converter only in american cartridges, so you need one of those. Obviously you have to mod the nes (the lockout chip) to play famicom games.
@xodusattack you were right i just found a copy of hogan's alley with the converter inside only 6 bucks. but any idea why japanese games have english text and also ware did you get slaughter house? it looked like fun.
Easiest way to tell is get a light look in the end of the game where the connector lines are on the cart that would connect to the nes system. Most of your nes games have a little tail coming off the middle of each pin but the ones with it on the ends/sides of the pins have the adapters. Only zelda and kid icarus is the only 2 I have found that might have them and not have the adapter. BTW Stack up and gyromite is going to be your best chance of getting one.
Nicholas Todd Lots of nes games still have the "little tail" Out of all my 500 something games, many have the so called tail. Again, these were only found in old "BLACK BOX" nes games....and the first run of them at that. 5 screws is a must! From there if u look inside (I can do it in a normal lit room without a light, but a flash light would be an easier alternative). From what I know, every Stackup has a converter inside. I have found tons in gyromite, duck hunt, hogans alley, and pinball. But they have been found in many other old 5 screw black box nes titles.
I have a doctor mario and pinball and both has the little tails in the pins , but only pinball has the adapter ,plus pinball is five screw ,dr mario 3 screw
Thanks man! I just got a few famicom games.today and.i just so happen to have two gyromite games with the converter and.i seen your video and now im playing Dragonball on my nes haha thanks!
I have a copy of Pinball and a copy of tetris. I wondered why Pinball felt strange compared to Tetris. So if I unscrew it and it doesn't have a converter, will it still work if I put it back on? And also, I have a Box NES, so how will I be able to skip the 10NES chip?
So just one question.... I made my own case for my converter by cutting apart a copy of the many Gyromites I had just so it looks nice and protects the hardware etc etc and I dont have a toploader I have a toaster (original NES) and I have problems getting the game back out cuz it's so far in... have you had this problem? I had to wedge it out and it wasn't easy....
+Atari-Dude 1 Good question. The converter has a really tight fit into the game, so it will depend on which has the tighter fit hahaha. I would judge it yourself since you know your own system. Most likely you should be ok though
+xodusattack It works! - But some games like Wagyan Land 2 won't work on it because it seems to be too large for the NES... Is there any way to get past that?
so i got one one of these in an old copy of pinball. took it out, tryed a couple famicom games on it, and could never get it to work. ya think it could be because im not useing a original nintendo. im trying to get it working on an FC twin. plays bot NES and SNES. im sure its not a lisenced nintendo product... but anyway, think that may be the reason?
You will do no damage to the game by unscrewing it. Check it out,...if it has the "black adapter" inside, then you have a famicom converter. Its up to you at that point if you want to do what I did in the video, or just screw it back together and leave the game as is. If you decide to do what I did in the video, you can then play any famicom game through your nes without modifying the NES system itself.
Could you avoid trimming the converter by taking the famcom chip out and replacing the gyromite chip with it? You could also maybe put the whole thing in an NES case and make a custom label
Do you only shave the side so it isn't sharp, how much should i shave off the converter? Also, can you put the nes game back into working condition after using the converter?
Ohhh boy! I can't wait to get a Wrecking Crew or Baseball cartridge with this in it so I can play Famicom stuff like Mother and Fire Emblem! But I do have some concerns... How difficult is it to take the Famicom game when you have it in the converter out of your top loader NES? Do I have to worry about trying not to break the 72 pin chip?
2 questions 1 when you were playing slaughter house other than title screen the text was all english does that mean theconverter also translates or was that just that game? and 2 i went to an old comic book store and i saw a cartridge that had those lines on the side like you said but it had 3 screws and tabs do you think it may have had a converter inside?
Can you play in ANY nintendo or only the early ones? I used to have a converter with the ribbon and all but it has never ever worked in my NES. Please reply! Thanks!!
@1Sandwitch1 Hmmm. Its really tough to say. I would suggest getting another famicom game, and seeing if you can play it without problems. If your still getting glitches, then I would have to guess its either the system or the converter itself. I hope that helps. Its process of elimination, and its a pain!
actually Im using the dumb Yobo Top loader which is pretty crappy, and I guess its possible that I got to clean the Famicom cartridge...but I doubt its that since I only removed it once from the converter, if anything its the system which is brand new, infact my saved game was erased!....what do you make of that?...It scrambled again and erased my saved game I had on FF2 Famicom. and I put it into the system right and it doesnt do any good it rarely works right away...it
Haha awesome. I live in europe, so basicly if we dont have the hidden converter i gotta take it out of a US game, put it on my famicom game, and then put it in my USA to EUR converter :)
Are the famicom games region locked after doing this? I mean that in the sense of will they only play on NTSC nes consoles or will they work on PAL too?
A. It's Splatterhouse B. As long as you don't care for games with expansion audio, like Castlevania 3, Madara, Lagrange point, Gimmick, Mappy Kids, etc., then you're fine. The size of the pin adapters should work with all other famicom games.
If you know of any that are cheap, I can buy one and test it out. I believe these are the later famicom games. Any word if the sound will play with this sort of converter?
Oh OK, haha, yea that is a bit confusing. I have never tested these converters in that way before. I guess if you can do it cheaply, then go for it, and hopefully it works for you!
@bastarddarsh I am no expert or anything, but I believe the BILL HEATH LASER was meant to shoot a dime, and that it is unable to shoot any other form of currency
You probably just shave off enough to fit the Famicom game over the converter, and yes, the NES would be able to work if you put it back in the converter and screwed in the ROM.
I have an idea, Take a famicom converter, take a SMB2 (J) copy, take them apart so only the electronic boards are exposed, then take Gyromite, put Smb2 (J) and the famicom converter, screw it in, Print a label that says SMB2 (J), there, you can play SMB2 (J) in an Nes and your friends will be surprised :)
The US version was actually released in Japan as "Super Mario Bros. US." Also, taking out the motherboard of a famicom cartridge is a NIGHTMARE! The cartridge shell is a snap-together model, and isn't usually held in by any screws.

I guess its also possible that something was wrong with the converter in the 1st place. I hope this helps! Goodluck!
This is one of the MOST USEFUL video game how to's on YT!!
I knew about this, but still a good video to check if you have placed the parts right and in the right way.
@garganrose Im not totally sure why some of the Japanese Famicom games have english texts. How do you go about removing the converter from your NES when it slips away from the Famicom cart?
There's also a 72 pin to 60 pin connector inside of Excite Bike.
@pennylane4100 As far as I know, you can find the converter only in american cartridges, so you need one of those.
Obviously you have to mod the nes (the lockout chip) to play famicom games.

xodusattack yes i think all games have the tail its where its located is what you have to look for. On the side on a pin not in the center.
xodusattack Just bought Stack-Up today and immediately wondered why the game felt so heavy. It has the converter...now that I know what that means.
Very cool. That is somewhat of a rare game too! Like I said, Im pretty sure all stackups have converters in them
I have a doctor mario and pinball and both has the little tails in the pins , but only pinball has the adapter ,plus pinball is five screw ,dr mario 3 screw

Hi, I have a question about this. My NES is PAL B. Can I use any region gyromite cart, or do I have to find a PAL B one?
You will do no damage to the game by unscrewing it. Check it out,...if it has the "black adapter" inside, then you have a famicom converter. Ugh. Opened wreaking crew with all 5 screws, no tabs, and NO CONVERTER. Only thing left is gumshoe to try.
Can you reverse the Bill Heath laser to shoot pennies?
Can you play in ANY nintendo or only the early ones? I used to have a converter with the ribbon and all but it has never ever worked in my NES. Please reply! Thanks!!
@1Sandwitch1 Hmmm. Its really tough to say.

can u reverse it and play US nes games on a Famicon system?
@Back2DaFuture98 Why do they do that?
@russell56443
No problem, I hope the video helps.
This revelation is so awesome that I just shit my pants.
actually Im using the dumb Yobo Top loader which is pretty crappy, and I guess its possible that I got to clean the Famicom cartridge...but I doubt its that since I only removed it once from the converter, if anything its the system which is brand new, infact my saved game was erased!....what do you make of that?...It scrambled again and erased my saved game I had on FF2 Famicom. and I put it into the system right and it doesnt do any good it rarely works right away...it
is the bare board fragile? i know you said it is pretty sturdy physically but will it be okay against static electricity?
Its not that fragile. I mean, id avoid any static electricity against a circuit board. But I personally wouldn't worry about it much at all
would this work on PAL Nes?
Haha awesome. I live in europe, so basicly if we dont have the hidden converter i gotta take it out of a US game, put it on my famicom game, and then put it in my USA to EUR converter :)
Do you still have the Gyromite PCB?
Are the famicom games region locked after doing this? I mean that in the sense of will they only play on NTSC nes consoles or will they work on PAL too?
+Elliott Green This is a GREAT question, and to be honest I do not know the answer. Maybe someone else can help answer this
you need a PAL Gyromite copy or a disabled 10nes chip.
SanicDatEXE Oh right that makes a lot of sense to be fair. Thank you for letting me know! :)
Glad we got an answer. THANKS SANIC!
+xodusattack no problem.
It scrambles at least 10 times before the game works properly...
will all famicom games not fit or is it just the unusual ones like slaughterhouse
A. It's Splatterhouse
B. As long as you don't care for games with expansion audio, like Castlevania 3, Madara, Lagrange point, Gimmick, Mappy Kids, etc., then you're fine. The size of the pin adapters should work with all other famicom games.
@TOMATOEE99 its called a super 8 it plays famicomm and nes games
Hey, does that converter ever get stuck in your NES since the pins are exposed?
Man I miss the days when you could just buy tons of retro games for not alot of money...Not so common these days. (At least for me)
I hear you. I use to buy 20 to 25 games every weekend at the flea markets in NY. All 2 dollars a game or so. Those were the days!
This is an awesome experiment, but when you play the game, there are white lines going across the screen. Why does that happen?
That was only due to my Nintendo. I was using the rf cable and a newer tv. So the reception was bad
Hmm do you know of any other way to play Famicom games on a PAL Nintendo?
TRY IT OUT WITHA FAMICOM GAAME TAHT HAS THE FM SOUND CHIP
If you know of any that are cheap, I can buy one and test it out. I believe these are the later famicom games. Any word if the sound will play with this sort of converter?
I have duck hunt and its in there. Just didnt know how to use it. Thanks a lot.
you can get a reproduction of this game on retrousb
@pennylane4100
Thats a good question that I honestly cannot answer. Maybe someone else can chime in
It should fit all famicom games to my knowledge
Oh OK, haha, yea that is a bit confusing. I have never tested these converters in that way before. I guess if you can do it cheaply, then go for it, and hopefully it works for you!
Thanks!
@bastarddarsh
I am no expert or anything, but I believe the BILL HEATH LASER was meant to shoot a dime, and that it is unable to shoot any other form of currency
Yea, like the other youtube user said, just open it up and check. Sounds lie you may have one inside
that is awesome
dramos ramos Thanks. Yea, I think it is really coo that these are hidden in some of the old NES games.
That is an awesome idea!
I thought SMB2 (J) was only released for the Famicom Disk System...
psycho81212 I discovered that after posting the comment, but I didn't bother to change it, lol
The US version was actually released in Japan as "Super Mario Bros. US." Also, taking out the motherboard of a famicom cartridge is a NIGHTMARE! The cartridge shell is a snap-together model, and isn't usually held in by any screws.
Thosed bastards some me comming a mile away lol my game store takes the adapters out
Nice
This guy's voice sounds cool.
hahahaha THANKS BRO!
@damienmetalwind
Well, I'm no expert by any means. I would try to put it in your front loader without the game geanie and see if its still giving you problems. Also try a different famicom game and see what happens. Your best bet would be to try it every way possible to find out what is causing these issues.
I guess its also possible that something was wrong with the converter in the 1st place.
I hope this helps! Goodluck!
@johneymute Does anybody know what this guy is talkin about ^
Just keep squeezing it till it pops out.
@Wallcrawler THANKS MAN!!!
I like how anyone says it wont break and then the sad part it does break lol
Seems like a lot of work. Why not just buy a Honeybee converter? Also, you won’t have to ruin an antique.
Kool video though.
nevermind, sorry. i never thought about putting it in backwards. thanks tho.
Great video, buta lot of potato chip bag crumpling going on
by this game i mean slaughterhouse
dude dont use RF use the yellow cables on you're nintendo
+Juan “TheGeekPlayer” Salazar hahaha you are right...this was done just for a quick test video ;)
+xodusattack so those white lines at the top and the bottom of the screen are there because of the rf?
yea pretty sure I did this on my top loader
xodusattack oh then you can only use rf alright context is always important
No problem, yes, I should have mentioned that this was using the top loader, so I had no choice ;)
this is cheaper
@bastarddarsh Lmao
@bastarddarsh I think Bill Heath dead!
Just buy a Famicom Jesus!
I'm not going to deal with an AWFUL rf signal, and the Bull that comes with turning to channel 95 or 96 on a US telivision.
It is not so easy young man!
You have a weird accent
hahahaha! thanks
Hey man that is not cool
Or just buy a real convertor
+Bass Hunter (Zak Bailey) not as much fun
