    Five years later and this floor still looks like it did on install day. Even with three cars and a lot of shadetree mechanic-ing going on!

    I don’t think thebliked the top coat and had to rip it off with a special grinder machine it turns it into dust but btw when rolling it it’s a high gloss sealer you have to do stokes all the way down exactly like if your painting a door with semi gloss paint full strokes down to avoid getting any weird lines with lighting

    Questions: Why isn't it necessary to etch, besides diamond grinding? What was that first coat you applied?

    • @Marty77779
      @Marty77779 4 роки тому

      the grinder takes off the top layer so theres nothing left to etch. etching is an alternative to grinding cut takes too long as you have to wait for it to dry plus grinding removes uneven parts. IO think this floor had a coat on already so it had to be grinded

      I started grinding with a 7 inch angle grinder. That'll take forever! I'm so frustrated! Lol

    Great job. I learned of MMA as the best product to repair cracks, much better than epoxys, polyureas or polys. What is the main goal of MMA in garage coating applications?

    • @rjsanders1981
      @rjsanders1981 4 роки тому

      The main goal of the MMA coating system is to have a floor that looks new for the lifetime of the home. Also the 8 hour install time with 1 hour full cure is a great bonus.

    Could you help me please? Previous owner painted garage with color and H&C oil based concrete sealer. He didn’t do great job. Some areas are dry and some are wet look. It’s fairly new he did it one week before he sold house to me. No cars were driven yet.
    My question is: what can I do now to fix it? Could I use clear epoxy to make it more even and make more shine? Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

    • @rjsanders1981

      It sounds like it needs another coat. I would apply another coat of the sealer and it should even out the sheen. Very easy to do, if questions call me at 503-626-2002.

    what did that job coast?

    • @rjsanders1981
      @rjsanders1981 5 років тому

      typically it's about $1,500 per vehicle bay in the garage. So standard two car around $3,000, and 3 car around $4,500. It all depends on your square footage though.

    Awesome video. Great job!. I have a couple question. Whats the working time once materials are mixed and what size notch squeege ?

    • @JowRule
      @JowRule 6 років тому +1

      Working time with MMA's are typically 15-20 minutes. Once the initiator is added you are on the clock. Depends on the system, here they are just using a gauge rake which is similar to a cam rake. I have seen some installs go in with an 1/8" notched squeegee though, just depends on the thickness you want/need.

    • @rjsanders1981
      @rjsanders1981 6 років тому +2

      I was the installer on this. We did not use a gauge rake, we used an 18 inch roller to spread and back roll each coat. Once you mix up the activator into the MMA material you have about 10 minutes to get it down and spread out. It will fully cure in about 25-30 minutes depending on the temperature.

    Isn’t that shit flammable as hell? It sounds similar to a product we use on bridge decks to seal cold joints between different pours.

    • @rjsanders1981
      @rjsanders1981 5 років тому

      Not really, only if you hold a flame to it. Once cured and installed it's a 100% solid and not flammable.

    • @greenidguy9292
      @greenidguy9292 5 років тому

      @@rjsanders1981 I meant during installation, not the finished product. Obviously if the finished product was "flammable as hell" it wouldn't be allowed to be used inside inhabited structures. I'm pretty sure you knew what I meant, but I'll play and elaborate for you.

    • @dansmith9421
      @dansmith9421  7 років тому +2

      This was a 3-car garage and it cost a little over $4k. That was by far the most expensive bid I got, but this is special stuff (MMA). I got epoxy and polyaspartic bids ranging from about $2.2K to $3.8k. None of those were going to be this many layers, thickness, nor warranted to this level.

    There is no way that the job can be done in the same day. The ideal world would be a 3 days process respecting the drying time of the epoxy along with the concrete. Wait a couple months and the epoxy will peel off.

    • @dansmith9421
      @dansmith9421  5 років тому +1

      You might want to re-read the description and other comments. This is not epoxy, it's MMA - a totally different material and process. It's been in place two years this month, with nearly year-round non-trivial hobby automotive work being done on the floor and it looks almost like the day they laid it down. Definitely zero peeling.
