I love when Kramer leaves Jerry’s apartment, as soon as he opens the door, he gets knocked back as if the red light hit him that hard. Then he walks into it as if he was going against a strong wind. 😅. Hilarious!
Yes, Kenny Rogers Roasters was a real chicken chain, and oh my god, it was delicious!!! I used to eat there every Friday, and I still miss that place. It was cooked on rotisseries over hickory wood (I think), and Kacee will be happy to learn that their slogan really was "It's the wood that makes it good." (At 7:07 you can see it on the sack beside Kramer.) I did finally quit sitting at my window sill calling "Kenny? ... KENNY??" but I still wish he'd come back.
If you ever travel to some parts of asia (or Dubai) you can still eat at Kenny Rogers as it's now owned by a Malaysian company. Wikipedia lists the following places: "Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, China, Indonesia, India, Brunei, Cambodia, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Thailand (Phuket)".
I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. Rock was never my bag. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library, fella.
Yeah, it’s insanely popular in the Philippines apparently lol. I remember having one in my small town in the 90’s and it was really good actually. You could smell the chicken roasting a block away.
And for more context, it went bankrupt and was bought by Nathan's Famous. The company closed Kenny Rogers Roasters for the same reason the bankruptcy occurred: rotisserie chicken became a staple in supermarkets and Kenny Rogers became seen as overpriced. When the US market dried up, Nathan's Famous sold Kenny Rogers Roasters to their Asian franchisee.
Oh man mine too. Funny story, I work in master control at my local FOX station and whenever we get that episode in syndication I always fast forward to the end and watch it.
The Kenny Rogers Roasters storyline was based on a real incident that I'd read about before this episode came out. A New York lawyer had the same grievance with that restaurant as Kramer and hung a similar sign out his window in protest.
Love it! I wish you guys hadn't skipped over so many iconic episodes, like the first one back of the season "The Foundation," or "The Library," and so on, but what you are watching is great. And yes, Kenny Rogers Roasters was incredible! They opened one in our town in the early 90s and chicken was heavenly, and the best sweet cornbread I've ever had. Ours closed in 2002 or 2003, and we were all just like Kramer, just sadly lamenting the loss of a great chicken place.
This is one of my favorite episodes, so many random plots; the Jerry-Kramer switch, the clock, the hat, his old friend getting fired twice, mr marbles, by Mennen!… plus that chicken always looks delicious. Makes me hungry 😅
Still haven't done "The Cheever Letters"? Gotta do that one. That one has Julia's favorite scene from the whole series and one of the biggest laughs the series ever had.
I think they watched "The Pilot" on Patreon and have chosen not to port it to UA-cam. I know for sure they watched a few episodes and did not put the reaction on UA-cam; Anthony has said as much once or twice.
Season 5-9 ARE ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! PLEASE DONT STOP AT THIS SEASON. Watch every episode from season 5 and up. If not ur missing toooo much good stuff.
Shame they skipped so far ahead. The Bob Sacramento joke has better payoff if you heard Kramer mention him multiple episodes. Not to mention meeting Peterman for the first time.
These episodes are over the top crazy and zany. I like them more. People are snobby about the more smart comedy in the early years but these latter episodes have some amazing Kramer. Which, is the best part of the series
The seasons without Larry David as show runner, producer, writer definitely feel different but they’re still funny but I think it’s only because the characters had been established and the public had become attached to them. If the show started like this I don’t think it would have found the same success. If you really want to see the comedy genius of Larry David watch Curb Your Enthusiasm. Absolutely hilarious. And they only work off a rough outline and almost everything is improv shot from all angles and then edited together with the best takes. But same sort of plot lines as the earlier Seinfeld seasons. And if you didn’t know, the character of George played by Jason Alexander is actually based off of Larry David. He even had some of the ridiculous things that happened to George actually happen to him in real life.
Ahh, Kenny Rogers' Roasters, i remember this restaurant chain from the 1990's. There was one in Burbank near NBC Studios and it was good chicken, but the chain went bankrupt as it could not compete with other chicken restaurants at the time like Boston Market, El Pollo Loco and others. Kenny lost money in the whole venture and the company was sold to a Malaysia-based company, so now it only exists in Asia.
I went to see a chicago play in dc and john o'hurley was in it and that guy is legitimately funny. There was a scene where he was between two girls mad at each other and one goes after the other and jumps on him with a leg over each shoulder. He put her down and says well i just got a peak at the promise land 😂
The difference of the seasons you are talking about is that the last two seasons is Jerry Seinfeld took over the writing. I personally think the episodes are better.
One of the best. Thanks for reacting to it. The Newman broccoli rant is priceless and shows why he was such a great character and you have to love Mr. Marbles. Should watch the episode where Elaine dates Keith Hernandez. Newman is great there.
I had an econ professor who had came to the US from Yugoslavia. His past-time was persuading corporate big-box store managers to haggle. His success was about 70%. A TV and several furniture items were points of pride for him.
The difference this season is with Larry David on board the stories were more reality-based. Without Larry the stories are more cartoonish. More in line with Jerry’s style of humor.
I haven't watched the whole show, just random episodes from different seasons and despite not knowing this episode was from the last seasons without Larry David I could already tell it felt, like you said, more cartoonish, more over the top than usual. Even the Elaine subplot, which is supposed to be the more grounded one, ends with the Myanmar bit out of nowhere 😂
I've been a grilled chicken sandwich guy for about the past 2 and a half decades, long before the chicken sandwich craze. Anyways, Kenny Rogers roast chicken was nice, they closed them all down though in. However, they are still popular in China.
Peterman was doing his Col. Kurtz call-back, you know - from APOCALYPSE NOW. You need to do THE KEYS, THE TRIP (pt. 1) and THE TRIP (pt. 2) - they're all related, chronologically.
The episode's writers really did have a super casual, not that close acquaintance who blew off a very important meeting over an offhand invitation to lunch with hem. He didn't get fired right away, but didn't last much longer.
There was a fantastical element to this episode. Jerry and Kramer switching places, Mr marbles at the end. We never found out what happened to the hat either. Lack of Larry might have something to do with those.
that last scene reminded me of when, one time i was in my grandmas basement, and she was very old and walked slow, but she was also very nosy, and she mustv wanted to see something outside her window upstairs, and i heard her go pattering across the house so fast that it creeped me out
Elaine tried to replace the sable hat with a rat hat, the same way she tried to replace Peterman's antique cake with a grocery cake. These are recurring themes in Elaine's life.
Larry David leaving made the show shift into a more cartoonish style. Season 9 gets even more cartoonish but then the second to last episode of the series goes back to how it used to be under David and then David wrote the ever divisive finale
Larry David left but returned for the Seinfeld Season 9 finale episode. You can tell it's just Jerry writing Season 8 and 9 because they are little more goofy and more light-hearted. Larry had a more darker undertone to his humor. I still think 8 and 9 have really great and funny episodes, but you can definitely tell the shift in writing/
Larry David focused on small things, he always said that was the secret sauce of the show. When he left, they started to do big things, like Elaine going to Myanmar for Peterman's signature, something Larry would never do.
If Larry David had still been doing the show, I think he would've played on the line about maybe the house keeper took the hat. One of the final scenes would've shown the house keeper sitting in her apartment wearing the hat.
Hi guys. Love the Seinfeld episode. Thanks for posting. I got one for ya. I'm selling canned air from the 80's. One whiff and your back to were you weren't even born yet. LA scent coming soon.
You guys are great, I love watching you react to Seinfeld, and other shows. Have you two watched, "My Name Is Earl?" another favourite of mine, It's just 4 seasons I believe.
I ate at Kenny Rogers Roasters once in the 90s. The wood definitely made the chicken good! There was like a whole rotisserie chicken war back then. Boston Chicken, Kenny Rogers, and KFC all competed to have the best chicken. I do miss KFC's rotisserie gold chicken.
One of my favorite chicken sandwiches of the past was a tender roast sandwich at KFC. I take it that Kacee has never heard of roast chicken, thus she doesn't know that it's not fried. It's closer to grilled than fried.

The Peterman angle in Myanmar is a parody of Apocalypse Now and Marlon Brando's Kurtz character. The horror! The horror!
There's a wonderful video posted in Yaron Baruch's channel, showing Seinfeld movie references.

My favorite Jerry scene in the entire series. - I’m on no sleep!! No sleep!!
Oh, I'm stressed.
I hope you guys don't stop the Seinfeld reactions. I was an avid fan of the show. In KC's reactions are priceless
The library episode should be on the list
It has the best secondary character in the entire series. Bookman!
It has the best secondary Seinfeld character in the entire series! Bookman!
Why, because it has Joyboy Jerry and his good time buddies in it?
I don't judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. Rock was never my bag. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library, fella.
Every episode is on the list.
Kenny Rogers Roasters was a real chain, it actually still exists but only in Asia these days weirdly enough. It was kind of like Boston Market.
I managed a Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurant when this episode came out.
Yeah, it’s insanely popular in the Philippines apparently lol. I remember having one in my small town in the 90’s and it was really good actually. You could smell the chicken roasting a block away.

@Mycroft616 I was offered to buy the restaurant I managed in 1997, but I declined because we were quickly losing business.
Kramer and Jerry changing characters is the funniest part for me lol
"You seem stressed"
"Oh I'm stressed" lol

Great ep 😅 the last scene with Elaine and peterman is an apocalypse now reference. I love when seinfeld did stuff like that.
9:25 Every Extra looking to see if WAYNE is okay.... Great acting..

The story about the friend who blew off a big meeting to have lunch actually happened with one of the writers. Yes, that friend was fired, as well.
"What's going on here?"
"Blood for the Blood God, Jerry"
the meme I've seen most is Newman's "Vile weed!"
