The humble maggot is the most synonymous bait of all time, ask any non-angler what you use to catch a fish and the vast majority of them would suggest maggots as their first option. Maggots are indeed one of the greatest baits of all time, and they certainly have their place in carp fishing. Where allowed maggots tend to be a must have item in your tactics, but with so many variations to the methods of their use, you can easily get it wrong. We asked Gaz Fareham to take on Linear Fisheries’ St Johns during the early part of spring, and of course he chose maggots as his favoured tactic. We may find pretty soon a law banning all lead products that are lost in the environment! Shooting is voluntary sorting itself out before being forced. So we will be having a hard time with weights not made of lead! And you can be sure the EA will be enforcing this.
