    This is one I built as a kid, as well... You did a fine job rebuilding yours and certainly fixed a lot of the flaws in that old AMT. Movin' On was always my favorite, for I never really got into some of the others that came out after that. There certainly wasn't anyone quite like Claude Akins, either (miss him!). I guess I can blame Will and Sonny for being bad influences, for after ten years of starvation-pay in radio stations, I ended up in an '89 cabover as a first truck in '93 and have mostly driven since then (30 years disappeared quickly). lol After a couple of years hauling windmill blades, I returned to the North Dakota oilfield driving winch trucks and we've got an old spring-ride truck that reminds me of these old tractors, for they'll beat you to death after a day on the dirt lease roads.
    Enough rambling, though... Loved seeing this old kit rebuilt and upgraded! You did a fine job with her. Well done!

    Wow man this looks fantastic. This video popped up and I had to check it out. I still have my Movin On truck built and preserved, and I also thought of restoring. Bought it back when the TV show was on prime time (74/75) with money earned mowing lawns. Was very disappointed that the sleeper was the wrong size. I would love to see this kit get rereleased.

    I remember getting this kit as soon as it came out as a kid in the 70's. Loved the TV show. Naturally i butchered it and assembled it unpainted lol.
    I now have an original sealed kit in my collection that i just look at now and then .

    You got that pretty much spot on! The old AMT kit captures the W925 perfectly, but it's great that you took the time to build it as the double sleeper Sonny had. I still watch Movin'On on UA-cam just for that truck.

    Your model is perfect. But I've noticed one small detail from the old TV series. There were two extra mud guard support struts attached between the wheel fenders and the fuel tanks of the original truck. When Sunny is not hauling any cargo he takes the the mud guards off from the rear of the truck and attaches them to those struts in the middle of the chassis, when he's holding any type of cargo large or small he attaches them to the rear of the truck.

    Watched this and your Challenge mixer resto. Question to you and to AMT all these years really; Why not swap out the rear suspensions of both kits? Correct your Movin' on with the Torsion from Mixer, correct the mixer with Hendrickson from Movin' on kit? This shuda been done by AMT back in the 70's...

    • @72deanpaz
      @72deanpaz  4 роки тому

      Yeah, I didn't start the MO until the mixer was finished and hadn't done the research yet. I did consider it later but there was so much glue that I probably would have ruined at least one of them. I experienced that when removing another KW suspension for use on my snorkel build. Couldn't separate the susp and had to ruin the frame. Ended up using the undamaged frame sections for the mixer bumper and the MO frame extension so not a total waste!

    You didnt go into great details on how you stretch out the sleeper. That would have been nice to see for my Movin On kit.

    • @72deanpaz
      @72deanpaz  7 місяців тому

      I re-used all of the parts from the original sleeper. The only thing I added were two pieces of styrene for the sides and a middle section of the roof, which I formed by clamping a piece of 0.040" styrene sheet to that wooden block I carved out. Then I immersed it in boiling water so it would retain the shape.

  • @Dnyce261

    • @72deanpaz
      @72deanpaz  4 роки тому +1

      I use a small file on the thick glue & paint first, then 120 grit sandpaper if needed for multiple paint layers and then wet sand to get to the bare plastic or until smooth. I used a lot of glue and several layers of paint when I was a kid!
