    The way we do extended family meals-typically for 20-25 people-is whoever is hosting cooks the main course, and everyone else brings sides and dessert. It’s just so much easier that way than one person bearing all the responsibility. For me, honestly, the hardest part of hosting a large gathering is cleaning the house! I’m exhausted from cleaning before I even begin cooking, lol!

    • @marissasharp9892
      @marissasharp9892 2 роки тому +5

      That’s what we do, too! People usually volunteer to bring sides and desserts or punch/sodas.

    When I have a bunch of recipes for a big cooking day, I tape them to the cabinet at eye level. It's so helpful to not have to touch them while I'm elbow deep in sticky and wet.

      I use a magnet and secure mine to the hood fan for the same reason. I have seen people use a pant/skirt hanger to hold their recipes also, if they can hang it to a cabinet handle. Counter space is too precious to clutter with paper or recipe books. 😉

    I've been making family holiday dinners for about 25 people since I was 15 (almost 15 years) and it's still an absolute crap show that tests my relationships with everyone in the house, sometimes there are tears. My husband has learned the fine balance of both helping me and staying out of my way. One day I'll get better at it I swear lol

      I have been the same for years 😂 until about a year ago I was like, what’s the point of all of this work if I’m not going to enjoy it? So I have gotten so much better at not letting the stress of the work get to me!

    • @rebekahdeere
      @rebekahdeere 2 роки тому

      Sooo true! I would enjoy it if everyone else stayed out of the kitchen. It’s so chaotic and they want to taste everything when it isn’t even cooked yet.

      You dont need to promise to "get better". You are already hosting a dinner for 25 (!!!!!!!) people by yourself. This is a massive job. And husband isn't helping, he is just doing his part. Please be kind to yourself ♥️

  • @MadisonFalcoFoods

    And just BE CALM❤️ when you’re making a whole bunch of food, give yourself grace and be kind. Know that you will get it done and you will feed your people
    What I do when I stress myself in the kitchen is take a step back and just breathe for a moment and then jump back in :)

    I have been folowing you for years. This is my first comment. I want to let you know that you are such an inspiration. The quote about how you eat an elephant, how you can overcome huge tasks by 30 sek a day, using the time when you are waiting for the microwave etc. Has been a game chancer for me. And of course how you are a real person, not afraid to let us see you when you just wake up in the morning or the mess beside your table while doing a q and a. Thank you 💜 // Lena

    That dinner turned out really good. Having freezer-made sides such as the potatoes was very smart (less prep time). Personally I would have made the rolls the day before to save time (and that was funny when the dough expanded and overflowed). And Priya helping you was so helpful.

    You blew my mind with the ham glazing. I have never sliced it and glazed prior to baking and it just makes so much more sense I mean the glaze is where all the delicious flavour is! This Christmas I’m trying this method! Today for Mother’s Day I’m making bbq prawns with garlic butter and mussels in red sauce with salad and garlic bread on the side for 8 people.

      The ham she got was a precut cured spiral ham that came with a glaze mix, which is standard. You do not glaze when the ham is done, if you have a packet given, follow its instructions. They usually have the glaze applied before, or in the middle of cooking

    Did you have enough food? Sometimes your meals and dishes look like not enough food for a family of ten. That seemed like a very small salad, and ham. I suppose you dole out small portions and can count on kids eating smaller amounts, but I personally would rather have extra, than not enough.

    • @NadiaSeesIt
      @NadiaSeesIt 2 роки тому

      It's that kind of thinking that makes kids overweight. Her children are happy and healthy. Half of the family is 6 or under, why are you giving adult portions to 2 year olds?
