Cook is often thought to be a dull batsman. I think that's unfair. He might not bat like Gower but there's something pleasing about him, and that straight drive off the back foot was pure class.

Making big scores both in England and overseas, an average in the mid 40s (an allowance must be made for an England batsman who obviously has to play so much in English conditions), all major England batting records smashed. Definitely qualifies as a great. I’d say the only two genuine batting greats England have produced since Boycott are Gooch, Pietersen and Cook.
