- Bangkok's Sathorn district is full of stuff you won't find in tourist areas ....it has been Bangkok's most prestigious district for many years. It is rich in money, power, high rollers, high society,, expensive property and land prices. Also many historical events in Sathorn have shaped the way Bangkok has evolved into the modern metropolis it is today. I took a walk down the first part of Sathorn Road from Lumpinee to Chong Nonsi and found a lot to show and tell you all about.

Best historical videos of Bangkok for sure.
Professional Quality every single time.
His video editing is really an inspiration.
Absolutely agree.
Outstanding work. You continue to push the bar higher. Absolutely the best Bangkok YT channel for true lovers of the Kingdom🙏🙏 But please 😫 stop giving away our non tourist secrets🤣🤣🙏
Really enjoyed this. Looking forward to part two.
So interesting to see the old village photos of neighborhoods before being transformed into skyscrapers. Thanks for the research and historical stories!
Cheers Anton 😎🐱
Yes, those are great to see. I wish I could have started my BKK adventure 50-90 years earlier, but you get what you get.
I juat want to say THANK YOU, really enjoy your videos, I have been to Bangkok 3 times and cant wait to go back really really like this city!
Hard to believe this area was all farmland and villages. Exponential growth, even in the 20 years since I first lived there.
A tremendous programme, as usual. Your script with it's wry humour is the icing on the cake.
Cheers Carl🐱
Amazing content again Pat,,, loved the history on Kukrit.... you have a history lesson for the public soon,,, is there still openings?
Love the appreciation of the BTS guiderails. I remember being on the train one day and reminded of the intro feedback of Hendrix’s guitar with almost that exact same sound :) guess the tracks needed a little oil. Used to live near Suan Phlu - brilliant stuff Pat!
Sathorn Road brought back memories for me. I got married to my Thai wife in the old Australian Embassy in 1988.
Thank you for a other great video on the history of Bangkok.
Thanks for covering the M.R.Kukrit Pramoj home-museum, which is every bit as interesting as the Jim Thompson home-museum. The only difference it's not swarming with tourists and photograph-taking all around the house is welcome. And there are no guides to hustle you around. It's as underrated as Thompson is overrated.
Sadly it has been closed for the last 2-3yrs. I think his achievements outweigh Jim Thompsons!
Wow what a great video. Well researched, well edited and thoroughly entertaining. Awesome job Pat!
Been visiting Thailand for 30 years, Sathorn is usually our base where we stay. Great video.
Fantastic video. Thank for your hard work.
Soft Cell singer Marc Almond stays at the Lebua Tower hotel every time he visits Bangkok.
Thanks again for the excellent coverage of the Sathorn road area. Back in the mid 80's, I was a student summer hire at JUSMAG Thai and was given the task of painting the interior of the building that runs along the wall on Sathorn road. The lower level had a large room with a blank wall. I asked the Navy chief I was working for if I could paint the Thai and U.S. flags on the blank wall. It took some time but looked pretty good for an amateur. I am sure it has long been painted over but that was a lot of fun and will always bring back a great memory when I go down Sathorn.
Loved going there for their BBQs. It was a bit of a step back in time even 35 years ago.
Was never a fan of the old Australian embassy building, but can't say the new one is any better. Looks like a cheap Gaudi knockoff.
Very exciting video of this Bangkok Wall Street. Great job Pat, thanks for showing us your city with all the in depth knowledge from days gone by until current day, which makes it so interesting. 👏🏻👍
They call it that, but the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is near Sukhumvit & Asok, not in Sathon.
I fell down on my knees and prayed when our guy Pat finally took a deep look into Sathorn District. I have purpose of life now!
Pat, another great vid.
Good video Pat. I could relate to mostly all of your narrative.
Older expats all remember the Thai immigration office there before moving to Chang Wattana. It was the worse mad house ever😅!
Thank you for another great video. I really enjoyed it.🙏
Liked this one Pat it was very informative as usual like all of your vlogs.
Regarding the Kings Hotel on Sathon south Road, I stayed there for a month in 1975 for the Princely sum of just £30 👍
Just a thought …great work but maybe you could slow it down to explain more of the history…. This is good stuff for people living here. Thanks
Best video’s of bangkok 😊
Another great video on our amazing city of angels. Thank you, Pat 🙏🏽
Thank you for the useful information, Mr. Alain Delon
Thank you once again Pat for another great video and history of the area. 👍🙏🙏🙏
Always looking forward to a new episode from you !!!
I always thought the Aussie embassy was down in the pub....
Hey Pat. How about a visit and some history on Nang Leong district, an original Mon settlement. Cheers! Allen
Another excellent video! Thank you for all of the effort you put into your work. Also, it was great meeting you when I was in town a few weeks ago. My walking tour was one of the highlights of my trip.
Another great video. Thanks Pat, keep them coming.
Interesting video. One error, Babylon Sauna did not close in 2019. It closed on the 20 December 2020, I know because I was there, and one of the last to leave!
Brilliant video Pat as always !!! Thanks!!!
Awesome Pat. Can't wait for part Two. All the best, Cheers
No one does this kind of videos about Bangkok dating back to decades . Appreciate all you have done to make these precious videos possible….
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Nice one again Pat.
Lived in Siri Sathorn for 8 months. Nice area.
Good video. It's good to see you back on the beat Pat
Excellent as always and nice to see you back.
I think it's incredible that less than a century ago there were villages and orchids in this area. Amazing Thailand.
Another very interesting video, thanks.
Great video
Will have to try trok silom.
Wow, had to listen to the Babylon part again! I thought you said 'price tags' not pride flags! Oops! My bad!
Pat's videos feels like a breath of fresh air and have such a calming effect so its almost as he could add the letters "ASMR" in the description text of each new release. Once again I am blown away by his meticulous research and ability to find sensible information about remarkable people, places and venues. And it make me once again miss the back alleys and lesser trodden street's of Bangkok.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks for the kind words too.
Thanks Pat. Just wrapping up a 2 week stay in Sathorn, lots of places I’ve walked by but plenty of layers of detail from you 👍🏻
Really enjoyed it thanks looking forward to part ii
Another interesting and well done video! Thank you!
Excellent. Babylon closed down in 2021 though.
Excellent and insightful video Pat. Makes me feel like heading down to Sathorn next visit and finding these areas that I know little about
Pat, nice educational video as always
One correction: it's Interlace that stack condo in Singapore, not interface 😅😅😅
Very informative, I learned a lot new facts about my neighborhood , Thanks
Loved this, thanks much. Two points: I notice you didn't mention the spooky old Chinese cemetery on Chong Nonsi (at Silom), perhaps because its not easy to get good photos of it right now(?) And, I eagerly await your rant about the Robot Building...I'm still upset about that tragedy.
I mention both in Part 2 which is the second part of Sathon Road from Chong Nonsi to the river
Very Interesting Video, also with the old pictures and your Clear Information, also about the History of this part of Bangkok. 🙏
I was living at the Sathorn District for over a year from 2022-2023, your video has just reminded me all these places especially the Suan Phlu area cause I often took the bus #62 and the BRT at Chong Nonsi to get home.
Thanks for the great video again ! 👍
Excellent info. packed doc. video! Thanx, again!
Amazing video! Great work, thank you so much for sharing, been driving and walking down Sathorn Rd many times, but did not know about so many interesting, historical fact's. 😊👍🏻
Thrilled.
You have outdone yourself once again!
Highly educational and an exciting piece of art in perfect production.
Congratulations and many thanks again!
PS: So the signature tune for Germany has been changed from the Valkyrie ride to the pow'r station style.
😉
I faintly remember M.R. Pramoj becoming a prime minister. His face was everywhere then. Funny I don't remerber anything about his brother who both preceded and succeeded him.
I remember reading some of Kukrit Pramoj's plays to improve my Thai language reading skills. Who-says-what in play texts is very clear. This isn't so clear, for learners of Thai script, especially in novels as there are fewer "breaks" in the text which seems to be strung along endlessly!
Sorry late reaction was a little busy with things. Great video Pat about Sathorn district a lot of history there I been their only a few time but never explore it good, but I will do it for sure next time. I been on the rooftop of Mahanakhon amazing view but that time I only had my mobile next I will take photo's with my Fuji X-H1 cam. Luckly I'm not afraid of walking on the class floor it really weird to look down and see every thing so small. I did also walk a little bit at the Sathon canal at Chong Nonsi Canal Park. Thx again Pat!
Love the video Pat! We always love the historical story ❤ we were in the chong Nonsi area 2 years ago. We stayed at the Standard which is in the Mahanakhon building…..Thanks for sharing this awesome video 😊 Love all of your videos 😊
At 9:30, No matter wher you go in Thailand, you’re almost Guaranteed to see as Soi Dog out the front of a Seven-Eleven. I’ve even seen them laying out the front of one in Northern rural Thailand, just outside Kampaeng Phet.
Trok Silom is very nice yes. But please not tell everybody Pat🤫.
I found this video absolutely fascinating, I appreciate the time and research that goes into these videos. Shame about the Australian Embassy, it looked like a remarkable example of modernist architecture designed for a hot and humid climate.
You Did better than me on the King power skywalk Pat. I couldn't put one step on it even after 2 beers. 😂
Fantastic, Pat. Met you a while back on Yen Akat Road. Great video.
Stayed at the Embassy Hotel in 2018. A good budget hotel.
Best of the best!
Great vlog, thanks Pat. Really interesting!
Great video - upvoted
Nicely done! I live in Sathorn and I'm learning new things about my area!
You did it again... thanks for another interesting video! 👍
Pat, it's getting impossible to find enough superlatives to compliment you on these great and fascinating videos, and you must really spend a lot of time researching and preparing. Plus your relaxed style is probably the best amongst those who produce Bangkok videos. Looking forward to part 2.
The Germans know
Fascinating account of the area and prominent figures. I personally have to pause it frequently to read to take in everything. Could you slow down the labeled stills and sub titles a bit please ?
Cheers
Others complain they are too long....but l will make them longer on screen.
Absolutely fantastic video.
Is it correct to say the Silom Road is "old wall street" whereas Sathon Road is "new wall street"?
Yeah l think so, and before Silom it was Charoen Krung Road
The cats are gonna be pretty dark when they find out you put a dog shot in here Pat. What were you thinking? I hope you are kicking ass in Bangkok. Another glorious presentation. You should get indoors more.
The cats were late paying their brown envelopes
@@BangkokPat Ha! Canine paid top dollar and got himself a cameo. Nice.
Is the trok silom the gaff with the men's urinals on the stairs?
I would like to go to Trok Silom the next time I'm there in vibrant Bangkok.
This is near where I stayed when I was in BKK Pat. (Bang Rak). I really enjoyed this video! Thanks mate 👍👍
Good timing on this one, I am arriving for a 3 month visit next week and my condo is in Sathorn, first time staying in this area.
Well done Mr. Pat. ❤ So much about Sathorn I didn't know.
Every trip, I spent at least one evening at the top of The Banyan Tree, and sipped drinks while overlooking the city.
Gather around kids! There's a new Bangkok Pat video out!
Nice one - I just did a big walk through Sathorn, Bang Rak and Chinatown this morning ... then back to Thonburi ... Also hit the wonderful old Hua Lomphong station that you've covered before ... Many memories hitting that station from Bangkok to Laos way back when ... Cheers, Steve @law_nomad
Great as always. But I would have edit it with the Mozart music continuing through the gay pool scene. :)
I almost did but l would have to show the pool and bare chested scenes longer for proper effect....
Nice
Great video PAT, your research into these videos is commendable.
I've done the skywalk at Mahanakhon tower, I thought I'd be terrified, but I wasn't at all phased.
I really appreciate your informative and educational videos, much more interesting than the formulaic standard videos produced by other Thailand youtubers, cost of living, 10 thing I love and hate about xyz.
Just an idea for you, The Pattaya Orphanage is celebrating its 50th anniversary in September, you might want to make a video about this.
Thanks Robert for the kind words. I am due in Pattaya for a couple of days soon to film some stuff, will keep that mind, plenty of time!

Anotyer entertaining and really informative presentation, many thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight Pat.
Great video Pat! Never spent any time here. It's now on the list to do.
Thanks Pat, another fascinating video. Watching your sped up footage of Bangkok traffic is slightly nerve wracking though.
Don't cross the road when l speed up the clips!!
We went to Chong Nonsi as i recall, good for filming although it was dark by the time we got there.... That bar alongside the track sounds good to me, a cool beer while i film the trains!...... I have walked across the top of the Sathon roads, the night i saw Natty at the Ekkolo Theatre nearby, when heading for the Skytrain back to the Asia Hotel.......
Another one batted outta da park Pat. Waiting for part deux!
As a Suan Phlu boy it 'almost' brought a tear to my eye. First class story. Now everyone needs to move along....we don't want Thonglor HiSo's or Soi 11 butch@rs messing with our little piece of paradise.
I tried to play it down and give it as little promotion as possible....
@@BangkokPat I don't think you are helping! ....mongrel.
Always love to watch your videos on the history of provinces, streets, areas of Bangkok, also your story-telling videos. Always waiting for your next video. Just noticed you mixed up the pictures of The Guardian Arts Center Beijing and The Interface Singapore (23:55 - 24:04)
Thanks Josh! Annoyed l mixed those up actually, took me ages to find those pics!
