Yes, this is the 8 hours one.
No, this is not a human run. In fact, the video itself is longer than the time I spent making it.
What I did was set up BizHawk to automatically hold right and press the jump button at a rate I decided. One jump every 34 frames seems to do the trick.
...for no longer than an hour.
I monitored Sonic's height throughout the level, and, when it got too high, I decreased the jump rate to one every 35 frames. This "quickly" (as in, somewhere in the 10-20 minutes span) brought Sonic down, which meant I had to switch the jump rate back to 34 frames. Rinse and repeat, until 8 hours of video were produced.
I do not think this is a humanly feasible run: it would take at least 6 hours of constant attention to reach the 20000 mile span. You also need to press the jump button way too many times.
The final video came out at just under 10GB: the wonders of compression, right?
