@@DanielSong39 It's not really tunnel vision though, it's an information game. Because he knows he's drawn the majority of knights inside the deck, the odds of drawing more of them is quite low. Each progressive knight pulled was less and less likely, and therefore more unlucky.
For me the critical turn was at 11:38 when you're sitting on 3 knights with no challenger for army. At that point I think you need to be putting the city on the 8 sheep, which accelerates your dev game anyway but also gives you a much better chance of securing the 3:1 port earlier in the game. But after pulling the 4th knight and then stealing enough to get a city, at that point the city is an absolute must!! You said you really wanted another ore for a city so I don't think you realised you could have ported the sheep for a city. Obviously very unlucky getting 10 knights but I think with the city you would've pulled as many devs by the end of the game
100% the difference between 1st and 4th right there. Getting 3 sheep every time the 8 rolls is too good. I also don't see it getting gang blocked. Even if it does, you have 3 knights already for defense. IMO, it's better to get the guaranteed points AND the better production at that point of the game than hoping for good D cards.
You 100% should’ve ported the sheep for a city @12:21. Not sure why you’re buying devs there when you have 3 knights in hand. You needed production there to port for more settles.
ya 4 sheep, 2 wheat and 1 ore was the perfect city. Citying the 8 sheep makes you a dev machine because it allows you a ton of flexibility everytime an 8 rolls
Hindsight 20/20. He could've gotten lucky and get 2-4 vps and a mono. Also being the first one with 2 cities makes you more of a target. He played this perfectly, just got extremely unlucky with drawing nothing but knights
@@suzyocean7392 this is not hindsight, the chance of pulling a VP just increased from 5/25 to 5/22, that's not enough, Dylan was so far ahead he can just win the game safely without taking risks, he wasted his knights, because so many actionable devs are super unnecessary. Popping so mich with 3 active devs in hand will just flood your Dev cards with bs
@@suzyocean7392Why would you try to get lucky with devs when you basically have the win guaranteed? And do you think he wouldn't be targeted with a city, a strong port and 5 down devs?
After seeing the final setup I'm wondering what DylLighted was smoking I was visualizing: - 8 Sheep port - 6/12 ore - 8/3 - Cities on 8/4/10, 6/3/11 - Army/Road - Combination of VP('s), road/settle, or city for the last 1-3 points Instead I see 4 roads to nowhere and 10 knights It looks like one of my games LOL
You played pretty bad tbh. You had 3 knights and still bought more devs. What were u expecting? With the sheep port just city up, this would've been an easy win.
Hindsight makes it tough and definitely unlucky devs. I can see why u popped a lot early, but I think near the end isn’t dropping settles/cities just a more consistent path to get the last couple points?
Dylan's intention was to buy the VPs so that his opponents can't buy them. Building a settlement is a guaranteed point, but buying a VP card is a point that you both get and deny from your opponents at the same time.
@12:20 you say u wish u could have gotten the city but instead u bought a devv card, but if u traded ur 4 sheep for 2 ore with ur port u would have had enough for the city
@11:46 Jesus Dylan! Your obsession with devs gets worse and worse. You have 3 knights for protection in hand. Nobody contests army. Why gambling instead of just winning the game with like 90% probability at that point?
Perfectly? He massively overvalues devs. Once he had army in hand it was definitely the move to grab a city. Boost production to be able to buy more devs later so you don't get stuck from a couple turns of your numbers not rolling with a hot dev card deck to draw from like he did. Gotta hedge in case you don't get lucky draws.
It’s becoming painful to watch how he focuses so much on the dev cards instead of securing easy points like settles and cities. I know Dylan is very good at this game and he’s very high up in the ranks but this is just out of control 😂 I was yelling at the screen so many times. I know he got unlucky with the knights too but man…
So it is expected to happen once every 330 games? Dylan has probably uploaded more games that that, if we include his streams on Twitch. Buying 10 knights is about as predictable to happen as seeing the correct time on a broken analog clock. Just stare at the clock continuously for a day or so, and eventually you'll see it happening.
That math is wrong. Everytime you draw a dev it also removes a card from the deck So assuming noone else pulls devs it's more like 14/25*13/24*12/23...*1/12 If im calculating this right it's about 2.2*10^-9 or 2.2*10^-7% chance
@@zwxyer haha you are correct. I feel like a microbe. I calculated it and it’s 1 in about 2000. You went all the way down to drawing all 14 knights in a row in your calculation, but it’s just 10

@@JohnSmithEx where did I say to post 'only' wins? @@jondonjr I misunderstood your previous comment, sorry about this. TBH I am also puzzled by Dylan's high ranking. Other players might not be as focused, they might do other things in parallel while playing, they might not play as frequently etc.
Dylan you need to slow down your thinking. You have a thousand thoughts per second, thinking about whether previous moves were mistakes, and run out of time on important decisions. I am a fan of your content though
I don't think you just keep pulling especially when with the sheep port, you can settle, city and build the rest of your points easily without losing army since no one else is coming after it. But I also think you just got unlucky...

This thing will be useless if it can't win games by itself. And if it does, everyone will be cheating by using the thing. Which would make the game interesting for all the wrong reasons. The good news is that it's not gonna happen. Making a Catan engine that can beat seasoned human players is just too difficult.
I don't think I've ever seen such a ridiculous amounts of knights in one hand, super unlucky lmao
10 knights. Insane
He got very unlucky but he also got Development Card tunnel vision
