- Trashy foaled very unexpectedly in her paddock on May 6th, 2024. She was due to get her Foal Alert in the next day and hadn’t shown any of her usual signs of being close to foaling. Watch the nerve wracking birth and the wild events that took place after the fact (including her colt going in a wild adventure).

That boy has been alive for less than 2 hours and he's strolling down the driveway. Unbelievable!!😊
He was making sure he got his steps in that day 🫣
Seemed like he got really good at walking in an extra short time due to all that early travel!
@@OnceUponaTimeline That's how they're made. Can't be laying around smelling like dinner! He's a spirited little one! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@TruthArrows It did seem to me he was more mobile in 30 minutes than the ones that are carefully curated in their stalls for their births. This one had no choice but to really hoof it quite a bit more right away!
@@OnceUponaTimeline he did not what the chickens 🐔 pecking him, he had to walk faster than they were. Those were some fast chickens.
Thank you for sharing this. I watched it in its entirety. Fascinating to see the "group" dynamics in the paddock.
Trashy had to have been exhausted -- no midwife, no warm mash, no lying down and resting. I can't hardly believe that she didn't pass the placenta with all the running around she did. I am so glad that momma and colt are in your wonderful care. 🥰
She was so relieved when we got her in the stall instant relaxation for the poor girl. What a rough morning!
Omg this was stressful to watch poor Trashy being so stressed. Thankfully all turned out ok x
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact.
@@meadowbrookstablesWatching that footage I would be having all kinds of feelings like 😮 what the....! OMG!
Mamma and baby both went through a lot for quite a while!
Glad they're ok ✌🏽
Poor momma. Glad he's ok. What a shock to see him there so ahead of schedule. And what a shock to see him escape the paddock and poor momma loosing her mind. I'm actually shocked she didn't try to kick down the fence or go over it. Holy buckets!
Uh oh... I'm just watching for the first time.. we still on the ground. Wondering what happens now 😱
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
I love Trashy's head movements. It's like she's saying, "Get back here, boy!!!" 🧐
Lots of head tossing but could she CALL to her son. NO! I would have woken up had I heard her neighing 🤦🏼♀️
@@meadowbrookstables Some people/horses just HAVE to do things the hard way LOL!
It was interesting to watch the herd dynamics and how the young colt knew to stay back and the other mare was not completely convinced that was Trashy’s foal and they had a moment - and then the concerning part was when the foal wiggled out of the paddock - poor Trashy was about to lose her mind - thankfully all was well
Yes poor mumma 🥺
How suspenseful! Kept me on the edge of my seat! Thank goodness they are both okay.
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
"Gambit's down the shelter, not realizing what's happening." Isn't that just like a guy 😅
He pretty much slept through the whole thing haha 😆
Poor Poor Trashy nearly went berserk, thanks to God her foal found his way back to her, this was extremely stressful to all.
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
Lol, she is keeping an even closer eye on him since he has gotten back into the paddock. Its so precious how they are kissing on one another 😊
Can’t loose him a second time. Likely worried we’d call child services.
Amazing! I can only imagine watching you watch the video the first time when he got outside the paddock! So very happy mom and baby are doing great.
They already knew that the baby turned out fine by the time they watched it so that probably made it easier LOL!
I was so sick to my stomach watching it - even knowing the outcome was okay for all involved. When we found him we had NO idea he went on quite an adventure!
@@meadowbrookstables One does not like to realize how close to disaster it was I am sure!
Just wow! Everything turned out perfectly thanks to team MBS! Proof Mother Nature has her own time line❤
Thank goodness 😅
Kayla: This was by far, the best, most enjoyable MBS video I have watched!! i grew up on a farm & everything was done au naturel back in my day. Nature took its course for Trashy. … really made my day!! Thank you so much for sharing. Oh and maybe don’t worry so so much Kayla. Granted, I realize domesticated fowl are a far cry from horses… but give yourself more credit: You take such excellent care of these animals that of course things will go smoothly-most of the time!!! Thank you so so much, thus.really warmed my heart & im going to rewatch later today!!!
We were all very lucky that she didn’t need assistance (as we did have to help pull several foals this year that were stuck). And that the other horses didn’t step in and hurt the foal. I don’t like putting my trust in nature 😅 If this had of been one of the other mares we might have come out to a dead foal sadly 🥺
@@meadowbrookstables Of course; You are right. Indeed, I watched those other videos!! Keep doing what you’re doing Kayla- MBS provide really A-1 care there!! i oh wait, i did have 1 Q, was there a foaling alert monitor on Trashy?
@@paulabuck5976she was due to get it the very next day 🤣
Oh my goodness. Poor Trashy. Well, all is well that ends well. She and the foal did well. ❤
I was on the edge of my seat and I even knew how it ended 😅
Oh my gosh! Watching that beautiful face emerge from the sack made my heart double in size! ❤
🥰🥰
I think Traveller would be a great name for this little one. LOL so cute!
We went with Wilder after his Wild adventure.
He is such a sweet little guy, he didnt run off!❤😂🎉
He went on quite the adventure
Oh my goodness, THAT was quite the experience for Trashy and her baby! I'm SO glad everything turned out OK! 💞
ME TOO 🫣
I was amazed❣️Just kept waiting for people to show up! But, Mom was a bear and stood valiantly in protecting her baby 👍👏💋🦋
Unfortunately we were sound asleep. The mare was due to get her Foal Alert in the next day. And had shown no signs of being close to foaling. She has had 6 foals in the past and always dripped milk and was very restless. This mare showed no signs at night check.
@@meadowbrookstables I did not mean my comment to be derogatory in any way! I was simply stating how my emotions were playing out as I was watching the events unfold. It was amazing to watch. I was very touched by the Mom’s instincts and the journey she/foal went on with the surprise birth. I watch your channel all the time and the birthing videos you so diligently provide. I know and trust the farm/staff in all you do. Please accept my apologies if I offended any of you❣️
Trashy's foal must have felt like Bambi on ice, trying to stand up in that slippery mud!! LOL 🤣 Poor baby!! But strong when he finally did manage to get up!! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
Rough start for sure!
ANXIETY just watching that. That little guy should have been called Houdini. Never in a million years would I have imagined a baby going through the man walk. What an ordeal. I'm shook.
Right?! New fear unlocked 🔓
He escapes, tries out his new legs, then just rolls back in to his mama. He's like Houdini.
Right?!
I enjoyed the chickens roaming around with the horses
What you say is going to come back at you 😮,
They love their free roaming life.
💕Mother Nature & Instincts💕
Baby has moms bald face, and thigh high stockings on all four legs, super cute!
He is sooo flashy!
Poor mama. She is saying “ git your butt back over here”. lol
😅
Wow! That was remarkable to see! Such a determined little colt and protective mama 🩷
Such a good mumma - aside from giving him the boot.
She is a gorgeous mare!
Thanks 😊
Trashy did so good. This was amazing to watch!
Until she shoved him out of the paddock and didn’t call for help lol 😂
Wow! Obviously he should be named Houdini! Glad it all ended happily.
We went with Wilder due to his Wild adventure.
omg the foal looks like mom. so pretty.
Copy Paste!
The mom is so beautiful. That face wow. Would love to see her up close
She is a looker!
I think this should be a lesson. Fix that opening in the fence where he got out. Lucky the mare didn’t try jumping the fence. So lucky.
We are very proactive with our mares we have cameras set up and bring them in the stalls when close. Unfortunately this mare showed no signs before foaling and snuck this one out on us. It has only happened on us one other time when a mare went 18 days before her expected due date - we’ve foaled out 64 foals. Luckily everyone was okay.
This paddock is meant for adult horses, no one expected Trashy to go into labour at 5:30am, she showed no signs whatsoever she was close or they would've taken her inside
Thank God Trashy and Wilder are doing well ❤I really enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing it MBS🎉🎉🎉what adventure
for Wilder
My heart was in my throat the whole time watching it after the fact. At least I knew the ending was good but boy was I stressed 😫
@@meadowbrookstables I can imagine! I'm pretty new to the channel, and a month late seeing this. Mama was slinging her head at her foal.... saying Get, GET! GET back in here!!! 😆 Bless her heart! Beautiful mare, and colt! I'm so glad she got into a stall, and was able to chill out and rest...
☺️ 🙋🏻💕
Ohh my goodness! Mama actually had a foal all on her own! Good for her!
Well it started good. But then it quickly went bad.
He is such an independent guy. I would have expected him to stay closer to mom😮
He tried until his mum shoved him out the man gate. Poor dude.
@@meadowbrookstables I agree he wouldn’t have gone on his stroll if mom hadn’t been so pushy! He didn’t go far , I kept an eye out for his little head popping up around the area . He really is an Angel 😇. You did a great job getting mom and escape to a nice place to relax 😎. He was over his adventures. 👍
What a horrid name for a lovely mare! Pleased the foal was ok.
It’s a throw back to her lineage and Registered name (First Class Trash).
He’s doing it all by himself ❤❤
Rough start for the little dude.
Thanks!
Thank you!
I never missed any of the births till this one because she had this outside so thank you very much for putting up this video even though it was hectically traumatizing for everybody,The sound with you talking keep stopping, she had a cowboy farm delivery -not a spa deal with 5 star quality like the rest, that in itself was something, then mister curious George gets into a full-fledged action packed movie not a regular birth video, a nail biter😮, this has been some birthing for Trashy and the baby, she doesn't even get to go through normal process although she started out with that carries the placenta around with her while frantically trying to get her kid back in there with her, Gambit an Emmy were on toes at what's going on, I thought she's going to have chiropractic problems in the neck as much as she was stressing and panicking,-I can for sure bet you that curious George doesn't get so curious again Emmy is probably thinking good God please let me have that baby inside when it's ready I do not want to go through this, I feel for every freaking one of them out there they all did a one heck of a job⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was so stressful to watch and I even knew the outcome. I had NO idea he went on quite an adventure when I found them. It wasn’t until we looked back at the cameras afterwards. 🥺
Oh, my nerves! So glad baby and mama are okay.
We were too
Welp, this is one birth you'll never forget! 😂You need to give him a name related to his little escape there. But poor Trashy! She was so stressed! 😭 But the way she was pacing through Gambit and Emmy, it's like she was saying: "Y'ALL IVE LOST MY BABEH! HELP!!!" 😂
We named him Wilder after his Wild Adventure!!
@@meadowbrookstables Oh that's perfect! I never would've thought of that one! ^^
Wow amazing but nerve wrecking.
So nerve wracking!
I don’t think I will ever forget the night I saw that foal borned outside ! I thought I was seeing things . When he got up I was shocked. I thought someone would coming to check on them. Instead I watched the mom push the baby out of the paddock. ! He wondered around for awhile then looked for ways back in the pen . Then came the next shock I loss sight of him , and all of a sudden he came sliding through the electric fence. He was back home. Momma didn’t tried to push him out again . Someone came and saved him😂😂😂! I will always remember that night! If I could have found a ☎️ number I would have called !
Unfortunately we didn’t have this camera streaming live at the time or we could have been notified what was going on. Darn Trashy snuck him out on us!
This was unfortunately the “Perfect Storm!” No fault of anyone but the outcome was positive because Trashy is a seasoned mare. If you watch closely when her labor started she was very anxious prior to foaling. Was her anxiety because she was transitioning from stage one to stage two?? Not sure but fear or stress can also bring on a quick, early labor. She wasn’t calling out to her foal when he was on the other side of the fence because she didn’t want to bring attention to him by inviting predators since she had no ability to protect him.
This mare has had several foals and has never thrown a curve ball like this. She always waxes, and drips before foaling and gets very restless the day before. Not with this guy. We were out fencing all day before she foaled and had eyes on her and she was just standing and resting. It was a total shock to come out to a baby in the morning!
I’ve never seen that happen before ,Trashy was swinging her head back and forth obviously under major stress .Where was the foal ? Eventually he managed to actually get back in .my goodness !
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
Interesting to see the wild herd instict kick in here. One mare standing guard over the other mare who is incapacitated from foaling. In the wild, you see this behaviour quite often. Having studied the wild horses in Alberta, the one mare who has foaled, another mare will guard her until the placenta passes and the foal is steadier on its feet, ready to run with its mother in the herd. Very interesting to see that here, in the domestic setting. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
Can the stallions be dangerous to the newborn colts in the wild?
@HaleyTylertoo Not if they are their own colts. If it's a new stallion that has taken over the herd, he will kill all foals to bring the mares in heat so they can have his colts and fillies. That's in a wild herd situation, however. I hope this answered your question satisfactorily. Best Regards, from a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@@jenniferlehman326 Thank you for that information Jennifer, nature can be cruel.
@@HaleyTylertoo It can be. But it has always been survival of the fittest. A lion does the same thing as a wild stallion does, and people accept that a lot easier than when it's in the horse world. Something to consider, isn't it?
I’m so glad Emmy was so sweet.
Lol... SUPRISE!!
😋
I've had one of those "suprise babies".
Lol... I can still remember me, just standing in chock, wondering if my eyes decived me; staring at the baby.... What the...!??
😅😂❤
Love how the other mare just stood protective like...
Congrats !
Ps: Call him "BraveHeart"
It’s definitely quite the wake up call haha
Trashy decided to try and be a wild horse and do this whole birth thing on her own but thank goodness it all turned out ok and no complications
Right?!
That colt never really tried to get up on its front legs he scooted all around until his first attempt and he stood up on his first attempt, very impressive.
He was likely in shock going from nice comfy uterus to hard wet ground in the rain. Poor dude.
He really wants back in , but he’s scared!
Yeah poor guy :(
She is so stress I can’t believe she hasn’t knock that fence down . I have horse 🐎 take out those fences when they have been spooked by something!
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
I think I see his head moving around, sweet little guy
🥰
He was a very determined little boy! .he's like uh can somebody help me out here.
Right?!
Thank goodness prior to watching the video I knew the outcome! No wonder your stress levels were through the roof. I found it stressful just watch poor mum and baby going through it. How very unlucky the way the foal got out of the paddock but so happy that all turned out well. ❤
Right I had NO idea he had gone on such an elaborate adventure until we watched the cameras after the fact. So grateful that everything turned out okay for mum and babe.
There he is welcome back !
😅
She is a very attentive mother to her baby, cleaning him, protecting him.
She is.
She must have been making plenty of noise!
None. We checked all the cameras audio too. The dogs didn’t wake up. We didn’t wake up (I always wake up when I hear horses neighing, running or thumping in the night).
Thank God!
😅
This just wore me out🤦♀️! I’m thankful that everything turned out okay 👍
Me too
She is very attentive now that he is up and investigating!🎉❤😊
🥰
Why wasn't anyone out there at this time? So close to foaling???? I don't understand why she wasnt checked on first thing? To make matters worse, IT'S RAINING! AUGHHHH!!!
Because this mare was over two weeks before her due date - had showed no signs of foaling the night before. And knowing this mares history she had never gone early like this (she is more likely to go late) and she always drips milk before foaling - this mare did none of that. She was due to get her foal alert in the next day and start being brought into the stall at night.
@meadowbrookstables Ok! Thk you for explaining! Thank God Himself, no harm happened! Forgive the freak out! Watching, was just off the chart scary!!!❤️🐎❤️
Every pregnancy is different and you shouldn’t base your judgement on the laws of averages:(. The lesson here should be when a mare is two weeks out from foaling, she should be inside every night/ or monitored closely during the day.
She is a very pretty mare . I think , from what I can see he is going to be a handsome one!
🥰
Awe welcome home buddy! Mommy missed you!
Finally! So nerve wracking.
Emmys such a beautiful horse
She is isn’t she?
She really is a beautiful horse, she has such nice markings😊
I think so too!
Im surprised she didnt kick through that part of the fence the babe got out of to go get him

That was a wild ride with a wonderful ending! Someone make a strong pot of coffee and pour a little Baileys in mine please. Lol Loved the video! Ty for sharing it with us.
Great idea!!
At least she wasn’t alone!
Luckily the others didn’t attack or try to steal the foal because that can happen.
@@meadowbrookstables yep I haven’t seen it with home bred hoses but definitely with wild ones . The stallion want to kill the foals and the attack the mothers.
The first time I saw that I wanted to grab my cane and my wife ( I don’t drive due to crappy COVID ) and head to Candace family place , wherever that is and help them save those poor babies. Yeah, yeah I know I’m a crazy old lady. But I hate to see animals mistreated!you guys do great work to take care of all your animals.
Hey Runaway, get back in the paddock!
Right?!
That’s great. She had it without any intervention from you all. I’ve never in my life seen so many people in a stall as a mare is trying to give birth.
Except she almost killed him by pushing him out of the paddock where he could have easily broken a leg, or his neck or injured himself as the outside of the paddock is not “baby proofed” he could have fallen into the manure bunker. So much COULD have gone wrong because we weren’t there. The same reason why we want to be around for goslings because of what COULD go wrong. If you don’t like our videos don’t watch them - we are trained veterinary professionals and we do what is best for the horse’s health and wellbeing.
It was not great, that foal is lucky to be alive, Trashy hadn't passed her placenta herself, the foal hadn't nursed til way later than it could've due to getting lost, both could've died if it wasn't for mbs and the team
Melindaapril3880 Completely agree with you. Rediculous. It's a horse not a child. There's fewer people in a birthing room at a hospital for an actual baby lol. And so much talking and noise for the sake of a video. Poor horse
@@nancyridings835 Non of the previous videos made show any sign of negative "intervention". What you saw was necessary aiding of mares and foals to ensure a safe birth and a healthy mare and foal. People in the stalls are oftentimes the mares or foals owners and don't cause any distress.
@@dancingpuffin8936 i disagree. "Intervention" in an emergency is necessary. Every mare foaling isn't an emergency. Its interfering with the mare bonding with her foal. And it wasn't wise having a pregnant mare overnight in a paddock that isn't prepared for a birth less than two weeks before it's due
Awe...together again at last!!😊

I knew when I saw the man gate that the foal was going to escape and when he did-oh my anxiety! Since he was back in when you got there, When did you realize he was out of the paddock for so long? Also your horses are beautiful!
We went back to watch the video reply to get timelines (when he was born, if he nursed, if he passed his meconium etc) and found that he went on quite the adventure!
It’s like the equestrian version of Ferris Buehlers day off….poor Trashy girl

Momma is determined to go after him!
Would have been the one time I wouldn’t mind one going through the fence.
@@meadowbrookstables I really seen a horse go through one of those green fences ,plus electric wire. It was crazy , happened on Pony tails refuge. The horse got spooked andoff he went tearing down everything in front of him ! The entire staff ran towards the mess he left behind him. The Vet just happened to be there . The weird thing about it was the horse ran right across the front yard right into the front door and stopped right where he just was 30 min before for his 1st exam! I guess he liked the vet !
He was looking for a bottle of milk that mom wouldn’t feed him!
He hungryyy
This was amazing to watch, how fast she got up when Emmy came over, how she wouldn't let Emmy too close but sad to see how panicked she was when the colt was outside the gate and she couldn't get to him. Gambit knew enough to stay away. 😄I'm glad everything turned out well in the end. Did you see if the colt was able to get colostrom in the timelines you set? I appreciate all the wonderful care you give to all your animals
Once we had them in the stall and he was nursing we went back and watched the cams to get timelines figured out. Luckily even with his hour long adventure we got them in the barn before the 3 hour mark and all timelines were passed. We did have to give Trashy some oxytocin to help her pass the placenta but otherwise all was good. :)
Awwwwww.. poor mama! She prolly wondering why she didn't make the cut for the more posh delivery service, lolz ,❤️🩹🎠🎂✨
Poor mama is right! We were devastated when we found them - but so relieved everyone was okay.
Poor girl , she loves her baby. 😇
She sure does.
could he be a dummy foal since he is maybe premature? Not sucking, headed for fences, aimless wanderings? (See Yvonne Friesian Horses, Netherlands....) same issues, except a bit overdue.
No he wasn’t a dummy foal at all. Unfortunately mumma pushed him through the fence before he was able to nurse. He did get a good nurse as soon as we got them into the stall. Poor guy had a rough morning.
GOD was looking out for his sweet ones for sure!!
So glad he was okay!
Mom you could kick that wooden door down with in kick !
Right?!
Beautiful face just like MAMA ! 😍
Just like mama!

That came as a “shocking wake up call”
Yup. Good thing the audio was off on this cam because I said some pretty interesting things coming around the corner with their breakfast!
@@meadowbrookstables I bet you did ! Thanks for the video it was great!👍
Was anybody else horrified watching what this poor mare and her colt went through? I have SO may questions that the “voice over” didn’t answer. Such as: 1. Did her vulva monitor fail to function or did she even have one? 2. It has been stated in several videos that the mare may foal weeks ahead or after a due date, so why was she left out in a rainy paddock overnight? 3. Why was the “people gate” left open? (Will have nightmares replaying what that little colt went through getting zapped repeatedly, in his first hour of life, no less! Welcome to the world little one, ya right!). 4. Born in the dirt, no Betadine on his open umbilicus, catching a chill from the rain, etc, etc! Horrifying! And witnessing what poor Trashy went through not even able to relax enough to pass her placenta properly!? “Somebody” really dropped the ball here!
The mare was due to get her full alert in the very next day we try not to put them in until two weeks before their due date because they can cause irritation as they urinate and defaecate all over them so she didn’t have hers in yet we do know that several weeks before their due date, but knowing this mayors history, she has never gone early in the past and she has had six she always waxes up with white wax and drips milk, which she did not do. She was completely normal at night check and normally during her stage one labour or as she’s leading up to labour she’s very upset. She’s pacing around. She’s tossing her head. She’s very obviously in labor, but this may showed no signs of that. The gate is always open because it’s an emergency entrance and exit so it’s for safety for the handler so if you ever need to get in and out of the paddock because Horses is running around bucking and might catch you or if you need to get in an emergency to treat him or Horse that might be in distress so you know they have an injury, and save you from fussing around with the actual gate and for no Betadine because he was born in the dirt but we did it to him as soon as he came in he checked out healthy and perfectly fine. It’s just a good example of why we don’t want to fall outside because of all the things that could happen so it was definitely not planned. We do monitor our mayors very closely in 17 years. We’ve only had two foals born outside like this and both of them were early and unexpected without the mayor showing any signs to just let you know that it can happen so we will be taking extra precautions in the future full alerts will be going in earlier than the two week times frame that we normally use we go closer to three weeks to ensure that we will be notified if they start foaling.
Note to self: make sure there are no foal-sized gaps in my pens!
Ugh righttttt
