    3:37 This was very dangerous, as Turkey could have easily moved Bulgaria to Serbia and blocked Italy from going to Serbia. That would have left you with zero builds. I actually like the spring moves, but I would have followed it up in the autumn with Albania to Greece with support from Serbia, and Trieste HOLD. That way, you are guaranteed one build no matter what Turkey does. Later on in the game, you can always swap Trieste back for another center. Plus, your fleet will be in Greece, where it is much more useful than in Albania. Also, at the start of the game I would have said to Italy that yes, you would allow him to pick up a center in the east, if he would move his fleet to Ionian *and then straight continue to the Aegean Sea*. That cripples Turkey. Because Italy has taken a center from you, he can still build a fleet and take Tunis in 1902.
    4:40 I can understand Russia's line of thought. If you had not stabbed him, that would have been good for both you and Russia. The AIR triple is strong and can afford to attack the west in 1902, and this is especially helpful if France and Germany are fighting England, because you would receive English help. A 3-way AIR draw would be very likely to come out of it. If you stab Russia, though, then you trigger a Juggernaut from forming and it will be way more difficult for you to keep the west in balance. Potentially, France and Germany would move onto you and Italy once England was sufficiently weakened. Most players would go for the safe approach and not stab Russia, so probably Russia anticipated that. The stab on Russia only really worked because you managed to trick Russia twice.
    9:40 Ah, it is one of *those* victories. :p Yes, persuading someone to 2-way draw is an easy way to win. You don't see it often happening. Probably Germany thought, or at least hoped, that you would go for a traditional 3-way draw and simply tried to make himself be the biggest western power and the most logical third power to draw with.
    15:12 Wait what? Can you concede to a draw on playDiplomacy? o_0 I play on webDiplomacy and vDiplomacy and that is not possible there, and for good reason, I would say.
    21:36 Mm, I doubt that. As long as you would claim all of Italys and Turkeys home supply centers, and Bulgaria, you could afford to lose Holland, Kiel and St. Petersburg. The rest of your centers were pretty defensible.

    I've learned a lot from watching this video. I wish I could have seen this before I played Diplomacy and got beaten fairly badly.

    Hey man, nice commentary!
    A couple of friends and I decided to play the game online but found the website clunky. After finalizing orders, it takes a while(2-3 mins) to process/refresh the map. Any solutions for this?
    Thanks and stay conquering!

    • @floridamandiplomacy

      Thanks!
      I don't know that there are any solutions to lag time in the site working, especially if it's only 2-3 minutes. I suspect that's probably common to most Dip gaming sites that process their own orders. I think I've experienced the same thing on Backstabbr.
      The only thing I'd suggest is maybe try other sites, if PlayDip isn't working optimally.
      Keep your blades sharp!

      @@floridamandiplomacy thanks for the reply. we never had played it online before. so we decided to make kind-of like a blitz-run for a test. I was shocked to see it lag for only a couple of orders. But oh well, nothing to do then I guess.:(

    • @floridamandiplomacy
      @floridamandiplomacy  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I think Backstabbr and Webdiplomacy have a similar lag time, so there's not much you can do really, as far as I can tell. You might try those out, though, and experiment to see if there's one you like best.

    Your opponents were grossly incompetent. It would have been practically impossible for you to have lost this game. Spring 1910 is a good summary of the entire game: Every other player is working against each other even though you've consolidated power.

    • @floridamandiplomacy
      @floridamandiplomacy  5 років тому +12

      I like to think of it as carefully managed chaos. Most of these players are not generally incompetent, but sometimes people are ill-suited to work with each other.

    Anyone who agrees to a game-long alliance is a simp that deserves to be thrown under the bus without sympathy. Also, it's arguably against the spirit of the game.
