- The lost coast is a beautiful place that most people will never see! When they were building the Pacific coast highway they deemed Kings Mountain range impenetrable so thy went around it. Mattole road is 67 miles long and unmanaged for the most part but its worth the bumpy ride! What an amazing place!

Very beautiful ride! It’s amazing how diverse our countries landscape happens to be. That is a ride that very few people ever get to take. Thanks for the video and you all be careful!
Absolutely beautiful!
Definitely some less-than-ideal pavement in places (Gotta love it when the road suddenly turns into hard-packed dirt and rocks like that, ran into a couple of work zones on the BRP a few years ago where it turned to gravel, but at least they let you know it was coming!), but worth a few bumps for those views! Thanks for sharing it!
WOW, how beautiful is that??? Thank you for the videos of this beautiful scenery!!
"keep snappin pictures!" *click* lol
The Mattole Road is our way to get from Petrolia to Ferndale to our North and Honeydew to our East. Petrolia is where oil was first discovered in California. Watch this great video before you drive your RV's on our roads. Remember to use your gears going down hill, not your brakes. Our valley is an active earthquake area known as a Triple Junction. Our road reflects just how difficult it is for our county road crew to keep up with the active earthquake slips. Thank you for the great video.
I’m going there on motorcycle mid September from home near Trinity.. any advise?
@@Dogatemyhomework927, I tell everyone to use your gears, not your brakes. Coming in from the South off of 101 it runs 7 miles straight, 7 miles up, then 7 miles down to get to Honeydew. Coming in from the North (through Ferndale) it's 30 miles of the most beautiful countryside you have ever seen. Including 6 miles along the Pacific Ocean, one end of which is the [un-official] furthest point west on the contiguous United States while the other end of the 6 miles is a triple junction earthquake fault. I would absolutely suggest using your gears not your brakes. And watch out for logging trucks during the summer and fall months between Ferndale and Petrolia (in 2022). Oh, be certain to get your gas before you get on the Mattole Road (aka The Wild Cat).
@@cindylyman76 that is fantastic advise!!
Nothing worse than the scent of burning brakes!!
Thank you!!🌻
You'd like our isle of Tasmania, if views like that get you going. T4S it looked a great ride.
I’d love it all! 😊
Have you still got the box truck? Did you ride to California?
We rented a truck, took the bikes to Eugene Oregon, unloaded there. We rode down the PCH to the boarder then all the way cross country home. 😊 4800, miles just on the bikes. We still have the truck but something is wrong with it right now.
Do you think the raod/potholes are bad enough where a slightly lowered car 3-4" of ground clearance would have any problems with this drive?
No you’ll be alright, but still watch out in case any have appeared after the rains we got. Overall it’s a flat ride with no dips
What kind of coms were you using?
Sounded like sena.
