This week I tackle two of the rust holes in the door sills of our 60 Series Landcruiser. I make up new panels, cut the old rusty pieces out and weld in the good stuff.

great video! super informative and humble. lots of ego in car maintenance and 4wd’s haha. just bought a hj60 and got super lucky with not much rust, just some exterior rust i need to fix, i don’t think i’ll need a welder as it’s not that bad.
the milk is a vibe
Good job Xav and Jess.
awesome, lots of rust and holes on my 82. im inspired
Lovely safety precautions u are taking :)
Great job mate. Keep at it
Hey man, good to see you having a go.
My suggestion (as a non-professional but I am currently working on my rusty cruiser) is to cut more away than you think. That black dimpled rust is pretty much stuffed; you will just blow holes and cause issues. Also go to bunnings and get some copper joints, smash them flat, and put behind your welds when you can to help with blow-through. Check out fitzi channel on youtube as he does some amazing stuff with simple tools. 🤙
Is the replacement sheet metal as strong as the original stuff?
Just finished mine, after 3 months of work I pretty much have an entire new stainless roof
Pretty tough job, Was there much rust hiding under the roof skin? Or did it all show through?
@@NextStopTouring for every 1 cm of rust on the surface there is 10cm behind, in the frame of the roof.
Should only take ya a year or two to cut out and repair all the rust?
welds look cold. need more amps. are you using gasless? get yourself 1mm wire and gas
you a UWA student? im doing mechanical engineering at Curtin
Is that just sheet metal? What thickness did you use
Yeah just sheet metal. 0.9mm galvanised
Galvanized? Is he going to weld this? Oh God No!!!
Just by the way that milk thing is a complete myth, probably invest in a half mask if you are concerned about heavy metals :)
come on do a decent patch the rust goes a lot further than that
It's all rust
