I’m in the apartment industry as well. I started right after high school at 18 years old. I am now 27 years old and a Service Supervisor of a 25 story high rise building and a 5 story mid rise building. I enjoy watching your videos brother.

Wow!! I've always wondered what kind of experiences you guys have in that setup. I have the opposite set up. I have 428 townhomes all over the city, they are devided in 29 different communities. So I have to drive all day. Unfortunately right now we are really short handed it's just two of us. I do all the work orders and the other guy does all the turns.

@@MaintenanceManNarratives You should also create a video of the salaries the apartment industry pays. Here in Houston, TX there are companies that are starting out porters/groundskeepers at $17/hr.
Service techs/ assistant supervisors between -$18-22
      Service supervisors - $25-40’s

Im 28, and i started right after high school to. my father had a job ready for me. And ever since, it's been the best experience. From porter to assistant moving from property to property gaining experience.

What I hear you saying is that you were willing to put in the work. And I'm not talking about the actual work but the work it takes to learn and to grow in areas where you needed more growth. I got to fix a mainline break as a temp. The regional and manager were skeptical but they also knew it would cost a lot of money. I had been at that complex about 4 days as a temp when I had that opportunity. This mainline break was smaller than your 2". It was underneath a sidewalk. I started the job and a permanent worker came and helped. His question was...."how are we going to find where the break is at?". I told him that we'll find the area of most saturation and it should be eroded a bit...it was. And we fixed it in under 6 hours. I felt very proud of a job well done! BTW....I jump around a lot myself... I have found a community that pays decent. And it feels like home. It feels like home and I'm happy where I am at now.

That's great that you found a good place!! I always wondered is I should have started as a temp to see other companies and figure which was best. And yea, you got it. It's not so much the actual work it's the discipline to take time to learn to do things right even if it's on your own time. Great comment!! Thanks

Thanks for sharing the story of your work history.
    I agree.
Changing jobs (for example every two or three years) is better than having the same job all the time because one can learn a lot more about life by doing different things throughout his/her life.
I don't even know what dream job means.
I mean people can have favorite hobbies but honestly considering an actual work as a dream job?
Minor thing; the sound can only be heard from one speaker so probably time to get a new mic.

    • @MaintenanceManNarratives
      @MaintenanceManNarratives  Рік тому +1

I think you're right!! Because even if you make your hobby a job it takes the joy out of it because now it's a job. Being a musician may sound wonderful, until you realize you have to live with 4 other guys most of the time just to play a few hrs on the weekend....
Thanks for the mic detail, I probably did the settings wrong on the receiver.

Really inspiring sir. I’ve Been working everyday since I was 17 (now 22) and I’ve been offered a position as a maintenance assistant. I’ve worked in warehouses, commercial office buildings and now low voltage but I’ve always been the guy to ask to fix any little issues that aren’t even my job like loose doors, clogged toilet, bad light switch. I’ve really been enjoying it and this new position comes with a great raise compared to what I’m getting right now. Thank you for sharing

Awesome story . I have also watched your other videos on the good and bad in apartment maintenance. I live in Houston Texas and I’ve been plumbing for 4yrs mostly service work but I am considering switching to this industry. Only problem is I obviously don’t have an EPA certification and idk if most properties are willing to help the tech get that or even train

Awesome story! Your work ethic speaks for itself. As for me I’m doing it backwards, was a hvacr technician for 13 years, body started acting up and now moving into the maintenance supervisor role for a property. Enjoy your videos and learn a great deal from them
