Great question. My rule of thumb used to be that I would wear socks whenever I ran more than 10 miles. Now I prefer wearing Injinji socks all the time with my Vibrams. The best part is that socks keep them from stinking.
Did a comparison of the V-Trails and 2.0 today. Didn't include the Alphas. Maybe in another video. Essentially, the V-Alphas are decent on trails but don't have as protective of soles. They're great for all around, but I think either V-Trails are better for legit trail running.
Great video! I think most running injuries can be prevented by training in barefoot shoes- it just takes some time to get used to them (for western people)- just as you described it. It would be bad for the business of the orthopedicians, though. Reading "Born to run" was very motivating for me, too- however, I never got into ultra-running. Half-marathons are enough for me ;) I also bought V-Runs recently, I also had the feeling that they had long toes and were lose fitting- so it is not just my feet. I have to use them with thick socks.
I'm running on FiveFingers for 2 years now. Did 2000 km on my V-Runs, only reason for changing them to a new pair was because I wanted to try one size smaller (45 to 44). Also own 2 pair of V-Trails 2.0. They are the other way round when it comes to size. Started with 44 and now changed to 45. V-Runs on the road, V-Trails for offroad and (hopefully soon) for OCR.
Been wearing Xeros and Vivobarefoot shoes and have my first Vibram Five finger shoes coming in a couple days going with Train 2.0 model. Not a runner but my new job the company runs a couple 5K a year and have a marathon in January(I live in south Texas along the border). Been doing Graham Tuttles Ready to Run the past 3 weeks and plan to do some run/walk transitions to start off with due to my lack experience of running for a few years. Where in Henry County Iowa were you from? I grew up in Wayland!
@RevRunRegan WOW, thank you for responding so fast!! I thought it was a long shot that you would reply (considering this video is from 3 years ago). AWESOME, my V-runs are on their last mile; I am looking forward to trying the KSO EVO.
@@RevRunRegan KMD Sport was my favorite. But people are saying the 2.0 isn't the same. 😭 Do you have any recommendations for a model that fits similar to KMD? I hate laces!
@@mildtotemperate unfortunately no. I went to the V-Train and V-Train 2.0 and they weren't as good as the KMD. I wish sometimes they'd quit updating models and stick with the ones that are great. They should never stop producing KMD Sport or V-Trails.
The VFF are the best shoes I've ever worn. They have done more to correct my problem feet than any doctors or expensive shoes and orthotics. My comment is this: the best runners in the world heel strike. When running in barefoot shoes you should still heel strike but you should do it lightly and skillfully. Hitting fore-foot first is a fad and will cause bodily damage over time. That doesn't mean that there's not times where you need to strike the front of the foot first, as in mountainous trails, put in general heel strike lightly and round the foot, don't slap. That's my two cents. Excellent video thank you very much.
heelstriking is the dangerous fad. The "best" runners heelstriking is not because it's best for you but because we've engineered shoes to be able to let humans get away with doing it, and only in the last 100 or fewer years.
I'd argue the best runners don't actually heel strike at all. Track spikes are made for forefoot striking, and elite marathoners keep their strides under their shoulders rather than stretching out for heel striking. At least my experience is that striking with the mid foot keeps me from injury. But do what works for you.
@@RevRunRegan Of course sprinters run on their forefoot but I didn't think I had to mention it. By heal strike I don't mean slamming down the heal, I mean gently rolling off the heal.
Does anyone know if there is any difference in how much room you have in the big toe box if you compare v-alpha to other models? And by the way, if 43 is too big and 42 too small you could try 43 women model. If I'm not wrong they should be the same but a bit smaller. You can also see it on the size chart that they recommend bigger foot size for 43 men compared to 43 women, but 43 women still being bigger than 42 men.
How can you use that computer? I highly recommend you put the monitor at the height where the frame is, when using a computer you should be looking straight ahead to avoid neck and shoulder problems.
I am running with vibram for 6 years now
Nice video
Thanks for sharing
Hi. Great review! Nice to see another vibram crazy like me ever crazier :))) question: do you prefer running with or without socks? (Hi milege...)
Great question. My rule of thumb used to be that I would wear socks whenever I ran more than 10 miles. Now I prefer wearing Injinji socks all the time with my Vibrams. The best part is that socks keep them from stinking.
Great breakdown, thankyou
Hey thanks for making this content. You may have moved on from making VFF videos but if you ever come back I’ll be sure to check them out!
Great comparison, thank you. Would love to see comparison between v-trail 2.0 and v-alpha.

It is a little weird how different the sizing is between V-Runs and V-Trails. My V-Runs are a bit big and my V-Trail 2.0 are just barely big enough.

I hope you love your new Vibrams. I lived in Mount Pleasant for 10 years before moving to the KC area 5 years ago.
thank you!
I agree, nothing beats the KMD sports! I tried several other shoes but KMD Sport is the winner
Finding it difficult to find reliable Vibram reviews specifically for treadmill running: any opinion on KSO EVO vs. V-run for indoor joggers (
I like the more minimal shoes like the KSO Evo on the treadmill because you don't need much protection.

Yeah, I haven't tried them yet. Looking forward to getting some.

Great video thank you for doing this. Can someone please suggest a good pair for running in sandy terrain like, beaches and sand dunes? Thank you!
I used V-Alpha for those runs. Advantage is they are well sealed along the ankles to prevent sand from entering.

Hey, at least I'm a real pastor. 🤣
I think Whitman barefoot shoes are better and 1/3 the price
Whitin? I've never tried them.
