12:22 I think we are, or at least it feels like we are. 12:56 I really think low budget is the way to move forward, especially in light of all the huge flops that came out in 2024. Low budgets with characters you give a shit about with an engaging plot and cool music.
my 2024 game is probably tears of the kingdom.it came out, i went crazy with it for like 3 weeks, than i had a baby. so i knew u had to put it down. i played it 6 months ago for a few hours and stopped again. but ive put probably another 100 hours in just the past month. having a year and a half old child who weve found out is autistic, after having many hurdles has been one of the most stressfuly, heartbreaking, grey hair inducing etc kind of event in my life. kids 20 months old, isnt walking. doesnt sleep through the night at all....its been the most taxing and trying thing and its just the start, but i have my fingers crossed that things will even out over time, at least thats my hope. i dont watch tv and havent since my cable went out in like 09,but i do watch the occasional special here and there. so youtube and my switch are the main go to's. its still been a good year for many things, im just hoping things could return to a more balaced reasonable trend, cuz when it comes to movies, books, games, music, shows etc, the remasters/remakes/demakes/reimaginings/retellings/sequels/prequels/pre prequels/ resurerections etc are just killing/have killed alot of great franchises, where they dont hit the mark, and the franchise goes back on the shelf for a good dozen years before trying again, as they go too big, (always) looking for a big hit, and they go too ambitious with time and money, and if it flops, execs go "yea not much market interest...." or they go so vanilla and bland without trying anything, that you basically get starfox 64 out of certain franchises (including starfox... :)
Yeah I can see that since most everyone was from Sony but still being technically a MCU cannon as much as it can, being successful and actually having anything with Spider-man, especially all 3 lol is pretty much Kryptonite to Sony. I understand if that's the reason and you did actually enjoy that. That was the last movie I saw in theaters. :)
I definitely think that’s the case for a lot of people, myself included. Movies used to represent something so much more for me. But, I’m hopeful they’ll find their footing again.
What I found interesting The Penguin is that they didn't try to subvert the audience and make Oz into a morally ambiguous character. He is a slimey piece of shit throughout the whole season, only ever doing good as a means to an end to achieve his goals.
Yes, and furthermore, this doesn’t mean he’s not complex! He’s still multidimensional and interesting and even garners sympathy sometimes. But indeed, this doesn’t mean he’s morally ambiguous.
Ive been saying we need an optimistic movie trend, the market demands it, but we live in a time when the business model is tax write offs and subsidized nepo baby vanity projects. What the audience wants has little influence on what studios make.
I watched and played so little stuff actually released in 2024. I feel like I'm turning into my mother, but instead of only consuming daytime talk shows and soap operas, I'm just watching Red Cow, Dancing With Ghosts, Red Letter Media, Papa Meat, etc. :P Top 5 things I consumed in 2024 I guess: 1000xResist: weird Chinese Canadian animey visual novel walking simulator game. AMAZING visuals, weird ass story. But I dug the fuck out of it. Balatro: gambling but you only lose $12 once! Yay! Oh god help me i'm addicted Deadpool & Wolverine: ....yeah. Member berries got me good. X-Men '97: again. member berries. Tub Ring - First And Last Men: one of my favorite bands from my childhood randomly dropping a new album this year was certainly a surprise and I loved it!
Deadpool & Wolverine was just so much fun. Im trying to think about my top. I think All of us strangers has to be in there. As does Kneecap. Great clip as always guys 😊 starting 2025 off right!
The level of comedic genius Trey and Matt have kept up for all these years is extraordinary. Simpsons died a long time ago and McFarlane's stuff is ok but not close to South Park
I didn't watch a single film released in 2024 in 2024. That's the first time that's happened maybe ever for me, none of the films in the art house world this year intrested me (Anora 🙄) and I haven't watched a Star wars or Marvel film in years, there's not even any good television because Severance doesn't come back until a few weeks from now. Maybe I'll check out the penguin but man 2024 is the year of Hollywood and media industry taking absolutely no risks.
Love all your videos I watch you all the time. I'm a survivor of Mount Cashel in St. John's Newfoundland Canada. There's a few of us, my friends watch too. It would mean the world if you would give us a shout out. We love your channel!! much love. Your jokes help us past things and we all love you
Frankie, can you please make a top 50 or something must watch movie list? You say nothing beats a movie I wanna know which ones you think are the best for someone who wants to be a movie guy to watch.
Well that's a fun idea - the problem is, while I'm a movie lover and a filmmaker, I don't really consider myself any kind of taste maker or authority on what people "should" watch. I really just have my own taste. I made a list a few years back if you're interested in seeing that: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-_SVSBoPcT9o6LuAHM5WMA-_96H4tM93-gp5cdsd5eE/edit?usp=sharing
Can't believe Frankie missed his opportunity to put Joker 2 in the #1 slot smdh
To feel like we're heading to a media renaissance is very, very optimistic lol
Neither one of you picked the glitch gremlin episode???
AI Man for president
Had to make room for My Horse Prince.
* Screwattack's voice * NUMBER 5!
Just signed up to the patreon! Love the mix of having both you guys (I adore trey parker but am also super interested in video games 😅)

Agreed!
Ultra dad vibes with these picks lol
Wishing everyone a blessed new year 🧸✨️🙏🌠
My personal favorite movies of the year were:
1.) I Saw the TV Glow
2.) Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
3.) Anora
4.) Nosferatu
5.) Sing Sing
Superman’s creation was steeped in politics.
Nice shirt EJ!!
Bluey: He Needed The Money

AKtuallY the Madonna song in deadpool/wolverine is Like a Prayer, not Call my name 😅
red cow? More like wrong cow! Lol❤
SummoningSalt is considering making VHS copies of his top speedrunning documentaries, are you a fan and/or familiar with his content?
Yeah I'm a fan! Our VHS guy reached out to him.
@@RedCowArcade The Tetris one is my favorite, but the Mike Tyson one where he reveals himself to be a major player is I think his best work.
Salt is a great guy

I used to love watching movies, but they’ve been so bad for so long that I very rarely bother anymore
I definitely think that’s the case for a lot of people, myself included. Movies used to represent something so much more for me. But, I’m hopeful they’ll find their footing again.
3 Body Problem was solid.
What I found interesting The Penguin is that they didn't try to subvert the audience and make Oz into a morally ambiguous character. He is a slimey piece of shit throughout the whole season, only ever doing good as a means to an end to achieve his goals.

@@RedCowArcade Each episode I was at the edge of my seat wondering "how the hell is he going to talk his way out of this?" 😆
Surely No Way Home was a rare bright spot in the MCU between Endgame and Deadpool and Wolverine for you if not for Tobey's Spidey at least lol?
Yes, fair, though...it's almost kind of a Sony movie isn't it?
11:53 this is how I mostly feel about the Zelda games on the Switch.

If you read this Frankie, did you see “The Substance?”
I did not
@ Best film of the year for me. I need a surrealist masterwork in my cinema diet every year and this satisfied that. 😇
That's #1 on my list for the year along with Terrifier 3, Squid Game 2, Sonic 3 and OSW's Collab with Redcow
The Bikeriders was the best movie of 2024.
Can't wait to see where you ranked The Acolyte
Regards from Serbia. Cool picks.
Deadpool & Wolverine was just so much fun. Im trying to think about my top. I think All of us strangers has to be in there. As does Kneecap.
Great clip as always guys 😊 starting 2025 off right!
The Righteous Gemstones is great ! Love that show, what a great ensemble.
everything coffee and cults ever made

Cmon, both multiverse of madness and no way home were excellent too!😊
My #1 is the incredible #2 I took on Christmas day it was amazing and almost made me faint
3 Body Problem is terrible EJ come on man

thank you for not mentioning elden ring most of the year
