Just finished this book! Being a spiritual person myself, I was apprehensive about starting this one. But it exceeded my expectations and was reverentially respectful of the character of Jesus. Beyond that, I just loved Ana, her dreams, and her story. Thanks for this book and excellent interview!

Beyond thrilled to hear this interview, Sue Monk Kidd, a gracious and true artist. Bless you for bringing the voices of the disinherited to life in honor and in love. This resonates with me so much, may it embolden all brothers and sisters to do the same.. lift up our voice for one another.

Sue Monk Kidd is so generous in her writing and speaking! And so very brave! Thank you for posting this video!
According to the scholar Neil Douglas-Klotz, the line from the Lord's prayer commonly known as "Give us this day our daily bread," and be translated from Aramaic version of the Lord's Prayer as "Give us what we need each day in bread and insight." I feel Sue Monk Kidd somehow nourished my insight, wonderfully, by giving me a chance to read the amazing The Book of Longings.

Whoops, I'm sorry! I meant to say "can be translated from the Aramaic..." in my comment above. Not "and be translated from the Aramaic..."

I'm pretty new to Sue's work, I'm 29 and read this as my first of hers. I'm currently reading the Mermaid Chair and I'm slowly falling in LOVE with her books!

Reading this novel reminded me of my first New Testament course in college (60 years ago) and the Text Book by Connick, "Jesus, the Man, the Mission, and the Message"

Sue Monk Kidd is just beautiful. I finished The Book of Longings 6 months ago and I still think about it. Will be taking it off my bookshelf and re-reading very soon.

Maybe an Ana inspired Jesus to change his mind in his dealings with the Canaanite woman (Matthew 15:21-28)?? Hmmm

Promoting the rebellion which is feminism and the glorification of humankind as comprised of sinless, divinity at the core each person. This is in direct contradiction to the truth of scripture. Demonic.

sure it's fiction but still it spreads some rather blasphemous and very unbiblical heresies which people who are not grounded in their faith will happily devour and be lead astray. No, Jesus was not just human, he IS God,
No, Jesus was never married, When Jesus presents his family in he Bible he says "here's my mother and my brothers, never ever mentions a girlfriend or a wife. No, it's not ok for christians to worship Sophia, nor to worship themselves or their own longings like Anna does. Incantations are not biblical, but rather demonic. The product of this book is just misguided feminists and narcissistic women that forget the "it's fiction" part and actually believe heresies and feel empowered in themselves when in reality the Bible teaches us to deny ourselves. this is just heretical progressive christianity which just leads people to hell that's all.

Please practice the teachings of Jesus Christ and get down off of your self-righteous soapbox of judgment. You are not God and therefore cannot possibly know who is going to hell or heaven. I dare say you have not invested as much time as this author has in historical research of the time of Jesus. May you live in peacefulness.
