Took me a while to get into Fallout 76 but I’m glad I waited till now cuz I can play at 60fps with the series x on a private server. The places in this game are sprawling, Bethesda gets a lot of hate for 76 but the world is beautiful and it’s hard to imagine all the work that went into the lore and level of detail this game has.
Those last holotapes dont sound like it was after the bombs, they just talk about strikers and stuff, who would be striking after the worlds ended? Although it makes sense that it did run after the bombs as he put the formula in the furnace as the bombs were dropping, its quite unclear about the actual happenings of the time

my question is who would keep showing up to work at a steel mill AFTER the nukes dropped? my paycheck is the least of my concern at that point so why did it keep functioning

If you’re starting a new, just go for grinding your way up to level 25, powerful enough to dish and take damage, then complete the main quest, it should level you up to 50, then if you wanna play alone, just explore locations, one by one, uncover the story of the wasteland, personally I fell for it due to the random NpC events that take place.
