- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the all new 2012 Volkswagen Passat SEL TDI. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
The 2012 Passat Design still looks new in 2018... Love me 2012 SE.
How reliable has your car been? Thank you
i was going to say that lmao
I was guessing 2011
Just got a 2013 Passat TDI SEL a few months ago on a CPO from a VW dealer. Awesome car. Even after the diesel fix it still gets great fuel economy compared to my 1.8T A4 B6. Plus with the 2 year unlimited millage bumper to bumper warranty with the additional emissions warranty I’m very satisfied with this car.
Volkswagen passat is one of my favourite cars. Beatiful design....
Test drove one that was nearly identical. The one I drove was a manual (the Canadian version comes with a manual on every trim), and it was definitely the nicest car that I have ever driven. Couldn't even tell that it's a diesel! It drove and handled really well for a car it's size. I was really impressed with the rear seat leg room and trunk size. I'm glad that VW kept the manuals available on all trim levels
I'm a big guy, 6'2", and test drove one a couple months ago. Tons of room in the back seat even after I'd adjusted the driver's seat for my height. The salesman encouraged me to put it in sport mode and punch it, chirping the tires at about 30mph.
My Dad has a 2012 TDI SEL all blacked out and because of the engine problems has recieved over $40,000 for repairs and what not, and they also have replaced his entire engine, so it really technically only has 20k miles on it. My Dad is giving it to me in a couple of months and I absolutely love it and can’t wait
My new favorite sedan! I love how Volkswagen makes such nice and quality products and then include the part of an economy car by having an optional diesel. Saved to my favorites, beautiful new sedan from Volkswagen! Saved to my favorites. Great vid as always Kyle!
You can just tell this car was really well built..
I've always been wondering that why do Americas not to choose project xenon headlamps.. It is beautiful, it is safer than the others, it is brighter than the others and it looks fantastic.. Here in Turkey, every 4 of 1 Renault car have Bi-Xenon headlamps (after 2004)
merhaba! ben bunu hiç bilemedim. Bu yorum için teşekkürler 😊
Cool car.
The interior is amazing! I love beige seats with wooden console! And this analogic clock in the middle is great!
This dude totally sold me on this car. Was about to go for the Ford f150 but my wife walked in on me watching this video and said this car is what I should be getting. Really want a truck but considering the price point & features not to mention the awsome mpg... I'm seriously feeling this car.
40+ highway MPG, 800-mile cruising range, and it drives really well. What a fine car.
What I love is that the estimated range of the Passat TDI.
I love the Passat!
The Fender auto system is 400 watts and something I love! Just be careful not to rub the alloy rims against anything because they will take a bite out of the rim due to the low profile 235/45 18 tires.
The only thing I do miss, is there isn't a back-up camera, but the 2014 SEL has them covered.
John and Helen Taylor few days ago traveled 2617km (1626mi) in one tank (18.5gal). They started their trip at Houston, TX, traveled through 9 states and ended at Sterling, VA, achieving an average of 2.79l/100km (84MPG) in their new VW Passat TDI (6spd manual). This set the new world record of fuel efficiency.
I'm not surprised to see people achieving such good numbers in small cars. But the Passat is effin huge!
SOLD!
I know its a year later, but thank you for this video. I am currently looking for a TDI and needed more info on it before going to a dealership.
Make that 9 years...
I do like the two ton interior of these cars. Most people say the styling is bland but too me its timeless, conservative. But, you wont get tired of it after owning it for a couple years. Even some of the older vws still look pretty decent by today's standards.
1:38 It also has push button ignition. Just put your foot on the break, hit the button to start.
Easy to learn Kyle!
5:56 "They're also heated"..the way you said that made me die laughing.
5:56
Vw are always full of power the best in my mind
He deserves every single penny if you ask me..
Getting mine Saturday!! Last year made TDI 2015 and I’m finally getting one!! Also just for a 2021 Tiguan that orange burnt color soooo nice!!
Rear end of this one looks so much better than the euro version tbh. Doesn't look like such an old mans car but both are great.
You do a really good review. I've seen other people trying to copy your videos, but your ones are the original and the best. Keep it up.
I have a 2004 Passat, I love it, it is so high tech, I see so many similarities even in this new model. I figured out how to turn on my fog lights because of this vid, derp.
The dsg transmision is awesome.. I went for a drive with a rally driver on a track with a golf gti and it shifts like a dream..
In Germany we call all the Passats ''Bosspassats'' because of their excellent reputation :D
I love VW and the Passat :)
Well, this is definitely not your father's tired, old Passat! There's just so much to like about this vehicle, I'm simply awed by the sweet, rarely accomplished combination of luxurious comfort, impeccable, elegant aesthetics with an eye on economical operation.
I can very well envisioned this car as the favorite company executive car, in the near future in NA.
Thumbs up for a 2013 Volkswagen SEL Premium TDI Video!
Don't watch the videos if it bugs you that much. He gives some of the most thorough walk-arounds on UA-cam. Take it or leave it.
I've said this before, and you should really read this Kyle. The sport mode doesn't give the appearance that the car is shifting like a manual. With a manual car, you can shift at any rpm range that you want. The sport mode does what it's called: makes the shifts more sporty - aka holds gears longer to accelerate faster, and downshift early so that there is no down shift lag when you want to accelerate.
I am extremely impressed with this redesign. The diesel is ultra quiet and ultra fuel efficient. Very nice interior and the Fender audio system is really impressive. All new cars should come with HD radio like VW. I can't wait to go and test drive one of these.
Beautiful car. I built the exact same model on VW's site and the price is ~29k, which is extremely low for such a nice car :)
Thanks for the vid. I've been looking at a few cars to buy and used your videos when I couldn't compare side by side at the dealers. This vid here helped me make my decision on the passat tdi. Ordered it today. Thanks for the excellent work.
The new Passat is a VW Camry. "ve had mine since february. It's a 100% different experience than my 03 Passat W8 wagon. it rides and drives 100% differently and feels totally different, but I enjoy it. I love the TDI engine and mileage. I've yet to get less than 750 miles per tank (17.+ gallons). The ride is very different, typically firm, my not in a typical german VW way...It's no S4 quattro, but the TDI power is hands down better suited to most american drving than a gasoline motor.
VW Passat was most beautiful car have i ever seen.Sorry for my english.
The sensible side of me REALLY wants one of these. They're pretty nice!
I like this Car it's called Volkswagen Passat👍🚘😎👫👭🇩🇪
My mom just got one of these. Its a fantastic car.
My parents have the 08 model and I think the passat is a fantasic car alround
This car...... Is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
I'm really impressed as an european how the Americans accepted to "downsize" their lifestyle importing diesel cars, thinking for e.g. at the Fiat 500 1.3 mJet... Starting think about consumption and so on... Quiet impressive... Btw was a great review... Great job! Greetings from Italy
That is a nice looking car. Modern but not too ugly like just about everything else on the road.
It's got a nicely finished and roomy interior and very nice convenience features such as smart key access with remote engine start, electric trunk lid opening, fully automatic electric windows and dual zone climate control. It's got a good safety rating as well and the choice of a diesel, instead of an useless hybrid version. I really like it. The Passat may not be the most reliable midsize car, but sure is the nicest.
I have a passat tdi 1998, and it is so comfortable and soft shock absorbers that is disagreeable when one turns dry.
It is a small defect I repproche has this car, it seems to drive these big car in gta 4 :)
I am American and I only buy manual transmission cars (except for my wife). I agree that that to truly feel that connection to the car and the road you need a manual transmission. I was seriously considering the passat tdi mt and the other day I drove a Passat tdi 6sp mt and was so disappointed in the steering feel - or lack of. It was way to easy and light. I drove the jetta - and was much more impressed - lots of road/steering feel. Passat prob better on freeway, but didn't get a chance.
My dad just bought this car but the variant version it AMAZING!!!
An excellent review of the Passat. I am planning to buy one in 2014 and I just stumbled on this video. Nice job. All the bases covered.
I believe the DSG is the only automatic transmission available for the TDI and V6 Passat. If you have a V6 or TDI with an auto, it's a DSG trans. If you have the 5 cylinder, I think you only get the simple 6 speed automatic (Not the DSG). I hope I have that right.
Indeed you do have that right. Before VW sacrificed the TDI and the VR6 from the Passat, unless it had either of those engines, you got a 6 speed Aisin torque converted automatic. The barebone base model came with a 6 speed manual as standard (until 2015 I believe) which are rare and I’ve never seen one in person. My 2015 has that transmission paired to the 1.8T. Eventually, VW got rid of the 1.8T and only offered the 2.0T before killing the Passat completely for the U.S. Frankly the SEL premium was the one to go for. Fully loaded it was a nice car. I have a Limited with leatherette. I can personally say the leather seats are a lot better, along with the interior trim and options, also considering I don’t have the MFI. I have a mid 2000’s era center display and I can’t personalize options like the more advanced MFI. I might be able to get around that by using VCDS but that means being careful so I don’t screw anything up. 😂
I like this Car. Volkswagen did a nice job designing it.
I really like this version of the passat a lot, volkswagen's done good
Thanks for the review... would love to have the "US-Passat" in Germany as well... it's bigger than the normal European Passat.... but some people claim it would be too big for roads in the city for example -.- I can't understand them .... If they can't handle a bigger car, they simply should buy a smaller one -.-
I love this new VW Passat! The front headlights remind me of the 08-12 Honda Accord headlights.
Also I think it's cool how Volkswagen gives u the choice of push button start and also manually starting the car with an actual key. Most of these auto companies doesn't give u that option.
For example, a 2010 Nissan Altima only has the push button. Is there a way to manually start the car if it were to stop working??? Does anybody know?
only in the sel model , it`s a wonderful car i even get 46 mpg at 75 mile/ hr go for it i did buy mine in So California from Galpin fodr there was an Egyptian sales man very knowledgeable who helped me so we did buy 2 cars,. Ramsey
I used to own a 2007 Passat "Komfort" 2.0T. I felt like driving it was an extension of me. The transmission and paddle shifters always work the way you want it to, by simply engaging the paddles at any driving time...you don't even need to put the shifter in any gear- D, S, or manual mode can all be operated by the manual. So, you're cruising, see a slow guy, tap the - paddle and blip the throttle to match speed, and when you want...HAMMER IT DOWN! I miss my Passat...got hit by a POS Camry:(
I like this car for some reason...
Love the color black I have the 2013 Passat SE 3.6 it rides very smooth I test drove a Camry first but I had a bad feeling so I was bit unsure so when I seen the Passat before I made a deal for the Camry I took the Passat for a test drive and I was sold.
passat... no doubt about it. I drive a passat from 2000 and never let me down. the only major issue that i ve had is that the ABS pump which fail this year... kinda aspected after 13 years...
The new Passat looks pretty cool!
I test drove one and was impressed. It was quick!
I bought one of these a little over a year ago. Luckily I live in Texas, so I was able to just delete all the emissions bullshit. That brought my MPG up to 57. It’s funny how removing the equipment designed to lower pollution actually resulted in less fossil fuel consumption 😂
Great choice of music at 7:40 and 8:40. very apropriate for the target market (children of the 80's).
I have a '13 arriving in Calgary in mid Sept (2 or 3 weeks) and am PUMPED. I don't know anyone who has one, but my drive is around 180km per day, so I don't mind being the guinea pig. My kids hated test driving until we came to it and the vast back seats were a hit.
Sucks that the spare is a doughnut and not a full size tire. But that's not a big deal compared to the many positives.
I really like this car it has a lot of class and great mpg. But what cheapens it for me is the fact that there is a PROP ROD for the hood, I can forgive that until I saw the back seat had No power outlets or vents for rear passengers. The lines and body of the car A+
I want this car SO badly!!
This is a nice car love the Volkswagen/Audi interiors.
Moar diesels please!!
I love how it sounds, I like how it pulls. Lots of fun and high MPGs
I wish there was air vents in the back seat, as well as a 12 V outlet and heated rear seats
Just bought a 2012 Passat TDI , hope it does me good like I think it will
I'm enjoying my mine, got it June 2012.
Thanks Kyle! I've been searching for a review for forever now.
That's part of the turn signal indicator that is placed there so that the driver doesn't forget his turn signal on.
The Taylor couple drove from Houston to Sterling (1626.1 miles) in a stock North American spec Passat TDI
The new passat is Beautiful!
Yeah really passat tdis are hard to find but jetta tdis are everywhere.
yeah i dont know why this doesn't come with xenon. beautiful car. just came back from my local VW dealership.
Interior in american version of VW Passat looks like in czech Skoda Superb.
Best timing ever. Just drove this car today and considering buying one. Love it!
@Alayye I liked it, plenty of grunt. It won't break any speed records but it will squirt in and out of traffic with *no* trouble whatsoever. Contrary to a gas 4 cylinder, the power is at the lower revs.
@7477238 The last generation of the Golf (including GTI), Jetta, and Passat from around 2006-2009 were definitely higher quality than the newer models.
The U.S. needs more super efficient diesels like this soon they will become mainstream.
Wow the american passats are very different in the interior to the one's we have here in ireland.
@ddnn3 Yes, but only in certain cars, not all do that. Some skip gears and go into the highers gears in which disregarding lower gears.
Solid reviews all around! Thanks for all of the videos!
this car is beau-ti-ful
he has the best reviews.
Audi parts cost no more than VW parts, BUT choose your dealer carefully. The Audi and VW dealers near me have very different labor rates. Both Audi dealers are Porche/ Audi, the VW is paired with subaru across the parking lot. I have and still own multiple examples of both brands and some VW's differ little from their Audi counterpart Jetta/Golf/A3 and VW's are quite a bit different than comparably sized Audis. The A4 and Passat are now different cars and share fewer parts than in the past.
Go with the VW no doubt, picking mine up in 3 days
I bought 2016 my volkswagen car still the best
@TheEryk03 yes, but european Passat B7 is just recycled B6 in therms of styling. This one looks better, has nicer interior and it's better equiped.
I wanted to be offended that VW gave us our own Passat and even build it in the US, but I really like this damn thing. The new Jetta not so much...wish they would make a wagon version of the North American Passat. TDI makes my mouth water.
Gets the same MPG as a hybrid gasoline car, has MUCH more power, and will last much longer. I have over 240k miles on my TDI VW Golf. I'm getting 48mpg, more than the EPA estimations, and more than a brand new 2012 gasoline hybrid. Just regular oil changes. that's it.
Excellent review. This is a great car packed with too many features. I need to get one. Like one reviewer mentioned, I was wondering about how to find diesel gas stations since not all gas stations carry diesel fuel. I saw another video about the passat navigation where there is an option to search for diesel gas stations. If so, then it is wonderful.
@MercedesF700 236 ft lb. Its a diesel though so the engines are designed to have a bunch of low end torque. Wait for the Sky Active Diesel Mazda 3. Its supposed to have 300 some ft lb (in a freaking economy car)
wth the interior looks better than the european version
Nice video, driving it is even better.
Just upgraded from a 2005 F150 to a 2012 passat tdi. Only has 55k miles.
I love my 13 tdi SEL premium!
@EduWestCoastRap
ya but its a diese here, l they're not designed to be revved to high. Look at most of the durmax's and power strokes...their max they go to 5000rpm with a redline of 4k
I'm not sure about in the US but over here in the UK I think they come included on the top spec models
